I checked up on both classes, and I don't see any stipulation about when you can enter a rage as long as you are at least a 1st level barbarian. So does this mean you can rage while under the effects of a Polymorph spell or Wild Shape effect?
If it technically isn't restrained in that way, would you as a DM allow your Barbarian/Druid multiclass player to combine those abilities or would it be too strong?
Polymorph replaces all of your statistics with the creature's, so you don't retain anything from your character sheet other than your personality and alignment.
Wild Shape lets you keep any features that don't rely on your original form's anatomy, so yes, you can rage during Wild Shape. No, it's not broken; by multiclassing that way you're falling even further behind in spellcasting.
Yes this is allowed and yes it is powerful. However, as InquisitiveCoder says, it balances itself out pretty neatly. You won't get as much spellcasting as a full druid and your wild shape is also more limited, but also your rage is less powerful.
If I recall correctly a rather powerful build (especially on lower levels) is druid(moon)2+/barbarian(totem/bear) 2. This build has bazonkadonks (to use official Jeremy Crawford lingo) tankiness capabilities.

You need barbarian 3 for the bear totem primal path but otherwise you are correct :) .. makes for very tanky druid wild shapes ... but the druid will only get cr2 at level 9. The druid will also not have attacks counting as magical weapons until level 9. This can be mitigated a bit if the druid can get the Insignia of claws that is found in HotDQ.
As has already been mentioned - but the usual tactic for a Moon Druid is to cast a concentration spell and then wildshape. If you have Rage you can't have that concentration spell active and in some cases that could be a worse play than having the spell.
My first 5E campaign was Princes Of The Apocalypse, and one of our party was a Hill Dwarf Moon Druid/Bear Totem Barbarian multiclass, it worked quite well. His preferred forms were Giant Spider and Giant Scorpion. His focus was on using his Moon Druid abilities and his damage resistance to stay in his Wild Shape forms as long as he could in combat.
I’m about to try this combo. I can see it being effective as a tank and as zone control. I guess my biggest question was can you rage IN wild shape?
Also, Would a smart play be casting entangle on a group, wild shape, close the gap, and once engaged rage out? (Effectively slowing a groups combat positioning while you get closer then losing concentration on the spell to gain your resistances?) thanks for the thread everyone, really helped.
It's a viable build. I recommend the one dip in barberian. Question I have is can you heal with your spell slots while raging in wildshape. If so who cares if you drop concentration. It's a tank build anyway. Grapple feat.. rage up kick ass lol... most campaigns don't have the legs for tier 4 anyway. Have fun with it I say. :)

Yes, you can burn a spell slot to heal. The rules for Rage say you can't cast spells, not that you can't use your spell slots as a resource for other abilities. A Moon Druid/Barbarian can use spell slots to heal, and a Paladin/Barbarian can Smite to their hearts content, etc.

Heck, you lose concentration too, so I'd say it is very balanced.

You don't lose concentration by going into wild shape

But you do lose Concentration when you rage.

Ah yes, that's true. But that doesn't mean the wild shape rage combo doesn't work; you don't need concentration for either.

But it does mean that you can't have wildshape, rage, and a concentration buff, which might veer towards brokenness.

Gotcha, yes that is true :)

You can't rage while wild shaped. :-(
You can tho
Yes, you can it’s a full build for multiclassing, with the only drawback of loosing higher level spells.
