A massive invasion of barbaric Yuan-ti from the berserker isles are set to arrive at the city of Aurelia onboard hundreds of raiding ships minutes from now. Aurelia is located on the western end of the continent of Galesta and sits by the sea. It is under the control of the Aderanian empire. The berserker isles are located northwest, across the sea from Aurelia. Scouts have returned from the isles 3 days ago. They had reports of massive warbands being formed and ships being readied to sail. They concluded that a full-scale invasion is about to be underway. Although swift action was enacted by the city's consul, the barbarians were much quicker in their preparations than thought possible. This did not allow for much readiness to be had. Nonetheless, some preparations were enacted including hiring and training any willing adventurer nearby and reinforcing the outer walls of the city. The consul's plan is to hold the city until reinforcements from the nearby empire cities arrive to lend their aid. The five of you stand there at the walls overlooking the sea, your blood racing, and your heart beating faster than a running gazelle. You all were placed under the command of Sergeant Galius to watch a section of the Aurelian wall facing towards the docks and onto the sea. Sergeant Galius looks to be around his 30's. He has hazel eyes, black hair with a buzz-cut, and a clean-shaven face accompanying a well-defined jawline. He is clad in half-plate, enough to cover the vital parts of the body while still being able to move quickly.
Sergeant Galius eyes you all up and down, as if he were sizing you up. He nods, looking somewhat satisfied, then he begins to speak: "This will be the battle of a lifetime. Though they haven't been seen in decades, the records from the previous invasion say that the Yuan-ti are vicious and fight beyond comparison. Imperial records are usually very accurate. If you do not fight to kill, then you will be cut down like chaff. Make sure you stick to this six-man team and to always watch each other's backs. Do not break away from the group or you will die. We have a few minutes before they arrive. Make yourselves known to each other, it will help once the fighting starts... If not for someone to remember your name if you get cut down." He puts on his helmet and watches as what looks to be hundreds of ships sail closer to the shoreline and the docks. As the Sergeant finishes his speech, all of you begin to steel your nerves for the battle that is about to occur.
Galius shakes his head while staring out at the wall. Although you're only a recent recruit, he has heard of your antics from the other sergeants and isn't surprised. "It's all fun and games until these savages reach the walls. I suggest you take this seriously."
Galius sighs, "I'm not too sure Kuga. There could be at least a thousand based on how many ships they have. Who knows though, they might have brought some other things with them. The berserker isles aren't exactly the friendliest place. I've read from the report that the Yuan-ti people are quite adept at handling animals so we might be in for a surprise."
Gallius lets out a hearty laugh, "Probably. I wouldn't be surprised. I heard they were half-snake after all. Maybe they have some kind of control over them?" Then his eyebrow creases and he looks as if he is beginning to truly ponder your question. "Let's just hope they don't."
(OOC) Kuga please bolden your spoken words. thank you! Also feel free to actually introduce yourselves to each other. I'll keep the story going, so if the others don't post in a reasonable time I will go ahead.
Ereina listens attentively to the sergeant as he addresses the group. She mutters under her breath, "Six-man team?" She points subtly to herself then at each of the others. "I'm one, he's two, three, four, five..." She looks a little longer at the half-orc looming over her."I guess he will be the one doing double time."
Ereina snaps back to attention as the others begin to talk. She carefully watches and listens to each of them as they introduce themselves. It was interesting to see the difference in behaviour between the Genasi and the Half-Orc."At least one of them is taking this seriously."
"Oh, sorry. Just caught in the moment,"she said as the sergeant looked her way. "I am Ereina, formerly of Kath. A small town you probably haven't heard of, quite a ways to the southwest of here. Thank you so much for letting me be a part of this. I am sure it will be fascinating."
"A genasi. Fire genasi, that is. My mother was an imigrant, apparently. She gave birth to me on the ship and died. I find it rude she didn't live long enough to tell me her name."

"I travel...I have visited many places in my journies. I am a seeker of knowledge. I was nearby when the call came out about the threat and I couldn't just watch. There is too much that would be lost if the Yuan-Ti were to overrun this place. The memories of these people can never be replaced."Ereina trailed off as her thoughts took her in another direction. "When this is over I really need to find some way to record these memories. Maybe I can hire scribes to document their stories. No plays and poetry will last longer than dusty tomes that no one will ever look at again."
As her mind wandered, Ereina started to pace a little, her hand straying to one of the many knives on her belt. This particular knife appeared to have a faintly orange glow, as if fire burned within the blade. Suddenly she stopped short. "Oh, sorry. You were asking about why w were here. What about you?"

"Yes, Sergeant Gallius, sir!" Arson is standing to attention, as she has been taught, but you can see her making humorous gestures behind her back.

Galius' tone starts to bring Arson back to earth. "Like.... what type of animals? Snakes? I hope not. I hate snakes."
