Everlund is still a city full of activity. It’s midmorning, towards the end of Leafall, and thus winter provisions are underway.
The Bell Market is lively and vibrant, and while not as extensive and comprehensive as the markets in the greater cities on the Sword Coast, you can find most adventuring gear and many services here.
Ink, already having a climber's kit, will look for cold weather clothing, a lot of sturdy rope, knotted specifically for speedy climbing, which can be tied together to make about a three hundred foot length (or whatever estimated distance Krowen gave for the depth of the hole which the barbarian encampment was located).
No longer thinking he has time to silver his blades, Ink spends the rest of his time in the market looking for old, used books either on magic or possibly magical in nature, that could possibly include formulas to new spells - he doesn't limit his search to actual bookstores knowing that sometimes the best deals are struck at the oddest places.

(I don’t believe Krowen mentioned a specific depth...)
There is a ropemaker in town that proudly offers to sell you “the highest quality silk ropes in the Vale.” He carries them in 50-foot lengths, and will sell you six lengths for “Fifty dragons, that’s a bargain you won’t see elsewhere.” He also is extremely keen to talk about knotting techniques and general properties of rope.
"Of course, Crownsguard - the company would be welcomed."
----
Speaking to the rope maker, Ink replies, "This truly is a beautifully crafted rope. However, I was seeking hempen rope. Given that the rope is a thicker braid, the knots put in to aid climbing should be considerably larger and make climbing up more efficient and stable. Have you any of that?"
“Bah, hempen, you don’t want that stuff!” The ropemaker scoffs at your request. “Nasty, rough, heavy material. I don’t work with it. My rope is the best there is, I guarantee it! Far better than the rope they sell down at the dock.”

"Fair point, but given I'm getting ready to purchase five lengths of your exquisitely crafted rope, I would hope that a bulk purchase discount is in order. Don't you agree, Crownsguard?"
Crownsguard nods, “Correct. Maintaining proper relationships with customers is paramount in beginning/maintaining a business. Applying a discount to large orders increases the probability that customers will place similar orders again in the future.”

The craftsman considers your words, but is quite taken aback by Crownsguard’s inorganic appearance. “Er...yes, I suppose that’s correct. Although I’m already giving you a deal, six lengths for the price of five...tell you what, I can shave off another 5 gold pieces. That’s 45 dragons, and that’s a right steal. And because you seem like a bright fellow, I’ll also show you good technique for knotting them together to form a longer line.”
Ink smiles, "Thank you, good sir." Ink hands over 45 dragons to the gentleman. He comments to him, "Are you from Waterdeep? 'Dragons' is not a common term for gold pieces this far west. And anything you are willing to teach, I'd be willing to learn."
Ink, as he pays the craftsman, studies him, looking for signs of where he might hail or evidence of his travels and trade.
The ropemaker looks confused at the question regarding the gold pieces. “I dunno...I’ve lived right here in Everlund most of my life, although I spent a good bit o time up in Silverymoon. Even been to Waterdeep, once! Splendid city if I ever did say so. But ah...I only ever heard folk around hear call ‘em ‘dragons.’ Didn’t realize it wasn’t normal!” He scratches his head a bit, but then remembers that he’s selling both you rope.
”Trick is, you make this kinda figure eight with the rope, like so,” he starts, and shows you all how to tie the ropes together. “When it’s knotted like this, no possible way to undo the knots while pulling. Only by easing the pressure up and pushing this bit through, like so,” he says, showing you how to untie the knot as well. “And if you were wanting to climb with easy knots in the rope, why it’s as simple as just so,” he continues, and threads the rope through his hands and into climbing knots with practiced ease.
As he is knots the rope, he talks. “Yep, been to Waterdeep, but not recently...not since the trouble with al these giant folk running amok. Hasn’t been great for business, as you can right imagine.”
Finally, he is finished with the knots. “Here you are! Shortens the overall length a little, but makes climbing a whole lot easier. You’ll be thanking yourself for those knots if you’re planning on climbing this whole length!”
While the silk ropes are knotted together, the full length is about 250 feet altogether.
