I mean, if any Warlock subclass was going to get animate dead, you would think this would be the one. (yeah I know CFV) On the upside, the dude who wanted to sleep in his bag of holding would be able to pull it off with this subclass.
Feature resets on 1d4 long rests... is that a new mechanism?

If they took Pact of the Chain and Aspect of the Moon they wouldn’t have to. 😂
There’s Form of Dread using Proficiency bonus again for # of Uses. Makes a 1 level dip for Warlock even more of a problem. 🙄 Perfect for a Whispers Bard.

As long as you don't mind avg 7 hit points. I see the draw of tying to proficiency bonus. It is a very nice scale for a low-level ability. I take what I assume is your point about preferring to tie it to class level, which this feature also does in a meaningful way.
**** yes the collage of spirits is so damm cool, an bard that embraces the storytelling and loremastery aspects of the bard, one also proficient in the art of divination and necromancy, my personal two favorite schools? And you get to have fun telling stories, and you get an really fun combat gimmic that is decently powerful too? Like it feels way too overpowered and like the best thing ever and like it was made for me specifically, you really get all the fancy divination tricks, the augury, the divination, the communes, commune w nature, once you are 15th level you get to clone yourself completely for free, all of it. Oh and it also feels delightfully druidic, something the bard has Always been, i love this, i really really do. Oh and this is perfect for an aasimar whose spirit guide is the source of all these tales **** this is the best subclass i really love it it is the best
Oh shit yeah also Free guidance cantrip that shit should have been on there from the start it makes such sense for the bard as like an miniature bardic inspiration and oh god i love this so ******* much

The Temp HP aside, the other two bullet points are still very viable.
Once during each of your turns, when you hit a creature with an attack, you can force it to make a Wisdom saving throw, and if the saving throw fails, the target is frightened of you until the end of your next turn.
The spell selection is a bit meh though. I have to think they intentionally skipped any of the undead minion spells for this subclass. It's a shame because the warlock is almost a decent necromancer except for that crucial detail.
Okay, I like the flavor of both these subclasses. They just scream Ravenloft to me (maybe Xanathar's 2.0/Planescape will be narrated by a Vistani, like I have suggested before).
The Spirits Bard is kind of strange. I had thought of doing a random table based on Bardic Inspiration before for a homebrew subclass, but ended up deciding that it wasn't something I wanted to have for it. Kind of strange that they did it here. The table is strange, but most of the results seem good.
The Undead Warlock is just crapping on the Undying warlock, which I'm honestly fine with. It seems a bit powerful, but I like it. Now, you can actually have a pact with Strahd or Vecna without being the worst warlock subclass in the game. I do think the last ability is strange. I would personally like this warlock to focus more on corporeal undead than incorporeal, but it is a nice ability (too bad it doesn't let you cast hex in the incorporeal form). IMHO, Hexblades should focus on incorporeal undead and spirits, while this should focus on the fleshy undead.

IMHO, Warlocks are some of the best Necromancers going (aside from one of my homebrews).
This suggests that the book this will be published in is far off. An early playtest. That means more is coming.
Remember when WotC mentioned that they're going to put Vistani in 2 upcoming books. With the Spirits Bards, whatever book this goes in will definitely be one of the Vistani featuring books.
Maybe these UA will not make their way into Xanathar's 2.0? They could be playtests for a Ravenloft or Innistrad setting. It could explain why there are only 2 subclasses in this UA, as Setting books typically only have 2-3 subclasses in them. Both M:tG settings only had two subclasses. To me, this points to Innistrad.
Anyone else had similar thoughts?
Or, I could just be reading too much into it.

It needs adjusting for sure, but Undying is sooo bad that WotC really needs to make this subclass to make up for it. It needs Animate Dead and similar spells for certain and I think drop the extra necrotic damage for a straight swapping of damage type.

Well, we finally got the Unearthed Arcana Subclasses Part 4. Here's the link:
https://dnd.wizards.com/articles/unearthed-arcana/subclasses-part-4
I haven't looked through it yet, but I will post later with my thoughts.
Please check out my homebrew, I would appreciate feedback:
Spells, Monsters, Subclasses, Races, Arcknight Class, Occultist Class, World, Enigmatic Esoterica forms
So there'll be warlock subclasses confusingly called The Undying and The Undead? That's going to make things quite... tense.
Edit: Am I having a stroke, or does the level 6 warlock feature really move Eldritch Blast from 4d10 force to 8d10 necrotic?
I like that the Spirit College Bard stays very support oriented
and yeah, the undeath patron warlock kinda steps on the toes of the undying warlock.
Truth be told, I kind of like some things in Undeath, but it sounds powerful
Ooooo, very Halloween-y
The Bard is interesting but I am not overly excited about it. The Undead is a better option than the Undying and hope that it makes it to a book.

Seems Ravenloft-y to me. The Bard Spiritual Focus mentions the Torakka Deck.

The theme of the Bard subclass seems like it would fit a Warlock better, and the theme of the Warlock feels like it would fit a Sorcerer better IMHO.

Not a huge fan of the warlock, for me the mechanics feel kind of uninteresting (also 8d10 eldritch blast?)
I quite like the bard though on the whole.
