Aura hesitates for just a second as the threatening figure of the troll makes its way over the hill. That's just another boost as Aura pulls Winter with a slightly stronger grip. "I'm sorry, but I still think none of us are supposed to trust her. Not now, not later. Besides, now is definitely not the time to be running around town on your own, okay?"
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Manfred will use all his movement and Dash if necessary, to catch up to Winter, Aura, and Ashtear.
Once he catches up to them, he looks at Ashtear. "Let us get this child to the keep. it is the only place where she will be safe. One swipe from that...THING and she's as good as dead."
Unsure of whether to run or fight... Unsure if those guards are real or just unfortunate but brave townfolks... "Diversion..? This must be to get everyone into the keep-the machine must be there to dose everyone. Do we kill the troll, or risk exposure in the keep to try and stop it?"
Hearing Winter's reply, "Where did she tell you your family is?"
(Journal was stowed in my holding satchel earlier after the message/prior to the troll)
"If they want everyone into the keep, we shouldn't go there, they'll likely deploy the machine there, I say go to her house, maybe where they have it?"
"We can't leave the townsfolk to face the troll alone." Dain says with a growl. "Fat lot of good we will do the town if half of em are dead..."
Seeing the truth in Dain's words and looking to the doomed guardsmen, Albanus realizes it's the truth. He glances to Winter, who is currently being held by Aura though seems to be fighting her a bit. Realizing that she must be hearing Janice makes Albanus' blood boil. He races over to Winter. "Listen. We can't help your family if you go there. We are trained to deal with bad things but if you are dead you won't be able to see them again. DO NOT go towards her voice yet, she is trying to trick you. Remember what I said before. If you try to leave, I will tie you up. I'll not lose a child...again."
IF possible, Albanus will see what the others think about getting this thing's attention and the rest hiding and waiting for it and then attacking it. He will offer up to try to get it's attention and then run back, unless there is someone else who is willing and better at that. Albanus can also project his voice super loud so he can do it from some distance.

(If the party is amicable to the plane from OOC--where we make slight distance between Winter protection and Troll combat. AND the troll is within 120ft range + 30ft of movement (I'd stay as far away as I can) Then Ashtear will do the following actions. Allowing for reasonable timing on it, due to durations and theater of the mind distances) IF the group wants to move around or do something different--i.e. charge the troll, or take winter closer. Then Ignore this post and i"ll take her action after work. Or you can Autobot Ashtear to asssume giving Guidance to the first person who has a plan of action we take).
Ashtear pulls two small orbs out, "We can't let them die, and maybe if we kill it fast enough we can mess with their plans-and folks will leave the keep. Watch Winter-we'll be distracted." Tossing a pil over to winter, which poofs briefly in a small clould, giving her a smile before moving forward loading the red pill and firing a blast at the creature-hoping the guards will understand they have support and pull back towards us.
Bonus Action: Sanctuary spell on Winter. DC 15 Wis to harm her. (Unless she harms the enemy-which.. I sorta doubt she'll attack the troll and actually harm it). Action: Firebolt vs Troll. 15to hit 13
"Ashtear, throw me the journal now. Your little trick won't protect Winter from what I have ready unless you give me the book. NOW."
Looking at Aura and anyone else around Winter and Ashtear, he will snarl at them. "Stay back! I will release this spell if any of you take another step closer."
(Manfred will finish the spell if he feels threatened, if he senses anyone from the party approach him, or he is attacked, unless Ash gives him the book).
Albanus turns slowly at the sound of the bard's words and sneers. "No one's coming any closer bard. Why do you want the book? All the important parts are gone, as you know." Looking to the rest of the group, he says, "We know what this journal says and all its uses are spent. Do we still need it?"
"We all have our roles to play, Albanus the Black. I have no illusions about my fate. But I must play out the scene, as any good performer. Given how it is playing out though, I suppose it proves I truly am my father's son, as much as I hoped to avoid it."
Manfred is fully aware of the horror of what he is doing, but he makes no effort to dissipate the spell he has ready and waiting.
Dain, who was already aware of Manferd's acting off, would have stayed close to him. he would move to the attack at the first threatening of Winter though.
(I would say the DM needs to call for initiative, since we are going to be going into combat with this action. It will all have to play out via combat rounds, since Dain would be moving right next to Manferd when he started casting and it is a concentration effect to hold the magic of the spell. If Dain can hit him before Manferd's round comes there is a good chance manferd would lose concentration. All readied action spells, no matter if they require concentration or not, require concentration to have readied.)
Here is the data from the basic rules...
When you ready a spell, you cast it as normal but hold its energy, which you release with your reaction when the trigger occurs. To be readied, a spell must have a casting time of 1 action, and holding onto the spell's magic requires concentration. If your concentration is broken, the spell dissipates without taking effect. For example, if you are concentrating on the web spell and ready magic missile, your web spell ends, and if you take damage before you release magic missile with your reaction, your concentration might be broken.

Manfred sighs. He had hoped it wouldn't come to this, but the succubus's words "Do whatever you have to do," rang in his ears.

Dain casts magic missile at 2nd level. He targets Manfred.
Manfred will need to make 4 concentration checks, all DC 10.
he takes...
MM 1 ... 3 force.
MM 2 ... 4 force.
MM 3 ... 5 force.
MM 4 ... 3 force.
He should also get 4 saves vs charmed.
troll moves 30 ft, dashs for another 30ft, total distance from the group being about 240ft now.
Both guards attempt to throw their extra spears at the Troll.
1st- Attack: 4 Damage: 7
2nd- Attack: 16 Damage: 5
(Both miss, being a bit too far away to get a good lock onto the sprinting troll.
