Turning to face the voice, Flint says "Who wants ta know?"
You see nothing.
"You approach the domain of a wizard and dare not identify yourself? Release the minion and make yourselves known." The voice sounds displeased, but also a bit dismissive.
"You may speak," says the voice, and in front of you appears a trim-bearded human with long hair, in a very ornate set of pajamas—purple linen with gold lining and crescent moons printed on the material. There is a silvery-blue sheen about him. "You may start by explaining yourselves, and if you are returning the gargoyle, release him now."
"How about you start by explaining why we found a gargoyle of yours attacking the village? you can't claim they are for home defense if they aren't anywhere near your home!"
"How about you start by explaining why we found a gargoyle of yours attacking the village? you can't claim they are for home defense if they aren't anywhere near your home!"
"Preposterous! You impugne my sense of decency. The gargoyles would never attack the village. I need the village. If you saw the gargoyles flying around and decided to attack them, that is hardly my fault. And if that is the case then you should be paying damages to me."
"then how did we catch one in the center of the village if it were on your property where it's supposed to be? there have been several complaints filed against then. I myself was picked up and tossed about willy nilly 50 feet up! We are here on behalf of Darathra (or the actual npc if it wasn't her lol) to bring you in to discuss these complaints. we were going to do this in the morning but your gargoyle raid caused us to advance our shedule. Oh, and thanks for the help against the fire giants that tried to destroy the village you claim to need"
Ink casts mage hand and uses it to operate the door knocker, and then approaches the door again, if it asks again for a password Ink will reply in orcish, "Hyuth Kolstaag..." taking a pause as if, he's gathering his thoughts, and then continuing, "... is he home? For I wish to speak to him about his gargoyles... among other things."
"Tossed about? You look fine to me, master halfling," the wizard intones. "And now my guards are not allowed to fly around town? Is there a law against this? 'Gargoyles may not breathe in the same air space as humans'?"
The wizard's face takes on a look of scorn. "Furthermore, I don't have to answer to you as to my actions, intentions, or whereabouts. The fire giants came not to destroy Triboar. If you had any powers of foresight, you would know this too. Now if you're done insulting me and maligning my guardian for simply flying around near where there are people, I'll take him home and see to his wounds."
“Sir, we just want to talk really. We understand why you have the gargoyles but they are not the best solution to your problem. Perhaps all of us, Darthra, you, and us can can all sit down and try to find a better solution. The gargoyles are simply causing too much trouble for the villagers but I’m sure we can find something that does the same thing without harming the village. Have you tried an owl? Our wizard friend uses an owl to help him keep guard.”

The door did once again ask for a password, and at your reply, the door swings slowly open...

"Oh yes," the wizard laughs, suddenly merry, "yes, let's try your owl against my gargoyle and see how that goes!" As soon as he is finished speaking he scoffs and again takes on an expression of scorn.
The door did once again ask for a password, and at your reply, the door swings slowly open...
Ink sees the open door, and whispers, "Strategy dictates that I should close the door and regroup with my peers... but I really, really want to go in." He sighs, looks at a coin in his hand, contemplating as if flipping it would give him an answer....
.... instead, he uses the mage hand to gently close the door and flies about a foot off the ground while standing upright, Quill resting on his shoulder, down the path back to the town, hoping to meet his compatriots along the way.
“You don’t have to be so mean. I was just suggesting an alternative. Surely there is something less Chatoic you could use to help protect your house.”
"They suit me," the wizard says flatly. "I'll have my guardian back, now. I'm done asking nicely, and would like to retire to bed as I'd planned on doing before all your ruckus."

You encounter them presently, at the bottom of the hill where the mansion rests, on a path surrounded by some young desiduous trees, conversing with an oddly-dressed human of obvious magical power.
"If you live in Triboar you fall under the Jurisdiction of Darathra, who sent us. Gargoyles may fly where they wish so long as they are not terrorizing or vandalizing private property, but if they are for your defense from assassins they are fairly useless if they aren't at your home. Furthermore the giant's would have destroyed the village for fun even if it wasn't the goal. You claim to know they were coming and why, yet did nothing to warn the village or help prevent a fight. If you want your gargoyle back you can have it, but your presence is expected in the morning. This was the nice way, if we have to come get you it will be unpleasant for everyone"
