I found this poem called "the Samurai" which I thought would be a good little background, each line is also a Haiku, so for the sake of character creation I'll call the character Haiku the Fighter/Samurai:
Wielding his blood sword, A hero who fights with pride, And slays with honor.
He is a brave soul, Drawing blood only for peace, Never for vengeance.
Even if he falls, In the midst of a battle, His name will live on.

As a noble of Sundabar, I'm already entitled to far more than the common mongrels of this filthy world. As a heavenly Aasimar who traces his lineage directly to He of the Unsleeping Eyes, the God of Guardians, Known as the Watcher and the Vigilant, Helm the Eternal Sentry, I am entitled to ALL the pleasures that this world has to offer. Trained at the Hall of Vigilance before its destruction, my only duty; smite any and all mongrels I deem evil or unfit to continue existence... there are so many...
Henric was taken in by the temple to learn the ways of the Cleric, as he was an orphan. Now the other members wished they had asked how Henric became an orphan. Especially now that he has escaped to do his gods work.
I'm thinking of my character for my next campaign maybe.
Human male Paladin Launcelot Sacre Couer fell in love with Lady Paulina before they were both 10 years old. He's pledged his heart to her, but they cannot be wed until he has proven himself by completing a holy quest. His greatest fear is that some evil will befall her while he is away slaying evil.
Bad Moon learned to steal, sing and gamble for his meals as a stray Tabaxi kitten in the slums of Port Nyanzaru.
The harbormaster's son was a terrible cheat in a late night card game, but Bad Moon is an exceptional cheat.
When the harbormaster's men came looking for him the next day and the next, he snuck into a crate of silks on a trader bound for the Sword Coast, and his adventures began.
I'll do some of my NPCs. Spoilers for my Pillars of the Sky players.
Kevhand the Shepherd was the bastard son of a god. He became a pirate and a cult leader. His goal is to keep the aarakocra of Solasta at war, either with each other or the drow, to keep privateers in demand.
Walben Lanster was begging on the windswept streets of Corowend when Kree Lo offered him a job instead of a handout: manager of the Vicit Venators Detective Service. Unfortunately he's barely literate, but what he lacks in skill or intelligence, he'll make up for in gumption.
Dr. Emeril Burgess was a professor at the Academy of Applied Arcana when he discovered a formula for constructing a doomsday device. He wanted to destroy the work, but the Majordomo took his wife hostage and forced him to continue his work. But when their first child was born, he could justify it no longer.
Originally my wood elf cleric (who I had been asked to convert froma ranger) was simply answering a call for aid from her son.
My DM absolutely messed this up by involving my back story in his introduction, but instead of setting his game at that settlement decided it wasn't important to his campaign.
If it wasn't important then why involve it at all?
Because of his screw up my cleric turned out to have been suffering from temporary amnesia the result of being banished from her world to Torbillo Sound.
It took a few days to recover from, but she was now seeking a way home or at least the means to communicate with the family she left behind.
And then my DM decided he liked my game so much he wanted his setting to move across to Exandria too ignoring the fact my Cleric was BANISHED from Exandria as a result of him messing up his introduction.
Bit more than 3 sentences, but given its because he couldn't keep his campaign straight I think I did well enough until he threw out the entire setting.
I'm a tabaxi trickery domain cleric. I prayed to the Traveler for help finding my missing parents, and they answered. I live in Ebberon.

I was taken in by a wandering circus when my parents abandoned me for bearing a hag's blessing. On the day that should have been my proudest moment, the day I became a woman and a performer in my own right, I instead watched as the people I loved most were butchered by monsters pretending to be nobility. Having barely escaped with my life, I now travel in the hopes of finding justice for my family, and to make sure no one else suffers their fate, or mine.
My great great grandparents were warlocks who made a deal with a devil and Because of this my family turned into teiflings and suffered alot of violence on the streets. So I entered a monk cloister to hide from the violence I suffered and to learn the ways of the monk but after a few years orcs drove us out.So I set out to reclaim the monk cloister and train in other monk cloisters I found along the way.
You grew up in a well-respected, learned, and very traditional Halfling family. You preferred listening to tales of the sea in rowdy taverns while also experiencing tavern brawls first-hand. You are now a lesser-known pirate whose parents and siblings are completely unaware that you're not an honest sailing merchant.

