It is a fairly popular class that specialises in crafting and is associated with the Eberron setting.
There was a version released a couple of years ago, as part of the Unearthed Arcana playtest rules. An updated version is due to be published next month.
I hope that they changed the four things I had a problem with: Automatically gaining Magic Items at specific levels, not getting 5th level spells, way too powerful Thunder Cannon, and having the Mechanical Servant as a base Class Feature instead of a 1st Level Feature for a third Specialization (come on guys.... Alchemist, Smith, Engineer). Regardless, I expect that whatever they put out will likely be good enough for me to include it in my Ravnica Campaigns.
Want, like really want but with that said I want. Now this part is for anyone that may know, If Artificer is a full class will it get its own forum like the other classes?
I am just thinking that if it is received well it can be thrown into the Eberron book once the survey part has been reviewed and that would be like 2 months after release or around that time as I am not sure how long WotC takes to review said surveys.
I wonder if the Superior Attunement feature is part of the revised Artificer, which would be nice, since that means probably means we will able to manipulate the maximum number of attuned items a PC can have.
I for one am pumped to see the Artificer come back in D&D. I'm running a campaign where "technomancy" is coming back, for better or for worse. I already have Warforged making appearances, so having an artificer class fits my campaign very, very nicely.
I'm really hoping that the spell list will be adjusted to a more offensive type (I mean, come on! Magic weapon is the only spell that could possibly deal damage.)
When I think artificer, I think of an Izzet technician from Ravnica. Those guys are pretty awesome.

Devious serpent folk devoid of compassion, yuan-ti manipulate other creatures by arousing their doubts, evoking their fears, and elevating and crushing their hopes. From remote temples in jungles, swamps, and deserts, the yuan-ti plot to supplant and dominate all other races and to make themselves gods.

This, and if they don't, I will give all Artificers in my campaigns the Izzet League Guild Spells anyway. Exploding, Chaos Bolting, Cackling, Death-Defying, Mad Scientist Goblins.
Because it goes into UA and D&D Beyond makes all UA content accessible within the following week, is the Artificer going to be able to on D&D Beyond to create characters with?

That is the plan.
Exactly how long it takes to add it will depend on the complexity of the mechanics though.

FREAKING HECK YES!!!!!!!!!
Now, this may not be an answerable/relevant question. But would making this class for D&D Beyond give anymore insight on how to make homebrew classes functional? Or are they completely unrelated developments?

Here's the link to the Unearthed Arcana article:

It will take a few working days to get the new Artificer up on D&D Beyond.
It will be announced when it is live though, both on these forums and on twitter.

Ooh, nice! Can’t wait to see what it is. Sounds fun, so far everything from Ebberon has been great in my opinion.

Just a guess, but it's only UA so it wouldn't get such a thing until actually published. There's an Unearthed Arcana forum to talk about UA material. :)

I am wondering how fast it will be incorporated into the WGtE, as that came out then the races came out for UA after the wayfinders release.

That's not something I can answer - probably a question best asked on the weekly Dev Q&A stream.
