Later, I'd like to check out what's down in that cavern. Perhaps we need to seal it up somehow so more of these monstrosities can't come through and terrorize Phandalin. I wonder if there's a larger cave system down there. After we've dealt with that wizard, of course.
She thinks back on some of the secrets that been projected out by the nothic, but then shakes her head, unable to make sense of them yet.
No, can't think too deeply on those yet, first we get to that wizard.
She gets ready to head down the small passageway, if her teammates are also ready.
Zeke finishes his brief search and then takes the lead, plunging down the small hallway after the bugbear, the redbrand and the wizard - ready to strike down anyone he comes across.
Arvel can tell that his spell still grips the bugbear's mind, but he cannot see his target to exert his enhanced influence over the creature.
Zeke has trouble finding his hatchets, and recalls launching them at the nothic underneath the bridge, at least one clanging down into the darkness below. (This is what I recall, and checking back in the thread it seems to hold up, but I could be wrong about how many you threw, etc.)
Ethan doesn't see too many valuables left around the cavern as the nothics, bugbears, etc. weren't well adorned with valuable armor, weapons, magic items and the like. By far the most notable and unique item observed is the thick chain tangled around the rear legs of the behir as it gives off a faint blue glow. As Ethan surveys the room the one other thing that catches his eye is a glint of light twinkling off of a shiny platinum coin on the floor next to the dead nothic near the smaller room full of supply crates.
As Krikket and then Zeke and others try to take the lead down the narrower cave passageway the Glasstaff and others fled down a Wall of Sand erupts out of nowhere, the rapidly swirling sand cloud blocking all vision down the hall and greatly impeding movement. A panicked Glasstaff calls out "how?" "How did you defeat the monster from the depths? It should have finished you if my nothics could not! He will surely kill me. There is no escape from the Spider and his webs!"
Zeke pushes forward through the wall of sand - using his long legs and bounding stride to close the gap towards the wizard's voice. With no hatchets left, the barbarian drives on, determined to get up close and personal with the Wizard who has put his friends in danger.
Hex: Def threw all 4 hatchets, lost at least 2 and thnk the other 2 are on the other side of the crevasse. Was mostly RP and hope that a bugbear had a dagger or two laying around.
Zeke will use his full move of 40ft and then dash if need be to push through the wall of sand.
The swirling sand suddenly stops and falls harmlessly to the floor over much of the length of the hallway before disappearing altogether in another blink.
The Glasstaff cries "no, wait, wait!" "We can negotiate!"
(Oh ok, yeah, definitely 2 hatchets left to retrieve then.)
Zeke finds it to be slow going pushing through the sand, but suddenly it drops and he is sprinting again. He catches a glimpse of the Glasstaff peak out from the end of the hallway and to the right and quickly pull back, fleeing from Zeke. When Zeke and Krikket reach the end of the hall they see the doorway to the right blocked by a large, thick spiderweb. Beyond they can see the Glasstaff with his palms splayed out in front of him begging "wait, wait, wait, we can talk!"
(Zeke and Krikket notice an open doorway to their left at the end of the hall as well.)
Tarja follows Zeke down the hallway. When she gets a clear view of the room, she casts Entangle, hoping to make it even harder for Glasstaff to get away.
(Is glasstaff talking to us when he's asking to negotiate, or does it look like he's talking to someone else, like in the room across the hall? If I can tell.)
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Ethan sees the web and Glasstaff looking directly at Zeke, pleading. To his left in the opposite direction the wizard fled Ethan sees a large room with a large dining table, scattered chairs and supplies stacked against the walls. He also sees another doorway going out the far side of this room.
Tarja sees that the Glasstaff is indeed focused on the party.
The Glasstaff tugs his arms away from the grasping vines while pleading with the party to talk. Despite not being completely entangled, he is surrounded by grasping vines that will slow any further escape.
(I don't want to diminish the effectiveness of the Web long term by allowing one die roll to make it entirely disappear but also did a poor job of describing the use of a spell, it's thickness and thus its markings on the map. Apologies. The spell itself does not really address the web being attacked and any AC and HP but I found some info from the DMG on webs in general to address it. I thus rolled a few extra dice for Zeke since he gets two attacks and damage for each, and ultimately he slashed a line through anyhow, so we're all good!)
Zeke slashes a corridor through at least ten feet of web and begins to push through Tarja's grasping vines in his pursuit of the caster in red. Fearful for his life the Glasstaff replies "fine, have it your way." "The Spider will surely treat us both to similar fates!" The wizard clutches his red cloak and suddenly disappears in a cloud of smoke, leaving the smell of brimstone in the air.
Fae would feel herself finally exhale a breath she had not realized she had been holding when Ethan would thank her. She’d blink herself out of her focus, her image ceasing to glitch and finally stabilize. “Of course.” Was her simple response to his gratitude. The wizard was trying to fight her divination from flashing the image of the outcome. It was still a very real truth... Just not their reality... today. She’d reach for her head with a hint of a pained expression, stopping short when Arvel would remind them of Glasstaff and the Redbrand. She had lost sight of Harrick and he was armed with her daggers... Shit. Zeke gave her one job...
Fae’s eyes would follow Tarja’s spectral pig root around. It would be impossible not to crack even the slightest of smiles watching it mend their companions wounds. The wizard would finally feel her heart begin to calm as they took a short moment to take a breath. And during the short investigation, she’d quietly follow along and offer her mage hand to retrieve Zeke’s hatchet(s) should it be a possibility.
Not wanting to clutter or jam up the hallway, Fae would keep back and out of the way to allow the others to press forward. As everyone corners Glasstaff and presses him, she’d raise her hand with a spell in mind, but unable to see or even attempt to administer it from where she stood, her hand would return to her side, awaiting the outcome.
The wizard would exhale a barely audible sigh when the scent of brimstone would hit her nose. He could be anywhere now.
Tarja takes a quick look at the fallen beast.

"Fly, Krikket, fly!"
Arvel follows his companions, holding one hand to his temple trying to see if he can sense if his charm magic is still working...

Once the wall of sand drops, Ethan runs to catch up with Zeke, giving Elra a smile and a thumbs up as he runs passed.
Catching up, Ethan stands beside Zeke, looking around for trouble, his Eldritch Canon scanning around at the same time.
