If a spell caster is within 5 feet of a bad guy and is going to cast a spell does the bad guy get an attack of opportunity?
I know if you move away from someone you're engaged with without using disengage they get an attack. What about if someone passes within 5 feet of you on their move?
Does an attack of opportunity use your attack or is it all considered a reaction? Thanks

Not in this edition, unless the bad guy has the Mage Slayer feat.

If someone leaves your reach without taking the Disengage action, you get an opportunity attack whether or not they started their turn in your reach.

An opportunity attack uses your reaction and only your reaction.

Aiming a ranged attack is more difficult when a foe is next to you. When you make a ranged attack with a weapon, a spell, or some other means, you have disadvantage on the attack roll if you are within 5 feet of a hostile creature who can see you and who isn't incapacitated.
Opportunity Attacks
You can make an opportunity attack when a hostile creature that you can see moves out of your reach. To make the opportunity attack, you use your reaction to make one melee attack against the provoking creature. The attack occurs right before the creature leaves your reach.
You can avoid provoking an opportunity attack by taking the Disengage action. You also don't provoke an opportunity attack when you teleport or when someone or something moves you without using your movement, action, or reaction. For example, you don't provoke an opportunity attack if an explosion hurls you out of a foe's reach or if gravity causes you to fall past an enemy.
[Spellcasting] Attack Rolls
Some spells require the caster to make an attack roll to determine whether the spell effect hits the intended target. Your attack bonus with a spell attack equals your spellcasting ability modifier + your proficiency bonus.
Most spells that require attack rolls involve ranged attacks. Remember that you have disadvantage on a ranged attack roll if you are within 5 feet of a hostile creature that can see you and that isn't incapacitated (see chapter 9).

I had a situation come up in my campaign where one of the players was about to be attacked by a kobold who was moving around another player (who was prone after falling unconscious, but was stabilized by the first player). They told me that the prone player should get an attack of opportunity since the kobold was moving around him, I didn't think so since the kobold did not leave the players area of engagement (player one is a halfling who was hiding behind the prone player). I went ahead and let him attack with disadvantage since he was prone, but for future reference should the AO been allowed?
Also if your character has the Mobile Feat your movement does not provoke an attack of oppertunity if you had made a melee attack againsthem, the Feat does not require a weapon attack as you can cast a touch based spell to move away.
In a fight, everyone is constantly watching for a chance to strike an enemy who is fleeing or passing by. Such a strike is called an opportunity attack.

You don't know what fear is until you've witnessed a drunk bird divebombing you while carrying a screaming Kobold throwing fire anywhere and everywhere.
I’m not going to bother to quote all of the mistakes in this, just put it here.
It is an Oppurtunity Attack, not an ”attack of opportunity.” (I believe that is from a different edition.)

No connection to Dragonslayer8 other than knowing them in real life.

What do you mean? I think I spelled everything correctly and used good grammar.

"Oppurtunity" (bolded in your quote)
The phrase "attack of opportunity" can mean an 'attack' born of, created by, related to or as a result of an 'opportunity'. It is fully and completely valid.
5th Edition has chosen to put the phrase as "opportunity attack", using 'opportunity' as a descriptor of the 'attack'. It contextually means the exact same thing as "attack of opportunity".

If the creature does not leave the threat range no opportunity attack is allowed.

An Attack Of Opportunity is a "FREE ACTION", and it DOES NOT count against any of your actions in combat!
Incorrect. There are no free actions in 5e. Making an attack of opportunity consumes your 1/round Reaction.
