Rubbing his collar and pin thoughtfully, Ink replies, "Good idea - I'll also reach out to our other contacts. They seem to able to find out just about anything. Someone must know something about this.... The rod was not giant made, despite being giant sized."
"That is strange...and troubling. It does strike me as odd that fire giants would make it this far into the Dessarin Valley without my receiving some kind of warning.
"I want to make sure that our organization is aware of the gravity of the situation, but I'm afraid the only 'contact' I have in the area is...you. A message needs to be delivered to Everlund with haste—would your team be able to undertake this important job?"
"Ah thank'ye friend. That's a fine offer an' ah'll think on it when ah can, but I warn ye it'll be some time 'fore I can settle in fer it. Ah'm under oath ta th' Lord's Alliance fer now. An b'sides, these skinny lads'll need a dwarf around if they run inta any more giants, an' Ah'm thinkin' ain't a one o'em's got th' sense not ta! HAHA! Anyhow, a deal's a deal, here's me mail in trade, it be no as fine o' work as ye normally turn out, but it's servicable, an' Dwarven make, an' ah took good care o' it.
"So, how's yer custom been with Felbarr?"
"Never better," smiled the smith. "I get new orders all the time. Ye know," he said pensively, "I reckon I could do all of ye a big favor, seeing as ye saved Triboar from sure devastation. Come and see me, both of ye and the rest of yer friends, before ye leave. I'll have something for ye to take with ye—it'll be lightweight, so don't fret about anything overloading yer packs!"
"I want to make sure that our organization is aware of the gravity of the situation, but I'm afraid the only 'contact' I have in the area is...you. A message needs to be delivered to Everlund with haste—would your team be able to undertake this important job?"
"I know that we are more than capable of it and I'm sure that I can convince them of it. We'd likely be hitting up Yartar on the way. I'll try to pick up more information there. This group are mostly card carrying members of the Alliance, so as Lord Protector of this town, your request will carry weight - I'll be discrete with conversations and contacts though. Who is it that you want me to see?"
Ink notices Marav stepping into the caravan area, he says, "Yes, Marav, I agree - that wizard would be better dealt with tomorrow, preferably without resorting to tooth and claw." That last bit being said with a smile.
Seeing Marav digging, he takes her aside, "Oh, yes.... Darathra, I have the feeling that whatever the giants were looking for is buried here. You may want to secure a crew for digging and security. Whoever helped the giants make this rod, would have an interest in what it finds. Best find women and men you personally trust. "
"Oh, and if I might, Darathra, I'd like to put in a good word for Narth. He fought bravely and led the initial effort to stem the fires. I know he's from Yartar, but he's a good man - if a bit wild eyed. It is my hope that he gets to be more accepted here in Triboar."
Angel, after his short rest, would have helped Urgala clean up what remains of the Northshield House. He knows that her inn was heavily damaged by the Magmin's fire and he also wants to make sure her doggies are okay. Angel has a real connection to innocent creatures; like doggies.
"A little singed but it will do nicely." Marav casually mends any little blemishes caused by the damage. He joins Ink at the dig site.
He quietly starts to dig.
After about an hour digging, the sun low in the sky, you hit something very solid, about 2 inches thick and in a seeming long, curved shape. The thing—perhaps a ring?—extends past the point where you've been digging. You estimate that, if the object is indeed a circle, it's probably more than 10 feet wide.
"Aye Gheldryn, ah will." Flint helps tidy up and pushes boulders out of the way. "It's gettin' on, an' ah could use a drink. Think ah'll fin' me companions an' figure out where we're bunkin'. Saw an ale house on th' way inta town earlier, ah may be there later if yer up fer a brews."

"Ah, a drink is a good thing to have. Ye'r probably taking 'bout the Triboar Arms. Nothing wrong with yay like that place. If you're looking for a more authentic experience, though, I'd recommend the Talking Troll. Clientele ain't much to look at, but if you've got a tolerance for old drunks, and the...occasional...bird dropping on the floor, the cellar is the best stocked this side of the River Shining! If ye like a good ale or liquor, Sarssir's yer man."
Angel, after his short rest, would have helped Urgala clean up what remains of the Northshield House. He knows that her inn was heavily damaged by the Magmin's fire and he also wants to make sure her doggies are okay.
Urgala is more than grateful for the services you continue to give, as you help her and her staff clean up. Unfortunately, it'll be days, maybe weeks, before the inn is in any shape to receive guests. But at least no one had lost their life.
"I had given up on adventurers before you and your friends showed up," says Urgala. "It's why I retired. But you're alright really. I only wish I could offer you room and board. As it is, I might be able to point you in the direction of a giant-slaying sword.
"An old acquaintance of mine, a knight named Zymorven, had one of those giant killers, if I remember correctly. Beautiful blade. If you're interested, I could send you with a good word, and I bet he'd be willing to part with it. If you run up against a giant again, maybe it will make your job a bit easier!"
"I'm just glad everyone and the doggies are okay. A giant slaying sword, you say? I don't really use swords but maybe Marav or Flint would appreciate it; I'm sure it would help greatly if we run into some more giants like that. Or, perhaps Ink could learn the magic behind it and apply it to my quarterstaff." Angel responds with a smile on his face. He is glad for the little normalcy after that attack.

Whoever helped the giants make this rod, would have an interest in what it finds. Best find women and men you personally trust. "
"I'll save the details for whether you're all assembled—I need to procure some seals for you to present anyway. But as for that piece that you've found there...if that's what the giants were after, I'd rather that it was taken from here. If you don't mind, that is."

"Of course," said Urgala. "The last time I spoke with him, Harthos was living in Zymorven Hall, his ancestral keep on the Rauvin Road, northwest of Silverymoon. That's probably still where he is.

"I'm sure that everyone is about helping your citizens... or drinking. I'll gather the party together before you, if not tonight then into the morning."
Looking at the ground before them, "If whatever is in there fits in my bag - it's bigger on the inside - we'll take it off your hands. Otherwise, maybe your contact in Everlund can send a crew here to see it safely stored."
Marav looks at Ink... "That thing is like 10' around. We need a horse and wagon to pull that thing. We can do it of course, but the bag just isn't THAT big, I don't think. As for that sword... I would love it, but I am thinking Flint might be able to wield it with better results. We'll have to look at it and see who it fits better."
//missed post 3580 - assume that Ink and Darathra are talking off to the side outside of normal earshot and hadn't noticed that Marav found something and haven't been notified yet. And I think the sword conversation is between Urgala and Angel at the inn in a different part of town... //
//I was thinking we were all relatively close to each other going in and out of buildings. We really need better ways to communicate over distances. Maybe like earrings? :-p//
