Feline reflexes (what little big cats possess anyways) serve Xemnez poorly, as the shaking ground eventually see him topple over, nearly dropping his axe in the process. With a growl of annoyance, he uses the shaking to roll not only back to his feet, but also to help catapult himself onto his previously chosen prey, hoping to cut down at least the one foe, before turning into a bolt of lightning that immediately slams into the other one.
If he yet had the strength left after, he'd see to carving into the other one. It's only after all of that a risk is taken to quickly survey the battlefield. 'If the foolish cleric wishes to die for the temple then let her. Our fighting here only encourages our foes to do the same. Further endangering those here regardless. So we must away'. Toc! Do you have the means prepared?' He practically demands over the link, having apparently caught at least some of Zhuti's words before even if he had not the mind to dismiss them openly.

Xemnez is tossed to his feet, but the feline warrior just as quickly rolls up, his axe blade slashing.
Zhuti witnesses an amazing thing....as the axe strikes the enemy, lightning courses through them and they collapse to the ground. Then, a bolt of lightning travels between the falling foe and the other foe....and its as if the lion warrior man travels into the bolt, down it and appears at the far end as the lightning strikes the enemy. Two more axe blows slam into the other foe who appears blind, though managing to stay on his feet. He takes the two blows, stumbling about in the shaking building.
Toc responds mentally, "Well, until just now, Nuzej has been hiding in an anti-magic sphere with the stone! Plus everyone keeps moving around...and turning into giant apes! Ok, here goes!"
Toc runs across his invisible wall of force and leaps through the air towards the middle of the room. As he pushes off, he throws himself into a graceful spin as he begins casting a spell. Thyrius, Simaal, Xemnez, and the giant ape known as ZEDGE each feel magic begin to abruptly pull at them as Toc seems to jab his finger out at each one of them...though he jabs his finger twice in Simaal's general direction.
Each of you feel a familiar twisting in your stomachs of the fabric of space distorting around you. Finally as gravity pulls Toc towards the floor, he spin has him facing the windows across the west side of the room and he seems to make a throwing motion in that direction. The world around everyone twists and bends.
A dizzying flash of a spinning vortex of color clears from your vision as you each find yourselves standing in the street about 70 feet away from the Selune's smile. It's a bit surreal, as the three story structure seems to dance and shake about in place, while the rest of the city of Waterdeep surrounding it is relatively calm. The flames don't look so bad from out here but smoke is pouring out the smashed windows and eaves. The whole structure jiggles unnaturally and is clearly on the verge of collapse. People stand about in the streets their mouths agape watching the incident, though it's clear many have taken temporary shelter behind wagons, barrels, crates, or other buildings.
You look around. Kit Kat is laying on the ground amidst you. Toc is missing.
You hear him mentally add into your minds, "Oooofff..... owe...damn. Sorry, max capacity for the spell. I'll be out in a moment."
Zhuti, standing over the now stable body of the high priestess here looks and watches as the sword wielding elf wizard leaps through the air and points at a bunch of random folks, and then flails a throw towards the window. The two cat warriors, the hovering / flying spear man, the giant ape, and Kit Kat, the serving girl, all vanish. The elf slams into the floor with a heavy thud and begins bouncing around on the shaking and heaving floor. His eyes glance over the edge of the bar and meets Zhuti's eyes, and then gives a little awkward apologetic shrug. Out loud he yells, "It'd be great if you weren't inside that sphere anymore...."
As the group gets their bearings around the outside of the building, suddenly they find themselves under attack.
Nuzej the giant ape feels magic blasts suddenly rain down on him from above....
Attack on Nuzej: 25 Damage: 8 force damage.
Attack on Nuzej: 15 Damage: 14 force damage.
Attack on Nuzej: 17 Damage: 10 force damage.
Attack on Nuzej: 15 Damage: 12 force damage. (roll a concentration check for polymorph for each hit)
For everyone outside, their eyes are drawn up into the air. Far above, floating in the air, are 2 creatures. They must be nearly 300 feet up in the air. They're too distant to make out much detail, but they are hovering there but you get the distinct impression that they are gaunt and bony. One of them has just flung magic across the 300 foot distance and hit Nuzej.
Several people scream as a huge horrible looking ape appears in the street around them. Then more scream as magic begins getting flung down into the streets. Panic ensues.
Zhuti watches as the newcomers continue to turn chaos into more chaos. She stands as the elf entreats her to act, and takes in the dozen or so assailants who are coming towards her, and she nods. Dropping the antimagic shell, she shouts out, "Hey, uglies!" to get their attention, then utters a word they can clearly hear, but will not be able to recall later. If there is a later.
Then, still brandishing her sword in one hand, and her holy symbol in the other, she gestures and there is a soft sigh, and dim twilight springs up from her, stretching out into the room.
Bonus Action: cast Divine Word for all the bad guys. Action: Channel Divinity, Twilight Sanctuary. 30ft radius of dim light, people she designates (including her) get half cover, also at the end of their turns, 1d6+17 temp hp, and removal of charm or frighten effects.
Zhuti mutters a word of power that races through the room. Zhuti looks around, expecting some impressive effect, a chorus of surprised voices, or even a collapsing bad guy. One man who is on the ground amidst the shaking claps his hands on his ears and looks around in the chaos confused....but otherwise her unleashed power seems to have no effect.
