"ah hah! Nipper. Aye, that you are!" Pormas greets everyone warmly but clearly feels akin (or maybe feels something lower) to Bree so directs most of his replies toward her. "So yer the sorry sods goin off into the desert huh? Not much of a place for water folk huh? Well let me show you my Vera." He waves you all aboard with a crooked grin "As flat as her namesake!" Laughing at his own cleverness he pats Boriglar on the back "Not like this one heh? No worries my friend Vera has never let me down and I've hauled 12 camels on her with the feed to go with em."
You all look over the raft. It is obviously well built but more importantly well maintained. You can see fresh reeds packed securely into joints. The deck, river mud baked by the sun, is surprisingly smooth. It is just a flat craft with the exception of the triangular shaped structure that supports a long rudder and several cleats along the edges.
He turns to Bree very seriously "I've been ordered to let you take her but you don't know the ways of the river. I could come along, for a fee. And let me tell ya. I saw what attacked us. Me and the hermits the only ones left who did. You don't want to travel the river alone!"
To Corin, Perdot says "On the river we'll be able to fish and drink, but we're headed to a desert. We should pack at least a couple skins for each of us eh?"
((is there anything at all interesting in the food stores? Any wine, or anything at all other than hardtack and water? If so, Perdot is gonna grab it. If not, no worries))
Bree will nod and caress the timbers of the raft lovingly, listening closely to the riverman's patter. "Ayup. But we'll be on the water for a few days at least. Enough time to recharge the soul, eh Wellby?" She considers the ship carefully, before turning to Boriglar. "She'll do. It won't be Vera that sends yer arse into the water, if'n ye go into the drink, I'll tell ye that."
Hearing Pormas's claims that he saw what attacked, she does her best to appear utterly disinterested. "Oh yah? I've heard a million of 'em from old salts like ye. What was this one? A nine foot tall Sahuagin? G'wan and pull the other one."
Roardaar will intentionally be late reporting to the raft by ten minutes. He makes no secret about it, in fact he is hoping that word of his tardiness gets back to Sarras. When he arrives he is unapologetic and just dumps his gear onto the raft without a word.
(Duly noted Roardaar) (Perdot, sorry, no wine :) Nothing but the basics)
Parmas scowls at Bree "I aint telling no tall tails lass. I'll show you where I hid in the mud and I aint ashamed I did!" He says pointing down river "Sure there was plenty of men but I tell you strait there was monsters among em. But the worst part was the flying things. I never did see em clear but I could hear em circling and circling until the battle was done. It's a good thing my pants was already brown from the mud if you get my meaning!""
Collecting the basics, and enough water for all for a few days in the desert, Perdot will go (with Corin I assume) to meet the others by the boat, arriving just after Parmas is talking about the monsters circling. He silently unloads the gear and listens to the rest.
Once Roardaar arrives (late) he doesn't respond to his mood, aware of how his companion can be from time to time, and simply hands him some hardtack and takes a seat next to him, gnawing on a piece of his own.
Nolla would find a spot on the raft to stow her gear, and make sure to tie it down, so it doesn't fall overboard easily. She would then sit down and play on her lyre as the others arrive.
Bree nods and makes a mental note about the creatures and especially the flying monsters. "Okay, okay, old timer. We've seen some beasties too while we've been here. I trust ye. How much will it cost for ye to join us 'til the end of the river?"
He considers Bree and the rest of party with an appraising eye "I think 750 gold is a fair price and I'll need a shield and sword. I'm not much of a fighter. My value is my knowledge. I'm more comfortable with this in my hand" He says as he pats the dagger oh his hip "But I'll need to be able to protect myself should I have to, and I'll probably have to"
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Roardaar finally speaks to scoff at Parmas, "You must be joking, 750 for a tall tale and an extra body to babysit? They haven't even paid us yet! How about this for a counter offer: you tell us what you know right now as a sign of goodwill and I will guarantee you that you won't need to protect yourself within the next, oh, say two minutes."
Pormas takes a step back from Roardaar "I'm not joking at all and your threats mean little. I can navigate the river safely. Without my help you may not even make it to the swamp" He rubs his beard. "I also doubt that the rest of the reserves would look too kindly on their guides attacking a citizen, however... I'm no stranger to haggling. How about 600?"
Seeing the negotiation underway, Perdot simply nods, stands up, and heads back to the stockpiles to grab a sword, shield, and any armor that looks like it might fit the captain. When he gets back he'll present these, and add his share of whatever the final amount agreed upon is.

Nolla would cast guidance on herself before getting up.
"Are we haggling?" Nolla asks with a grin, setting down her lyre and moving to join the conversation with the boat's captain. "600 gold seems a bit steep don't you think, since there is no way to know what sorts of danger we might face?" She gives the man a smile and nod, as if this makes complete sense. "How about 500 and you get half now and half when we get there."
Boriglar looks perplexed at his companions. “This man has skills and knowledge I don’t have and won’t pretend to know the value of. Give generously and the world will be generous back to you.” Boriglar puts down 400 gold pieces.
Corin nods at Boriglar and says: "No need to put in more than your fair share. There are six of us. That would be 100 each which I think would be fair."
Corin will add his 100 if the others agree. If not I guess Boriglar & I will split the cost.
Bree will look at the riverman long and hard before agreeing. "Ayup. On the water, its best to have every hand possible to make things go smoothly. Besides, it would be good to have someone on hand in case those beasties come back. At the worst, we can feed him to them," She adds with a throaty chuckle
She puts in her 100 coins as well, but will quietly tell Wellby to keep an eye on Pormas as much as possible, the warning from the priest about the spies of this so-called Master rumbling about in her head.
"Ha, someone who gets the value of bargaining" He says to Nolla "Aye, I'll take 500. Half and half is fine. You may be taking it back from my corpse before its all over anyway."
Perdot you find a serviceable 1h sword and shield and bring it back to the raft.
He thanks Perdot and continues "If there's anything else you want to do, or anyone you want to talk to before leaving we have a couple hours before we need to be shovin' off. If you're itchin' to get out on the river I s'pose we can leave now and take it slow until the sun starts to sink"
"A slow start will be good for us to get out sea legs and see what this river holds." Perdot says, carefully storing his gear somewhere it will stay as dry as possible.
((I'll just subtract 100g of gems now, even if we're paying half now and later. Easier to remember.))
Roardaar would much rather beat the man into submission and drag him along against his will rather than giving up a single coin from his precious hoard, but he grudgingly agrees to the arrangement in the interest of keeping the peace with his more level-headed allies.
