I'm new in this world of D&D, so I'm sorry if this question sounds stupid.
I was reading through the Player's Handbook and decided to create a character following the Chapter 1 (Step-by-Step Characters).
Tiefling caught my attention so bad and when creating on D&D Beyond I saw a Feral Tiefling. Opened the page to read and saw that the only difference between Feral and the Standard one is that the character gets +2 Dex instead of +2 Cha. All good until now.
But then, at the Racial Traits section, more specifically at the Infernal Legacy, it says that "Charisma is your spellcasting ability for these spells."
Is this correct? I know Feral Tiefling is still a Tiefling, but since the ability scores chages from Charisma to Dexterity then shouldn't change the ability score for this spell? Since no Charisma is beign given due to the Race variant?
Think of it less as being tied to Ability Score and more tied to the nature of Tieflings and where their power comes from. Fiends tend to cast from Charisma, and if a player were to gain spellcasting granted by a fiend they would be a Warlock, which also casts from Charisma.
That said... recently, most races that include spellcasting have changed how they work to allow you to select which stat you use for your spellcasting. I don't think any of the PHB races have been errata'd yet, but it's not unreasonable to ask your DM if you can change what stat you use to cast those spells.

Oh, I understand it now. It's intrinsic to the type. Got it.
But this errata seems good... hope it doesn't take too long to get released. One question: where do you check these kind of updates?

Thank you very much!
All errata are always automatically applied here on DDB.
Yeah, I know. Just wondering when the errata of the races will be applied to the PHB and even though they are automatically applied, where can I see when it happens?

It pro’ly won’t happen for the PHB races until 5.5 comes out in ‘24. If you wanna keep yer eyes peeled though, the release errata on WotC’s D&D site: (https://dnd.wizards.com).
