Lia, Kysdiane and Avia all see strange scoring patterns along the walls, they all deduce they may be tool marks. More than that, Avia and Kysdiane are noticing that the tool mark patterns are too precise for anything alive to have made them. It's as if a large machine had bored the mine.
Avia then brings up the hatch on the forge, expressing curiosity. Renata also is interested about what's behind the hatch.
Kysdiane nods, although he keeps his distance as the rest of the group investigates the hatch. No point in getting everyone blown up by a trap if there is one, he thinks to himself.

“The mark of a successful DM is when you have caused more player deaths with doors than dragons, demons, or devils.”
While the group is in agreement and go over to the forge to investigate what the Avia's weasel is interested in. only Kysdiane stands back, out of self-preservation.
The hatch is placed vertically on the upper part of the forge. Currently, it is slightly agar, hinged from the bottom. Avis's weasel is trying to reach inside with its forelimbs but it is too large, overall, to get any further inside.
Managing to find some footholds, Renata, with some help from Avia, takes a look inside the hatch. The hatch's hinges seem to be very rusted, as when she tries to open it to take a look, it only opens up a little bit more. But she is able to see the interior behind it more easily, but still isn't able to reach very far inside. Inside, there is evidence of an small, inactive magic circle. What purpose it had is currently unknown.
But what's more interesting is what is within the circle. It looks to be a piece of formed metal, similar to what Lia had found scattered on the floor.
"Well that be an interestin' place. Ken we get this hatch open further?" Then, looking over at Kysdiane he adds, "If'n one o' ye burly types want tae give it a go, I'll help as much as these ole muscles will allow."
(Offering help action to anyone willing to attempt to wrench the hatch open).

Kysdiane is not the strongest humanoid by any stretch of the imagination, but he gets the sense that he probably has the most muscle around so he heads over to the hatch and attempts to wrench it open. If he notices the magic circle at the bottom of the hatch (or someone points it out to him), he takes special care to not disturb it.
Realising she probably doesn't have enough strength to open the hatch, Renata steps back and lets Kysdiane do the work. "Careful," she says to Kysdiane, "there seems to be an inactive magic circle with a piece of metal inside... I could not reach it but it seemed quite similar to the ones Lia had found."
Kysdiane and Gulgus team up to open the hatch. At first, the weathered hinged give some resistance. But, it soon gives way. With a clearer looks inside, it seems there are several other circles around the piece of metal, each of them seemingly facing it at several angles. This includes one on the inside of the hatch itself. Even though a few of Kysdiane's fingers have crossed into the circle on the hatch, nothing seems to be happening. Perhaps defense is not the purpose of these circles?
As this was happening Lia picks up one of the pieces closer to the chute and brings it over for comparison. Indeed, the two parts are of the same kind.
Gulgus strains to aid Kysdiane as much as he can and as the hatch opens further says, "That be it laddy; ye done it! I knew ye cou!" Then as he gets a clearer look inside, "Tha circle o' magix looks tae be more extensive than we first thought. Any of ye with an idea on how tae approach? I be as giddy as a clam at high tide tae get down and see what we've found!"
"Nae I dinna have such ability," Gulgus says as he reaches into his tan Bag of Tricks, "but I ken offer a furry friend tae go down and give it a once over?" As he pulls out the creature he looks around at the others to see if they can deliver upon Lia's specific request.

Kysdiane hesitates for a second before piping up in response to Lia, "I can... Although someone might be able to do it without expending as many resources." Kysdiane also takes a closer look at the circles. He has no expertise in arcane magics, if that is what these circles are. However, summoning rituals are something he is somewhat familiar with and using some divine guidance he might be able to identify them.
The group is still wary of the nature of the magic circles, try and ascertain their purpose.
Gulgus first tries to summon a creature that might be able to fit in the small chamber behind the hatch to help with analyzing them. The opposite happens, but now they have another body to defend against threats. With his orignal cards plan not in the cards at the moment, wonders if anyone can read the magic better than he could.
Kysdiane extends his magical senses out to try and ascertain if they are related to conjuration magic. But beyond that, he is unable to find out much more than that.
Renata casts a spell that is able to probe deeper into the essence of the circles. She discovers that they are all of the divination school of magic. Considering how they are all facing where the metal part is, and the fact there are other similar parts in the room; she can come to the conclusion that they are used to in conjunction with the forge to make copies of what is within the magic circles, using the materials from the mine.
