“Do ya think it’s safe? Should we hurry or take it slow? What do we do gang?”

"Better there than here.  let's go!"  Ilyara suits actions to words and starts scurrying through the gap, if with a gimlet eye towards the ground in case anything Weird happens.

Just a little past the tendril plant you come to the cavern wall. Just a little to the left, maybe 15 feet you see a narrow crack or opening. The ground near it is well trod.

The ground shaking seems to intensify and you hear the crack of a mushroom trunk breaking behind you.

"I recommend haste!" Ilyara yelped, darting off with roguish alacrity towards the aforementioned gap.

“Hey! Wait for us!!” Toots hollers as she hurries after Ily.

Trundling forward on a multitude of legs crashing through the fungal forest you see a creature at least 10 feet high rushing in your direction!

“YIPE!!”

It is a Fanged Bogan a beast that often hunts the underdark but can sometimes be found in deep woods. Normal Bogans are vegetarian, feeding on fungi and trees. After mating, the female develops large fangs and becomes carnivorous in order to store proteins and blood needed to feed the young growing in her belly. 

“We shouldn’t hurt her, she’s just pregnant and hungry. Now that we’re safe in this cave she’ll eventually go find something else to eat that isn’t us. I wonder if the frog people live down here? Or whatever else might be down here?” Toots lights up another slug and whistles it out ahead of the party to light their way as they explore.”

The bogan crasHes thunderously against the opening a few times knocking down a rain of pebbles and dust. It whistles at the party in frustration before going in search of easier prey.

With the creature gone, you can hear the soft lap of water. The coin plinks once before falling down into darkness. A few seconds later you hear a plip of the coin hitting liquid. Looking over the edge 25 feet down, you see a slow moving river illuminated by the coin. The water seems mostly clear, the coin submerged to a depth of about 10 feet. There is a narrow beach of black sand backed by steep rocky walls rising to your height.

You notice a scrap of leather pinned under a rock near the edge of the drop. It has a crudely drawn "4" on it.

“Hey guys, wadaya make of this?” Toots asks, pointing to the scrap of leather.

"A four?  Fantastic! Valuable intel!  Maybe if we go four strides to either side we find a three and a five?  Or maybe if we take it to a counter, we'll get our deli order filled if they're finishing up with their third customer or maybe 5th or 6th if they're patient.  If they're on Seven I doubt we'll be honored....  What is this leather thing, maybe it's a size 4?"

“I wonder where one through three are? And what’s down there?” Toots asks, pointing to the water below. “Maybe one of us should snoop around. Ely, Ily, any thoughts?”

Ilyara looks at Toots and says, "I ain"T normally one for the sneaking and poking thing. Maybe we should kick Tallboots down there to have a look see?"

" 'sides.  My best guess is it's a trail marker a' some kind for th' locals, or maybe a piece a' one a' them flesh-zombie monsters you lot met earlier?"

Tommary the Unworthy Performer of His Own Stunts figures out a way to rig things so he can Australian* repel to the surface of the water and see what he can see. 

Survival 25 and Perception 25

*Tenet Australia taught Tommary and a lot of the people in the Totally Real Fighting Circuit rigging including stuff like using your rigging to simply run down a vertical surface.  He hasn't worked since a near fatal vertical wall run into a horizontally positioned Wall of Force but members of the Totally Real Fighting Circuit give him a stipend derived from the circuit's earnings and contributions from freelancing windfalls.  it's one of the reasons Tommary the Unworthy does what he does.
