Saros grabs the pole with some haste and despite the unfamiliarity of the situation, suddenly sees how he can use the pole to protect the canoe from rock and pointing in the right direction, and calls out over the rushing water "I think I can understand how to manouver the canoe....you guys worry about calling out the safest route and keeping it afloat"
Saros uses his Portent roll of 19, to give a 23 (with just base intelligence) or a 26 (with INT proficiency modifier if can be used)

The party has to act fast if they are to come out of this predicament with only minor bumps and scratches. So, naturally, the two rivals jump up and begin giving orders. Saros requests the pole Ghee had fashioned so he can help optimize the path of the canoe, while Khan yells at everyone else so they better understand the gravity of their situation. Orders given, everyone jumps to their stations.

Saros has a premonition and is able to see the rocks he'll push his pole against ahead of time. Khan motivates though fear. Ghee reaches into his pack once again and aidsDarrik hammer a loosened board back into place, though water is pouring in as they do this and the fix is incomplete. Ang looks over one side of the boat while Bleep looks over the other. They both yell suggestions in Common back to Khan and Saros as they to their respective parts. Unfortunately, all the information overload leads to a "too many cooks in the kitchen sort of situation."
The party loses control of the the canoe, which hits a few rocks on its way to capsizing. Luckily, the group manages to do just enough to keep the canoe in one piece, but they are now all on the water. Everyone tries their best to swim against the current and reach the river's edges, but fighting a river is no easy feat.
(@All: Everyone needs to roll an athletics check {DC 16} to safely swim to land. If you fail, you take 17 bludgeoning damage. If your roll + modifier comes out to be a 6 or lower, you take the damage and fail to reach land. "Abandon ship ya bampots! Try no tae hit any rocks on yer way oot!"
Wrapping his arm in the straps of his pack, Ghee hopes nothing too valuable is currently floating away from it pulled by the current of the river. Deciding to swim in the direction closet to one edge of the river, he hopes the others follow suit and the party isn't left stranded on either side of the river.

The moment Khan realizes the ship is well on its way to capsizing, she leaps into the water well before Ghee has finished calling out the warning, trusting in the silver band upon her finger. Still, she isn't quite face enough, and is nearly swept away out of the gate. But whereas others might've panicked, the Orange merely focused inwardly, calling upon Mr. Gee's lessons about using Chi to still the mind.
For a few moments, Khan could feel every senses heightened and time slow ever so much. It is within that calm that, rather than seek her safety, she sought signs of her fellow Grung. She would not lose another. Not like this. Not if she can help it. Thus, the moment she spies even one floundering, she fights only long enough against the current to get to them, grab an arm, and using a combination of the ring and on the spot alteration of step of the wind to feel out the currents to guide her companion along the path of least resistance.
All to get at least one closer to the bank, even if it meant her get swept further away...

Saros rolls 8
Fear of drowning gives Saros an unnatural motivation to get to shore, and the deep gnomes wild thrashings somehow see him scrambling up the nearest bank without being battered senseless by the rapids. Having seen himself to safety, he reaches for his quarterstaff to provide any assistance he can to provide something for others to grasp onto.
Dragging himself from the water coughing and spluttering, Ghee collapses onto the mud of the river bank.
Feeling every bruise and cut on his body from the battering handed out by the rapids and rocks, he heaves himself into his haunches to watch the others pull themselves ashore.
Watching a small orange speck being dragged downstream, Ghee finds himself shouting under his voice becomes hoarse.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
-> Khan is foregoing her advantage to help out Ang. Here's as extra roll for the purple grung: 18.
(OOC: Oof.. even worse.)
(OOC2: I'm not sure what happened there. The original roll was a 4 but it then changed to a 10 even though I'm not getting a "manipulation warning." Weird...)
The entire party hits the water and most struggle to find their way to safety.
@Bleep: Using your momentum to almost skip on the surface of the water like a stone, you are the first to reach the river bank.
@Saros: You thrash about in the water and inadvertently use the pole as a lever to deliver yourself back safely onto land.
@Ghee: You too reach land after swimming frantically, but not without hitting a few rocks on the way. (Ghee takes 17 bludgeoning damage.)
@Darrik: Your magical gloves come in handy and add speed to each of your well measure strokes. Unfortunately, they do little in terms of helping you close your mouth. You swallow an unhealthy amount of water. (Darrik takes 17 bludgeoning damage.)
@Ang: You are caught by surprise by the canoe flipping, and thus get a late start on swimming to shore. Luckily, Khan notices your initial struggle and swims under you. She headbutts you from below, throwing you to safety in what looks like a majestic river-dolphin leap. The headbutt and the landing still hurt, though. (Ang takes 17 bludgeoning damage.)
@Khan: Your sacrifice for one of your followers was truly noble. Not in the aristocratic sense of the word, but in its selfless meaning. Unfortunately, that also means that you couldn't actually swim to safety yourself, and these rapids are unforgiving. You remain in the water, hitting several rocks as you travel downstream. (Khan takes 17 bludgeoning damage.)
@All: You all see Khan being carried away by the rapids, as well as the canoe. In a last ditch attempt to save the orange grung before she gets too far, Saros extends his gondola pole towards her, which Bleep then uses as a sort of wharf to get closer to Khan and toss a rope. Their help might just be what saves the proud grung.
(@Ori: Please roll another athletics check with advantage.)
Khan tried her best, but the battering taken was just too much. If ever she saw the rope after tumbling in the water, it is hard to tell from the rest of her floundering around along the river. Even as fear had begun to retook root however, Khan -- assuming she was even capable of trying -- never cried out for help. Pride wouldn't allow it. Not yet. Not until too broken or bloody to keep fighting in some fashion.

(OOC @Lerus let me know how many ki points it's going to cost to step of the wind ahead of Khan. I'm going to try some monk bs of my own.)
Watching Saros and B'leep attempt to save Khan, Ghee snatches up the hempen rope from his pack and sets of at a dead sprint along the mud bank of the river.
If their attempts to pull her from the rapids fail, he knows that there might not be another chance; rapids having a tendency to lead to waterfalls and then, well nothing normally walks away from such a fall.
Throwing his arms into the effort, legs pumping hard, the dwarf curves his run towards the river, picking his spot - a rock positioned in the river, and he hopes right in the path of Khan.
(So my monk bs of this; sprint ahead of Khan, jump onto a rock in the river, not fall in, then use the rope to pull Khan to the rock. I think Ghee's jump is about 20ft on the run? Also I'm assuming an acrobatics check might be useful to land on the presumably wet rock. If not, Ghee does a rad back flip.)
Despite Saros' and Bleep's best efforts, Khan fails to reach land or even grab hold of the auxiliary rope. She continues to trash about and crash onto stones, tree roots, and the river bed. (Khan takes an additional 16 bludgeoning damage.)
Half-expecting the rescue attempt to fail, Ghee sprints alongside the river, dodging and jumping natural obstacles until he spots a rock on the river that is sure to be Khan's next "hugging partner." The rock is slippery and round, but the monk stands atop it as if he had done several times before.
(@Ori: Please roll another athletics check. You still have advantage for having a swimming speed.)
(@MB: Please roll either an athletics check to pull Khan out of the water with your hands or survival check to lasso your target.)
(@All: You have a couple more seconds before Khan gets dragged too far. Anyone else doing anything?)
(Assuming Ghee helps Darrik with the tools . . .)
