Penny looks up when Ormond speaks in Undercommon, but doesn’t say anything.

He repeats his last question and bit about the armor in undercommon assuming it may be more useful as it's a trading language.

 Hino nods, “The only other that I know of from Mawa is my mother, but she came to the village a long time ago. That phrase you used at the end... I am unfamiliar with what that means. However, that word (referring to the armor), I heard my mother mention it before.”

Ormond asks, "Could we meet with your mother, perhaps?" 

Hino nods, “Yes, but you must forgive us, she is advancing in years and does not leave our home much. I will ask that only one or two of you visit her.”

Meanwhile, Chief Kohipau is sitting next to his ‘ancestor’ and telling an extravagant story that Roland cannot catch even the foggiest idea of what he’s talking about. However! Roland freely able to enjoy the dinosaur tail appetizer!

 Hino turns to Deshi, “Ah, yes, the first weaving was created by Hipau himself. It depicts his conquering of the terrible Sebe, or serpent, that plagued our people before Hipau rose up. He deeply wounded it, but it escaped before he could finish it. Each of his children has sought to end the creature, but...” Hino looks sad, “All were slain. Each weaving depicts the chief’s hopes of what will happen the day they face the Sebe. The Great Kohipau was to face it next, but!” Hino swiftly changes to excitement, “Now that Hipau has returned, he can finally end the Sebe! At last, our village will know peace once more!”

Penny looks up at this, as if a cold shadow had just fallen on her grave.

Ormond responds to Hino, "If possible, I'd like to be one of our group to meet your mother. She likely has many insights and wisdom that would benefit our travels here."

Upon hearing about the legend of Sebe and Hipau, Ormond asks, with a near-imperceptible stutter in his voice, he asks, "Are there any images or descriptions of this... Sebe?"

Standing up and literally stepping up to the conversation, finally, Penny quickly adds to Ormond's request, "I'd like to meet her, too! And what was this about a giant snake?"

Deshi gives Penny the ol' side-eye.

Perception: 18

Deshi nods as Hino explains the story. "Truly fascinating," they say, mostly to themself. "Deshi takes it, then, that this is part of a larger creation myth to explain the division of the outer and inner worlds..." The tortle turns back to Hino. "Are there any other giant monsters in your stories, sir?"

Deshi does note on the tapestry, there is a single circle of golden thread that hangs around the woven Hipau’s neck. Kinda looks like a circle with a pattern on it?

Meanwhile, Hino considers, “No? There are many creatures that roam about in these lands, but we know how to avoid them or make peace. We are a small people, so they avoid us. But the Sebe goes out of its way to consume our people. We do not know why. As to the Mawa, we do know much of how it came to be. It has always been like this for us.”

Hino describes the Sebe as a terrible serpent. It has many head, and crawls around on stumpy little legs. It seems to be a sadistic animal that plays with its food, ripping and melting it to tiny pieces.

 The description sounds vaguely similar to the... that thing... Which is enough to shake you to your core.

Upon hearing the description of Sebe, Ormond's fists clench, but his demeanor is otherwise unchanged.

"So..." Ormond says with a pause, "while his dearest Hipau eats, could Penny and I meet with your mother? If she's available to talk, of course."

 “Yes, of course. We shall leave the great Hipau in care of the great Kohipau. Follow me.”

Deshi and Roland are left at the chief tent, meanwhile, Hino leads Penny and Ormond to a nearby area, “We keep the young and elderly to the center of the village to protect against any raids. My mother has thankfully been blessed with many years, but I warn you, she is... passionate.”

Hino opens the tent door, “Mother, I have returned and brought visitors.”

At that, an old woman, roughly in her 80s likely, steps out on a cane. She is roughly 4’6” but doesn’t seem to be hunched or anything of that sort. The way she walks more suggests an injury at some time during her life. Her eyes are squinted and focused, like little pin points. She just stands there, silently appraising you.

Penny just locks eyes with her, not exactly defiant, but not giving any ground.

As an awkward pause hangs in the air, Hino’s mother chokes up the grip on her walking stick and cane’s Penny and Ormond in the shins, “Well! Are you going to introduce yourselves or not! First visitors I’ve had from the surface in 50 years and they’ve forgotten any manners!”

“Ow, ow, ow!” Penny hops in place a bit, holding her shin. “What was that for, you old bat?!” She cusses a little in Undercommon.

 The woman plants her cane into the ground, returning in Undercommon, “You want dealings with someone, introductions are in your court.” She switches back to common, “And why are you using Tradecommon. Do I look like a foreman?”

Roland listens at the conversation about Sebe with great interest, while nodding and saying "Uhuh" and "Wow, thats really cool." and "You can't understand me, can you, buttface?". When Ormond and Penny leaves he walks up to Deshi, while gobbling on some dinosteak. "So.. this snake thingy. We gon' kill it, right?."