However as Zhuti looks around it appears as if none of the foes are interested in her, or in the elf even. In fact, many of them are fumbling around, still blinded, and unable to stay on their feet or in fact move much. A couple near the south of the room have managed to get to their feet and are running for the door. The one nearby turns from her and simply bolts, being careful to avoid an attack from Zhuti...but as he tries to slide across the bar and head to the door, he slams into some invisible barrier and sorta slips under it to the ground, dazed and a bit confused.
The mage flying in the air has a sour look on his face and floats upwards, heading for a hole in the tavern's high ceilings, following the smoke out into the air above.
Those outside note a figure rise up through a hole in the tavern roof. It's the flying wizard from within the tavern. He's about 75 feet in the air, and has spun around to get a sense of his surroundings, and spot the party.
Feeling dazed and confused himself, Thyrius suddenly appears outside the temple-tavern-combination-restaurant and has to spend a couple of seconds getting up. Noticing the crumbling building, he laments: "You'd think Toc would send us far into safety, not a stone's throw away from certain death..." As he speaks, the many ancestor spirits swirling around the black cat repeat the words in a delayed, whispered, ghostly-like tone.
Judging to be at about the limit range of his mundane shortbow, Thyrius takes a deep breath and tries to single out the enemy who was sniping Zedge. "I doubt this will do much, but we have to do something. This may at least confirm how far away they are from us, so prepare your long-range spells."
Knowing this to be a useless effort, Thyrius turns even before the arrow is done traveling and asks the group: "What's the plan?"
-> Bonus Action: Steady Aim to cancel disadvantage from being within the far-reach parameter of a shortbow.
-> Action: Attack with Shortbow: Attack: 15 Damage: 11
Simaal pushes Kit Kat under cover, blinks and his eyes take on a shiny sheen, drops his javelin and rushes back in the flaming building. As a bonus action he shakes his head slightly but nothing obvious happens...
Kit Kat, struggling to get to her feet and figure out what just happened to her, or why she is suddenly laying down in the street. A tarp is abruptly tossed over her by Simaal. The confused woman is left behind by Simaal as he zips across the ground at a quick speed, his feet dusting across the cobblestones as he heads back towards the Inn...the one place nobody else is running towards.
As he does so, the shaking, crumbling building suddenly ceases its grisly dance. With a settling, groaning sigh, the building goes still and sort of slumps in on itself. Amazingly the violent shaking leaves the building still standing, though chunks of roofing tile, along with chunks of shattered beams and years of accumulated dust continue to settle down from above.
Thyrius turns and casually looses an arrow into the sky. A shot that would make a competition archer envious flies up into the sky....striking one of the flying figures and getting stuck in their flowing robes they seem to be wearing, though it's unclear if it's been harmed. Nor does Thyrius seem to care.
Despite that, one of the creatures begins swooping closer to the group. (closes to within 280 feet). Then he vanishes in darkness, along with the rest of the world.
Thyrius, Xemnez, Kit-Kat, and Nuzej are swallowed by darkness. The very air around them feels warped and strange, the cobblestones beneath your feet feel distant and strange. The universe around you feels bitterly cold. The void surrounding you is filled with a cacophony of soft whispers and slurping noises that nag at your sanity. The void is warping the fabric of space. (The area is difficult terrain.)
Simaal has gotten to the smashed windows of the Inn and managed to leap up onto the outer stone window sill, giving him a good view in and out. He sees several obvious blind enemies clinging to walls and looking entirely disoriented. Though a couple that could see have rushed out the back door and come around the corner onto the street behind him. Inside he notes Toc picking himself up of the ground and moving towards Kyriani and the sword priestess.
Zhuti, the elven wizard scrambles to his feet, and jumps, sliding over the bar, and landing next to her and Kyriani. He grabs Kyriani's ankle and then looks up at Zhuti, "They only want that stone, if we get it out of here this place will be safe. Come with me..."
Mentally everyone in the group telepathic bond hear's Toc say, "I'm coming out. Don't all start spreading out, we all need to be touching for my next spell to get us out of here."
Unless Zhuti resists, the wizard speaks a word of power and the universe vanishes into a single point. And then the three of them appear out on the street.....and look around. Toc mutters, "This isn't better."
Ever since noting the attack on Nuzej, Xemnez had kept a weathered eye on the beings above if only to better read and anticipate their next move. But his mind and ears stayed ever open to others. He'd just been moments away of even answering Toc's mental communication -- the one to his early request, and not the most recent -- when the world went dark. Instinctively he flinches, but just barely resists turning his head away least he lose the one semblance of direction he had on the potential caster.
'No. It isn't. Two mages above. Too high to guage proper distance, but high all the same. I will remain where I am in this... void if it helps. But we will need to be a lot further away than this'With that, Xemnez grudgingly dropped Nezmos in order to draw his bow and begin loosing arrow after arrow up at the wizard that flew closer earthward... or so where he last saw him at least.
Action: Longshot Barrage vs Flying Lich(?) at 280ft. (Long Range, Lethal)Longbow - Attack: 13 Damage: 4 of non-magical piercing. (Long Range, Lethal)Longbow - Attack: 19 Damage: 4 of non-magical piercing. (Long Range, Lethal)Longbow - Attack: 20 Damage: 4 of non-magical piercing.

