Considering that the Duergar and Kobold are getting their Sunlight Sensitivity removed in the upcoming Mordenkainen Presents: Monsters of the Multiverse book (according to the latest leaks), I think the writing is on the wall that Drow will not have Sunlight Sensitivity come “the next evolution of D&D” in 2024. Of course, that’s still two years from now…
Almost all of the Races have been updated so I expect that the PHB races will get some kind of update sooner than 2 years from now. I expect it to be similar to how the Dragonborn were revamped in a separate book.
This topic is still popping? Drow are massively powerful. Their superior darkvision, native spells and ability boosts outweigh any perceived downside of sunlight sensitivity.
If you absolutely must negate sunlight sensitivity, just have them use other elf stats and flavour them as drow.
I wouldn't consider not being talk about in 2 months popping, but sure. Also, dark vision to a range of 120 feet, the ability to cast 3 spells once per long rest and single point into charisma isn't a game changer and Sunlight Sensitivity is also not much of a downside since 'Direct Sunlight' is vague enough to "mean anytime during the day" or "Only so long as the sun isn't obscured in any way and goes away if there is a cloud in the sky or if you are standing in the shade of a tree".
