"I don't have this place, this room, figured out to my liking. But I don't necessarily want to spend the last of our magic juice to get a better look at what this room's about. I say we secure the bridge and check out the other side. Maybe if we see the whole operation put together, we'll figure out how the specific pieces work."

You detect the whole room is filled with evocation magic from the darkness, the thin shmear of glowing liquid as magical, as well as whatever your companions have that is magical.
OOC: general OOC GM question in spoiler.
OOC: Would such a room be a way to hide a magical trap? Or would the trap be revealed for being some other type of magic? Just for future other campaigns.

Hawksley quietly sits and ponders potential new gimmick arrows while listening, without really conprehending, to the rest of the party talk.
OOC: Okay, to catch you up a bit. The party found some stuff to take those wobbly wooden platforms that almost Killed Tommary and turn them into a more stable bridge. We also found a cool magic item and there was some debate as to who should get the item. It was decided that the greatest benefit for the group overall is for Oethe to wield it. And we all hit 8th-level, I’m pretty sure you were here for that. Once we figured out who should get the magic item we took a quick rest to dress our wounds and for Oethe to attune to his new gear. Since Hawksley was uninjured during the last fight he valiantly stood watch over his party mates while they recuperated. There was also a bit of conversation about which resources (if any) we would expend to heal and we decided on spending hit dice and saving the magic for emergencies. (Somewhere in there I asked people’s opinions about a couple of spells too.)
We were deciding to either continue back to the wooden platforms and make the bridge, and Tommary was expressing curiosity about the purpose of the architecture around here. (Toots had also expressed similar curiosity about why things had been hidden the way they had been and by whom.) Toots cast a spell to detect magic so she could take one last look around to try to maybe answer Tommary’s questions.
Now that we are rested we are all about to head back to the mud room with the wooden platforms where we will be able to use the magic item that Oethe now has (it can turn into a ladder), and possibly the immovable rod you are carrying to make things stable so we can turn that death trap the platforms are currently into a stable bridge we can cross to get to the other side.

“Well Tommary, I don’t see anything else magical around here besides what we already know about. It’s possible that the magic from all that darkness and the magic from that sparkly maple syrup are masking something else, but since they aren’t masking each other I doubt it. Besides, that magic water would have probably showed us something if it was there to be seen before now.” Toots shoulders her pack and gestures towards the corridor and back the way they came. “Shall we then?”
OOC: Would such a room be a way to hide a magical trap? Or would the trap be revealed for being some other type of magic? Just for future other campaigns.
I could see how you could, if you and your table were ok with that sort of gotcha, some may criticize as entrapment. My game, if the PCs are using a reasonable amount of caution the spell would identify types and sources of magic. So the darkness is evocation all over the room, but if there was an evocation trap, the spell would notice another source of evocation magic as well. That might be more generous than the spell as written but unless the characters knew they were dealing with say a wizard known to use magical misdirection so a magic filled room should signal to proceed with greater caution, I'd provide type and number of sources, sort of like "notes" in a room full of music.

Looking out at the mud room, the party notices that the hardened mud plates they used to walk over have mostly been reabsorbed by the mud and the geysers of mud near the middle of the room now reach higher than the wooden discs. You surmise that without the bridging kit, crossing could be a deadly affair.

OOC: Is this the sort of thing where I can use some rods to stabilize the first bridge platform from here, or does someone likely me need to vault over to start the process? Also, Hawksley, you need to level up, was comparing athletics and acro stats, if it's a two person job looks like Elyona is close to on par with my athletics, though Hawks is right on par with me if he can sub acrobatics for athletics.
"Well I got here by jumping from that platform to this ledge. I can do it again, but that platform sways. I don't know about bridging. We got a stable anchor on this side but the other side is all swingy and could just give way as we cross it. I could go over and use the kit we found to secure it then we could use that doodad to make a bridge once we get the swinging platforms secure."

Using both the hooks and the ladder feature of the rod would make the crossing trivial. If you only use one or the other it would require a DC 10 skill check.