Zedge hears the words of the smart magic elf in his head. Need to touch. But it is dark. Why did it get dark? I do not like those sounds. Or the cold. Where did the robes that fly send me? More far away, cat man, got it.
(He doesn’t realize it but he sends this over the telepathic link.)
He stands up to his full height (he’s Huge - not sure how tall King Kong is but maybe he peels out of the 20ft radius sphere, given he may not be in the center of it?) and looks around to see if he sees anything. If he gets a glimmer that he is in the same spot, and even if not, he comes back down and feels along the ground. He has a memory of Kit Kat being places somewhere under a napkin, so he reaches out to that place and tries to find her. If he does, he scoops her up and tries moving forward, massive knuckles on the ground, hoping he gets out of wherever he’s been sent.
Assuming this gets Zedge out of the sphere, he looks around, and if he can grab a tarp or awning of his own he will try to cover himself. Let me know what he sees and that will decide action or dash to Toc.
Xemnez takes cold damage at the start of his turn: 5 (sorry for missing this). He also takes 10 acid damage as he stays in the dark, acid lashing at him.
Meanwhile, the massive ape arches its back, standing up straight on its hind legs. His head pokes up and out of the sphere of cold, creepy darkness surrounding him. He glances around and notes one of the flying enemies getting closer, as well as a couple forms coming staggering out of the tavern, coughing on smoke as they try and get their bearings. To his left he sees the sword priestess, the little elf wizard, and the other fallen priestess all out in the street looking around.
Growling at the cold air encasing his body (7 cold damage), he bends down and gently feels around for the 'napkin wrapped' serving girl. He finds her easily enough, picking her up (resulting in a scream issuing from the darkness). He also remembered a nice big blanket like thing on this left, so he grabs that, and then using only a single fist dragging the tarp to move, he run hops out of the darkness and towards Toc, arriving next to them. The woman, as she emerges from the darkness and sees her new situation, issues yet another scream, her torn serving dress fluttering about her as she's ferried away. Then her face looks angry, and she pounds her fists uselessly, at his big fingers, and yells at the big ape, "LET ME DOWN YOU BIG APE!!!"
As the ape arrives at Toc, it drags the large tarp over its body to shelter it from the mean creatures above....as yet more blasts continue to rain down upon it.....

(Long Range, Lethal)Longbow - Attack: 13 Damage: 4 of non-magical piercing.

When you realize you're doing too much: Signature.
(Zhuti does not resist)
ey/em/eirs, or they/them works, too (just not he).
Role-playing since that keep on those borderlands. I love it so.

Zhuti grimaces at the cold, flashes a smile at Kit Kat, then crouches next to Kyriani. "Time to wake up, darling," she says, laying her hands on the priestess.
Action: cast Cure Wounds with a 3rd level slot on Kyriani, healing 24 hp.
It being the end of her turn, Zhuti gains 21 temp hp for being within the Twilight Sanctuary.

Kyriani's eyes flutter open. There's grime on her face and ash in her eyelashes. She blinks rapidly, her eyes scanning about at the chaotic scene in the world. Then a deep furrow forms on her face. "The stone...where is it?"
One of the men come hovering out of the smoke rising from the roof of the tavern...up in the air 75 feet after having emerged through a hole in the roof. He opens his hands and a streak of fire flies form it, shrieking towards the cluster of people.
Zhuti, Nuzej, Kit-Kat, Toc, Kyriani : DC 19 Dex saving throw. 38 fire damage, save for half.

The flames explode around everyone, and then just ask quickly boil away into nothing leaving a burning tarp on top of the ape and ash and scorching everywhere. Toc is glowing slight, and mutters out loud, "That guy really needs to die."
Thyrius, Simaal, you're both up.

Kit-kat goes limp in Nuzej's hand, while Kyriani's eyes are closed once again as she continues laying on the ground. (and on second thought, Toc is not glowing, just smoking slightly)

The big ape takes 2 points of acid damage and 33 of force damage, getting more and more angry, but the wizard underneath keeps control of the spell and stays an ape.
Then the fireball happens and the ape is probably not so lucky.