Human. Male. Possibly. Don't be a divider. My characters' backgrounds are written like instruction manuals rather than stories. My opinion and preferences don't mean you're wrong. I am 99.7603% convinced that the digital dice are messing with me. I roll high when nobody's looking and low when anyone else can see.🎲 “It's a bit early to be thinking about an epitaph. No?” will be my epitaph.
I awoke in a field hospital near Amberdine with no memory of my past. They told me my name is Marlon Truneu, and that I was a soldier (and a darned good one at that), but it’s all news to me. Now I have set out to find myself using whatever remnants of my past still come to me in flashes in my dreams.
The youngest son of a noble family, he yearns to be worth something he can't buy with his parent's money. Ultimately, he left home to avoid being married off into a family that had deeply wronged him, and wants to prove to himself and others that he can make it on his own. An event in his past has traumatized him and left him with a gap in his memory, and it remains to be seen what bearing this has on the present.
Frumplestiltskin was a Tabaxi Sorcerer who dabbled with Wild Magic but sadly died and a was reincarnated by a druid. It was the druids first ever attempt at a Reincarnation spell and the first time he had seen a Tabaxi and the spell went a little...wrong...Frumplestiltskin came back as a Cat, a normal house hold cat. He raoms the world, and is happiest when he can find a warm lap to sit on or warm fireplace to lie next to.
Character note: This is a rather daft idea I had a while ago and really would like to play, He still has all the same ability scores, spells, ability to speak etc he just has the size and appearance of a cat. This will cause some issues with acquiring magical items but the gem he used as an arcane focus will certainly spiff up his collar.

Reminds me of Puss in Boots from the Shrek series played by Antonio Banderas. Standing upright, wielding a rapier like a tabaxi, but the size of a housecat.
I'd assume you're considered Tiny, right. That would give you the ability to move through Medium enemies' spaces.
As an egg, I was stolen from my tropical paradise by a racist adventurer named Malavadore Lordun who was hell-bent on looting priceless artifacts from my homeland. My people drove him back, but he managed to steal a clutch of eggs, and incubating it in the laboratory of the college that bore his name. I was the subject of dangerous and painful experiments until my fourth birthday, when I began to talk and the faculty of the college forced Lordun to release me, realizing I wasn't a "beast". The college was my only home until I accidentally blew the arm off a fellow student in a failed experiment and was expelled and banished under the threat of death.

I'd go for Small size so as not to break things too much.
So as not to derail the thread completely I'll just post a link to steamforged games who actually do a "campaign setting" of D&D which would actually make this character possible, look for animal adventures and cats & catacombs....
A former mercenary left for dead by former comrades.
Eased back to health by a travelling herbalist until he was able to venture out alone.
Now trying to rebuild his life his former life resurfacing gradually despite his injuries left him looking nothing like he had been as far as he can recall.
I was once an ordinary kid, just like everyone else, but around my 13th birthday I suddenly manifested powers that immediately set me apart from everyone else. A few months later a bald man in a wheelchair came to visit my family and offered to take me to his school for “Gifted Youngsters” to train me how to control and even harness my newfound powers. Now, I am part of an elite team that works to save the world from those who would abuse their gifts.

This is pretty open-ended for the DM to fill in
1) What fief is Lady Paulina a Lady of?
2) What is Launcelot's holy quest?
3) What evil threatens Lady Paulina?
1. (in a campaign where magic was nullified)
When the elves lost their connection to ancient magic, they became mundane like everyone else.
The elves became exploited, and like so many of them, Shaelu became enslaved…
…without magic, Shaelu earned her freedom the old-fashioned way.
2.
Trip ran away from an orphanage when he was young.
Instead, he grew up in a cemetery.
When he was lonely; he looked to his god to keep him company.
3.
Lyria wasn’t like other dwarves.
She loved art, stories, and music as much as she liked drinking & fighting.
She became an adventurer so she could do both.
4.
Declan Stein had always been fascinated by magical artifacts.
He had inherited such a mysterious artifact from his ancestor, a famous archeologist.
He seeks to find them, study them, and collect them.
5. (fairly new one)
Kasamir was born a dhampir.
His mother was a paladin, and taught him the virtues of humanity.
His oath of devotion keeps his Hunger in check.
Bad Moon learned to steal, sing and gamble for his meals as a stray Tabaxi kitten in the slums of Port Nyanzaru.
The harbormaster's son was a terrible cheat in a late night card game, but Bad Moon is an exceptional cheat.
