Exactly. You know how you had your hunch about Planescape because of all of the planar related UAs? Well, why would they be trying so hard with a 4th attempt at 5e Psionics if they weren’t planning on actually needing it. Remember my last two hunches? Remember I called it then? I got another hunch. My hunch is, either:
They know that Planescape will inevitably require them to at least touch on Dark Sun, so they have to have something ready. And if it does well, we might get a Dark Sun.
OR:
They’re already thinkin’ real hard on doing Dark Sun.
I don't think that they're going to have the psionic subclasses and spells in the planescape book/Xanathar's 2.0
They're saving them for a Dark Sun campaign setting book.
Remember the first 3ish years of 5e when everyone was complaining that Forgotten Realms was the only campaign setting?
I think they learned from their mistake and are going all in to the campaign settings.
Look at the recent books, we have Eberron: Rising from the Last War, Explorer's Guide to Wildemount, Mythic Odysseys of Theros, and probably a Planescape book.
I think they want to do Dark Sun. If they're testing stuff for it now, I'd guess that it comes out in a year to a 18 months (similar timeline to the CV-19 vaccine)

Similar to halflings, but with the personality of a small child and a mad streak of kleptomania. From what I can gather, people either love them or hate them with no middle ground in between.
Mostly it's just me amusing myself with the fact we've gotten all these UA's pointing to a Planescape or Dark Sun book coming up, and wondering what if the new UA was something that completely diverged from all that.

This last UA screams Dark Sun where the summoning spells yes they say planescape I just have a gut feeling for Dark Sun.
It's not just the Summoning UA that screams UA, it's all of the subclasses recently that have been planescape themed. Oath of the Watchers Paladin, Noble Genie Warlock, Lurker in the Deep Warlock, Revived Rogue, Fey Wanderer Ranger, Swarmkeeper Ranger, Onoumancer Wizard, Clockwork Sorcerer, Beast Barbarian, Twilight Cleric, Wildfire Druid, Stars Druid, Astral Self Monk, and Wild Magic Barbarian.
There's been a ton of planescape-themed subclasses and spells to the point that I don't think there's any way it is just a coincidence. Xanathar's 2.0 is probably going to be at least planescape themed.

a lot of the subclasses listed there are related to the planes, but not all of them, lurker of the deep is specifically with things still very much in the material plane unlike great old one, the revived rouge has nothing to do with the planes and no memories of the afterlife, just of their former life, the beast barbarian is litterallly just channeling their inner animal and maybe you could argue fey influence but that is only one of the possibilities, twilight cleric has to do with darkness and protection, the swarmkeepers swarm is fey but other than that they havenot much planar influence, and the stars druid has nothing to do with the planes

I hope you’re right, I just hope they give us a proper Psionicist.
Edit: and PC Thri-kreen
also if we get an psion class, i hope they will actually stick to their guns and use the lore for the diffrent orders that they have created just for this edition instead of using stuff from older editions becuase this new shit rocks, i wanna be using nomad, immortal or wu jen disiplinces, not "metacreativity" and "metametabolisim" powers like they called it before
also was it not the half giant who introduced the "powerful build" mechanic used for a lot of player races where they are treated as both large an medium?
Right, and Dark Sun REQUIRES Psionics.

Yeah, no Psionics, no Dark Sun. Like, no Artificer, no Eberron. I mean, they could do it, but everyone would freak out and riot online.

If the next UA is a PC Thri-kreen, we’ll have a pretty good idea what’s next.

Right. In high school I had a buddy played gnomes that way. The group banned gnomes because of it. I’m just not connecting that to Thri-kreen.

Yeah. I seriously doubt it.
They haven't been playtesting races recently, it's been awhile, but we could expect a change if it include Thri-Kreen, and half-giants.

I still have stronger feelings for Dark Sun coming then Planescape, but time will tell what will be next.
Why don't you think Planescape is coming?
