So with all the class and subclass changes that have been coming up in UA I've been mauling over the idea of allowing wizards in my games to prepare cantrips as they would any other spell. the number they can prepare is the same as the number known now and id have them start with maybe 4 cantrips in their spell books and allow them to learn new ones the same as any other spell. Would this break the wizard? Any thoughts on this idea, good or bad?
I can't see it breaking the wizard. In 3.5 edition wizards prepared cantrips up to a certain number, separate from other spells, and had all cantrips automatically known.
I'd be fine with them learning and preparing cantrips like they would spells.

In my world Wizards keep their Cantrips in spellbooks like regular spells and I allow Wizards to learn and prepare them just like any other spell they can copy into their book.

I could see maybe allowing them to change 1 cantrip per long rest as long as you extended it to every spellcaster.
