Crownsguard is riding alongside Marav, “Please be aware. We are approaching the wolves. Please allow me and Marav to engage first. I do not desire for any of you to be injured. Please keep watch on the noble as well. I do not desire his injury either.”
Ink murmurs, "Quill is alarmed - something isn't right, but I don't know what..."
// I assume that I can't see through Quill's eyes as I'm concentrating on the fire bolt. //
Ink unsheaths both his scimitars, a worried expression suddenly reaching his face as he realizes what these wolves may be... As they come over the rise, he whispers, "The Grey Wolf."
It happens so quickly that it is hard to tell what is going on. Amidst the howls, a horn joins in. The cacophony seems to drive the carrion birds above into a frenzy, and they take to the skies, flapping madly around the owl Quill and blood hawk Steele.
The howls turn to growls, and over the ridge to your west bound four wolves, frothing at the mouth, and four more creatures that might be described as wolves...although they are running on their hind legs, are wearing ragged clothes, and have blood-red eyes. The lupine monsters are loping towards you.
At the same time, arrows go whizzing from the north, and battlecries are heard. From the direction of the woods, humans clad in leathers and rags are rushing towards you, blades drawn! They have the same murderous look in their eyes that the wolves do, and both groups are rushing so as to box you in.
To your direct south, there is a sharp bank leading to the river (a 10-foot drop).
// Map is up! You may place yourselves anywhere within 30 feet of the lower right-hand corner of the map. //
“Why does this keep happening? Do we attract danger? The probability of this occurring so often must be extraordinarily low. We are very lucky.” If Crownsguard can activate his Channel Divinity before initiative, then he will.
//Do they appear as though they are together? Have they already been fighting? Just wondering if we interrupted an in progress fight or if we have to kill them all. :) Also, I can't move either.//
Ink stands beside Rip, looking over the bard's head and past the wolf, he notices a massive werewolf with white fur. He murmurs, "That one..." and reacts.
A fire bolt shoots out of his hand and streaks towards the monstrous beast...
// Spell Attack: 22 Damage: 8 //
// AWAY - if you need me to move Ink to get a better line of sight, feel free to slide him around. //
It is unlikely that these groups were just fighting, seeing as they are coming from separate directions straight toward you. Several arrows are loosed from hiding spots in the woods, raining down on the unexpecting adventurers...
Attacking Rip: 16 Damage: 6 piercing
Attacking Ink: 13 Damage: 6piercing
Attacking Flint: 12 Damage: 7 piercing
Attacking Marav: 19 Damage: 5 piercing
Attacking Crownsguard: 15 Damage: 5 piercing
...as Ink's prepared firebolt singes the fur of the white werewolf. The monster roars as he charges.
// Your move! There are currently 4 werewolves, 4 wolves, and 6 visible tribal members with more lurking in the trees to the north. //
BTW, Steele and Quill are currently beset by a flock of crows, which seem to have been driven into a frightened frenzy. They don't seem malicious, but are treating the predatory birds as threats.
Ink ducks under a flying arrow murmuring, "When in doubt, let it rain fire."
He raises his blade and sends a red flare if light among the wolves and werewolves... A fireball explodes consuming those within it.
He then begins humming loudly and spins through the air enabling his Bladesong, moving behind the trees to attempt to gain some cover from the archers.
// 31 fire damage, DEX Save 15 for half. I believe Ink can place the fireball in such a way that he can get all the werewolves and all but one wolf. //
Horse will dash toward the white werewolf as Crownsguard activates his Holy Weapon Channel Divinity. Crownsguard locks his hands together at the hilt of his blade as flowing light curls along the blade of the sword. It looks as though the blade has been sharpened down to a geometrically perfect width. “Please, stand down. I will be forced to subdue you by force.”
Crownsguard and horse will take any opportunity attacks.
// Ink has 3/4 cover from ranged attacks from the north. //
Ink's fireball blossoms in the midst of the wolves, frying three of the wolves outright and burning the four werewolves. They stop in their tracks momentarily, surprised, as Crownsguard dashes towards them...
The frontmost werewolves, acting with surprising deftness, takes swipes at Horse as Crownsguard charges through their midst.
Opportunity-Attacking Horse:
11 Damage: 5 23 Damage: 6
The remaining wolf likewise snaps at Crownsguard's heels as he rides past, trying to unseat him:
Attack: 14 Damage: 6 (on a hit, you must succeed on a DC 11 Strength saving throw or be knocked prone)
EDIT: that's supposed to be with advantage for the wolf's attack, take the higher: 14
