Wheeling on Marav "Lad we coulda walked out o'ere on peaceful terms. Now we got an enemy at our backs who done'na harm ta us 'fore now. He done'na wrong ta that stable boy an ye got it in her head ta do all yer talkin' wit'yer sword. Ah got th' feelin' this ain't over, an' fer what? He was rude. That ain't'na reason ta bite 'is face off. When next ye think ta start a fight that th' rest o' us are tryin' ta avoid, dont."
"Peaceful? Those gargoyles weren't peaceful and they operate on his orders. There was nothing by peaceful here. He was ignoring a lawful order and bringing in evil creatures to torment a town."
"Well neutral at least. An' yeah, 'e's thinkin' e' ain't gotta answer ta no one. 'E's wrong fer that, an' we gotta bring 'im in, but we can't just....." Flint trails off and starts heading back towards town, kicking rocks and grumbling as he goes.
“Nobody is dead so, let’s just say we all learned a value lesson about jumping into fights here. Tomorrow is a new dawn and a new day so let’s just rest and deal with the fallout tomorrow.”
Angel then begins heading back to the tavern they were at before the whole gargoyle thing began.
Your conversation is interrupted by loud whinny that pierces the silence. Galloping your way are 12 riders, half bearing torches, half with spears and crossbows drawn.
Drawing near, the leader sees the group of you and canters up, forming a semicircle with his spear and torch bearers, while the crossbowmen take a wider path. "What seems to be the problem here?" He asks. "We were just riding back into town and saw what like a wizard fight. Was that any of you?"
Marav steps up, "Yeah, uhm... Rip?" He turns to the little bard knowing that if he talks to these guys there is a chance he might have to fight 12 armed men and this time it would be his fault.
Ink steps up, "You must be the Twelve that Darathra had told us about. We are glad you are here, but we wish it had been a bit earlier."
"Earlier this evening, the wizard's gargoyles began harassing the citizens, one of them going so far as grabbing at a young woman. Despite being tired and injured from battling the fire giants earlier today, we were able to defend the citizens and capture one of the gargoyles while chasing the others off."
"We decided to return the gargoyle to the mage here at Boar's Rest and perhaps talk to him about his guards and the stable boy situation. Unfortunately, during the exchange there was a misunderstanding and a fight broke out."
"The gargoyles returned and the mage started throwing spells which is what probably caught your attention. Two of our members fell, if not for a couple of potions on hand they would have stayed down. Like I mentioned, we had already been tapped out from battling the fire giants and were not in any shape to defend ourselves against a fully rested mage. We were lucky to walk away from this - I get the feeling that he thinks us beneath him and didn't think the battle was worth his effort to continue, so he disappeared... although he left his gargoyles to try and finish us off. We took them all down, but barely."
"That last one we probably could have let it fly off, but as you saw, we plucked it from the sky. A result of having to fight for our lives led to that instinctive decision - I'm sure you all would understand the situation."
"Young Rip here was going to turn the whole battle into a 'graphic novel.' It'll do better to describe the situation compared to my mechanical explanation."
"nothing instinctive about that last one Ink, the gargoyles were the main problem Darathra asked us to help with. problem solved, not how I was wanting to solve it but I didn't count on the Wizards complete and utter disregard for Darathra's authority. we told him she wanted to discuss issues he was creating in the morning and if he didn't show we would be forced to 'escort' him. He scoffed, litteraly scoffed at the idea that there was any authority he had to answer to. That upset my friend here as earlier today we fought and bled beside Darathra defending triboar. Negotiations failed, fortunately no one died but the Wizard must be brought in. He has information regarding the giants that he chose not to share, that willful negligence almost cost villagers their lives. It did cost them their homes."
"Without getting that mage in custody he is just gonna hire something more evil next time. I for one don't want to have to come back out here and face whatever demon he hires next to 'protect' him." He glances toward where the wizard lives. "Wizard is pretty bad off right now, we might not have best him, but we sure as heck beat the living daylights out of him. Might not be a bad time if you 12 want to go take him into custody."
The horsemen start muttering amongst themselves at the mention of giants. The leader again speaks up, and his Illuskan accent is readily apparent as he drops his more authoritative tone.
"Truth be told, I'm glad to see the end of those gargoyles. Nothing but trouble they've been for the last tenday or more. But... giants? We just returned from the southern farmsteads, and we heard no word of any giants coming this way. You're saying you lot defended Triboar from giants?"
"Come on...let's all go back to the town center and Darathra can fill you in herself - unless you twelve intend to bring the mage in now. I'd rather try again tomorrow or catch him while he's sleeping."
// Did Quill notice any peculiarities earlier? Forgot to ask. //
"Nope Ink, I escalated the fight, but I distinctly remember being knocked around by a gargoyle first."
