Items don't have a history, they have a description. And you can create a homebrew version, change the description and give that to the player. If they have access to the original, they'll always be able to look the original up.

Is there a way to magically hide an item's history?
Can you be more specific on what you mean by it's history? You mean the legend behind it? The tale of its creation? The ancient use of it? Your use of it?
And, is this a player question, or a DM question?

Remember there are Rules as Written (RAW), Rules as Intended (RAI), and Rules as Fun (RAF). There's some great RAW, RAI, and RAF here... please check in with your DM to determine how they want to adjudicate the RAW/RAI/RAF for your game.
A player question. Can it's creation info be hidden/removed. If I were to try and determine any background on it could it be hidden/removed?
RAW , possibly a wish (with consequences) but outside of that, nope.
A DM, however, can simply invent a way as they see fit.

Maybe cast modify memory on the creator and anyone else who might remember it’s creation. Though that probably wouldn’t stop legend lore or other high level divination spells.
Is this something that already exists, and the character wants to hide, or something the character is about to create and wants to hide?

I think OP talks about within the game, so shield an item from something like Legend Lore.
Arcanist's Magic Aura is close but not quite there.
Oh.
Then, no.

A Wish spell should do it.

It has yet to be created and is intended to be given anonymously.
