" Yes, we do have to talk about that for sure. But let's keep the captain alone to think things through. And let's get some food." The grin he has is contagious.
Nino is a halfling with a purpose when he takes you below deck to the kitchen.
A few words to the chef and you are all seated around a large table with stew and large slabs of bread and cheese.
As captain Jalako used to say, there is a time to talk, and a time to listen. Keeping his mouth uncharacteristically shut, Spaerin will follow Katherine, and Karoguar to find Nino.
Cool follows Nino and the group to the kitchen. “I’m not sure I understand. “Getting the ‘spell’ to come with us.”” Cool asks “The person we are looking for is a mage?”
I.S.A.A.C.S tilts his head curiously as he follows and listens accordingly. He begins to speak but the act of the Halfling stuffing his face turned his metaphorical stomach. After a few moments of allowing the Halfling to eat the cybernetic artificer speaks up "Might ye be aware of the kinds o' threats we face? Or what we may be lookin' for in the trap? Me expertise be the forge but I know me way around a kit o' thieves tools and would be happy te dismantle such a prize. All sorts o' useful bits in traps." Seeming to be hoping for a mechanical trap versus being ambushed or the like.
"The spell we are getting is.... " he seems to be looking for the right word. " alive. A strange occurrence but to our benefit in this regard. It is being held by house Kundarak, the House of Warding, for its safety. Our meeting is with one of their agents."
"As for the other task, we don't really know who is after us or even why but we really want to have an idea. The meeting we are setting up is at the Korvair University with a researcher named Karl Setiss. He has strange theories that might give us a better idea of what to expect once we leave the planet. And we believe he is being watched by our ..." once again he stops looking for the right word." Competition."
"So a diplomatic mission to one of the houses, then a baiting the trap mission for us all." Kathrine comments. "We should probably have someone who is good at sneakign around, and who can keep out of sight on the second mission, so that they can see if anyone is spying on us during that meeting at the university."
Spaerin nods his head in agreement with Kathrine. "a lot of us, um let's go with stand out, so we should also use someone who blends in. Add to that someone in the shadows, and we got the beginnings of a plan. "
” I believe our second mission might benefit from having someone who stands out quite a bit, to draw them out, yet can disappear quickly or defend themselves if that doesn’t work out.”
"Did you say Kundarak? That's... well, I've met a few of them. Kind of. I'm pretty sure they had helped set up some protections in our labs when dangerous creatures were brought in. Um... what were we talking about. Right. Living spell. That sounds amazing. I'll noodle on that. Springing traps... um not my specialty but I'll work hard to fix ya up," Therne says.
"In the jungle of Scimitars, the people there sometimes use a lure to draw away rival predators that hunt the same prey. The trick is to give the other hunters just enough of a sign for them to assume the rest is true, and no more. Perhaps a similar strategy might be applied here. You say that the competition is watching this man, Setiss. Perhaps we might arrange for one of us to assume his place for a few hours - nothing dramatic, just a few hours in his study, while the real Setiss avoids detection and meets with the captain? I have, well, a few gifts in that area that might assist such a plan, though it would require his cooperation, and more information about the quality of the other hunters."
”Hiding. Defending. Drawing an enemy away. I believe I may be best suited for this task. I have a number of skills that could assist. But looking like a spell? I wouldn’t know where to begin.”
The blade moves at high speed and even from the distance you can all observe the magesty and grandeur of the city of Sharn.
Towers rise up until they disappear into the clouds. Lights gleam in a thousand windows making it look like a gem lit from the inside.
Sharn stands above the Dagger River. It’s an important port for anyone dealing with Aerenal, Xen’drik, or Sarlona. Mountains line the shores of the Dagger, and Sharn can’t spread out… so instead it’s grown ever upward.
Sharn is a vertical city, and height is a simple indicator of status and wealth. Each quarter is roughly divided into three levels, and the combination of quarter and level defines a ward. Thus, wards include Lower Dura, Upper Central, and Middle Menthis.
Sharn is broken into five “quarters”: Central Plateau, Dura, Menthis Plateau, Northedge, and Tavick’s Landing. Each of these quarters is a hub of massive core towers. A web of bridges and platforms connects these vast spires, and a host of smaller turrets sprout from the edges of the core towers. The district of Skyway floats above the highest towers, while the tunnels of the Cogs stretch out below the lower city.
As you gaze at the spectacular scenery Nino moves to you.
"Two groups then? Tell me what you can do and I'll divide you into effective teams. If you think you should be in a specific team tell me why."
Therne pipes up, "Well... I mostly heal, but knowing how to heal comes with a bit of knowing where to hit someone to make it hurt. I can do that too, not what I particularly like but I could if needed."
“I, of course stand out in a crowd. I can attract a great deal of attention and lul someone following me into thinking they can hang back quite far without losing me. A mistake since I can also vanish suddenly , especially where there are vertical surfaces most don’t expect to be climbed. I am also very quick with a blade in each hand.” Cool says with accompanying theatrical waves of the hands. “I believe I would make a very valuable addition to the second mission.”
Karogur nods to Nino. “I’ve skills at evading notice as well as the strikes of an enemy. I am a body approaching perfection of thought into motion, with a mind of study.”
"I am fine being in either group." Kathrine speaks up as she pushes some chestnut curls behind an ear. "I am good in social situations, but can aid those in almost any situation as I create a powerful bond (emboldening bond) between them, and give them the blessing of the Silver Flame (Bless spell and guidance) to aid them in whatever they are doing." She frowns though. "I am not likely to engage in fighting, unless it is a last resort though, so that should be kept in mind."

Karogur goes to find the Halfling right away.
”Nino? Sounds like there’s work to be done in Sharn. What sort of work?”

Kathrine follows Karogur, wishing to get the details of their mission as well.
"And anything specific we need to watch for while there?" She adds in to the halfling.
Nino smiles at Karogur's words.
" Yes, we do have to talk about that for sure. But let's keep the captain alone to think things through. And let's get some food." The grin he has is contagious.

" So what do you want to know ?"
As captain Jalako used to say, there is a time to talk, and a time to listen. Keeping his mouth uncharacteristically shut, Spaerin will follow Katherine, and Karoguar to find Nino.
Nino starts talking, between stuffing the delicious muffins into his mouth he manages to say a few words.
"Two jobs .... Dangerous."
" One, getting the spell to come with us, the other getting to the trap sprung. We need to know who is after us."
Cool follows Nino and the group to the kitchen. “I’m not sure I understand. “Getting the ‘spell’ to come with us.”” Cool asks “The person we are looking for is a mage?”
