we now have a full page of content that has almost nothing to do with the summit. There are other threads for such topics. please, try to get back on track.
This went off topic page 1. I think there are only 6 post that are on topic. This may be because no one who was at the summit has posted any YouTube videos about the summit. I read about it on EN World and that’s all the info I got and that’s from one perspective. I didn’t bother with news from people who weren’t there. Even if their information is mostly correct they aren’t journalist so it comes off as rumor videos and they give a lot of their personal opinions so I can’t watch those for very long.
Pretty much this. There isn't much else to say about the summit. The content creators derailed things over the OGL. Some hints on what they are doing with a few classes was put out. VTT was discussed, but WOTC couldn't answer any questions on. That's about it.

the "baby pact" and its implications was at least loosely tied to the summit.
There is some of the minecraft dnd content to discuss, the insistence on "5e Revised" and the implications around it, the vtt content, there the whole derailment and the issues it brought up.
in particular, I really think 5e revised is a kid and streamer friendly "5e light". They did a survey a while back(the PHB review surveys) to see if 5e was ready for a new edition. They have at least some data on the topic. my guess is a new edition didn't have quite enough support...so they changed marketing instead. Realistically a rose (or pile of crap) by any other name will still smell as sweet.
and wotc is still insisting 2014 is a valid part of the game. will most players accept such a mix? will most dms be happy if a player insists on PHB ranger, wild mage, twilight cleric etc or will they just FIAT it? will such classes even continue to be viable if support(items, statblocks, rules and adventure design) is shutdown. by calling it the same it really feels like planned obsolescence via updates and errata.

I think that is a farce. They are making changes to balance things it makes 0 sense to then allow the unbalanced things in the game.

They’ve been allowing unbalanced things into the game for the past 9 years, why should next year be any different?
and I really think they expect two groups to emerge a group that enjoys normal 5e and their kid/stream/light dnd version. This would allow an easy entry point into dnd while still feeding the groups that want more. However marketing it as exactly the same feels like a FLOP or is trying to force updates that may not go over presented another way.
There's literally a mechanic built in for this: You can CHOOSE to NOT FOLLOW IT, (dm discretion), but RAW, this is a thing. and exists. and has an ACTUAL MECHANIC built in for it.
I am a bit late to this topic of conversation but I wanted to give my thoughts anyways: I have no idea whether or not this qualifies as a mechanic, but it is phrased as a guideline. Typically, rules say if X happens, Y happens. However, this is completely up to the DM's discretion on what counts as a violation of the Paladin's oath, and whether or not they want to use this optional tool. The rule explicitly says:
"At the DM’s discretion, an impenitent paladin might be forced to abandon this class and adopt another, or perhaps to take the Oathbreaker paladin option that appears in the Dungeon Master’s Guide."
All of the rules are guidelines, but this so far more than others since it is clearly up to the Dungeon Master and is obviously optional. By not using this, you are not choosing to ignore a full on solid and clear mechanic. You are choosing to ignore a rough toolbox for things Dungeon Masters can do if something has happened that doesn't work for their campaign.
The fact that most people seem to not play Paladins this way and that some Paladins don't even have an oath and are flavored differently combine to make this semi-mechanic something that should be talked about in Session Zero.
Also, yes, the Dungeon Master can do whatever they want (Rule Zero), and the book does establish that Paladins who break their Oaths may face character class or subclass changes. However, this can still be a source of issues in groups, which is why the sidebar should clarify that this is a Session Zero thing!

lol, true. But even for them designing a new wizard that they nerf to balance it with other classes and then say hey go ahead in the new game use the old wizard makes no sense.

its designed to be fast and use simple language. Starting with default suggestions over customization. a described goal of reduction of choices. distilling archetypes down to basic choices. that sounds lighter to me.
Maybe its not a "rules light system" but it is lighter than current 5e. especially since they are insisting the 2014 part still exists.

I wouldn't really expect mix and match within categories, but 'adventures written for 5e work for revised, adventures written for revised work for 5e' is more compatible than 3e to 3.5e.

I don't have exact quotes but they had some specific answers about compatibility and I remember a second hand indicator that 5e and 5eR classes will be compatible within groups. if anyone can post summit Q&A responses I would love it.

kinda makes you wonder why they don't split into an "Advanced" and "Basic" again so they can continue to sell books with new subclasses but also continue to narrow down wizard schools and grappling rules or whatever.

Oh, it's definitely possible from what we've seen so far, but I don't expect most groups will actually choose to do things that way.
We haven’t seen the warrior and mage groups yet but from what we have seen so far I don’t think there is any issue mixing and matching 5E characters with 5ER characters. Putting two bards, one from each “rule set” would work fine. Same for rangers and rogues and clerics and paladins. UA Druids need some work to make it a viable option to play alongside a 5E class.
I could completely see, from what has been released so far, tables using the revised rules but allowing a 5E base class/subclass combo that isn’t part of the initial release of the PHB at the table. Since only 4 subclasses each will be released in the PHB.

Half of Crawford’s Sage Advice rulings don’t make sense either. What’s your point?
May expectation on how they blend 2014 classes with revised classes is with Errata to features and a statement that if a new version of a spell exist you must use the most current version. You want to Play 5e Paladin fine. You still only divine smite once per turn. Smite spells with the same name as new smite spells have to use the new spells. So the 5e version isn’t stronger than new version just has a different spell list and gets its abilities at different levels. Want to be a 5e Bard cool. Well you get you Jack of all trades earlier and a different spell list. You don’t get to know all the spells available to bard and prepare them, but you get to pick from the bard list most people like. At higher levels once a 5e Bard and a revised bard both have magical secrets the revised bard is going to have more options each day. The bigger question will be if they would allow multi classing between 5e and revised characters. I would suspect that’s a hard no, but we won’t know until the give us more information.

I doubt they'll make any changes to 2014 classes. If they're just going to revise the original options, it wouldn't make sense to say that they'll be the original options.

They will not leave the original Paladin with the new new more balanced Paladin. It would be foolish. There would be no incentive on playing the new Paladin when the old one can smite every attack. They could just stop wasting their time and money on these UAs. They would be meaningless if they allow the past classes and spells to continue without some errata.
My understanding (and I don't recall where it came from to be honest) was that there would be guidelines provided to blend/convert 5.0 with 5.5 content when necessary
