OK I'm helping my friend who's new to D&D make a new character for the 1st time.
He doesn't really know what he wants so I suggested that he chooses 6 different class/race combinations and then we post on D&D Beyond and then we'll see which one is liked the most and he says ok that's fine so here we are.
You can make this a poll if you want, although I think you'd have to create a new thread to do it (the 'Add a Poll' button is just below the bottom left-hand corner of the text box)
I personally think a lizardfolk artificer who leans more biotech to build on their Cunning Artisan feature might be fun

Active characters:
Carric Aquissar, elven wannabe artist in his deconstructionist period (Archfey warlock) Lan Kidogo, mapach archaeologist and treasure hunter (Knowledge cleric) Mardan Ferres, elven private investigator obsessed with that one unsolved murder (Assassin rogue) Xhekhetiel, halfling survivor of a Betrayer Gods cult (Runechild sorcerer/fighter)

Could make it like the Iron Giant. "I am not a sword", but then their programming gets triggered...

Go to HeroForge and start building a character. Don't think about class or even necessarily race/species - just build, and come up with something cool that you're jazzed to flesh out more. Once you've built out that character? Oftentimes you'll have reasons in mind for a lot of the pieces you picked, and you'll discover that you've kinda built up a light little narrative in your head about who this person you've just sculpted from the digital clay is. Use that to guide your choices.
Dunno if the friend involved here will like that idea. It's more involved than chucking a few d6s or Polling the Audience. But it can sometimes be a really neat way of figuring out what your subconscious feels like playing - just see what looks awesome and cool and like someone you'd really like to figure out more about and then play that guy.

I also think a Lizardfolk Artificer who makes Leatherpunk constructs sounds cool.
Canto alla vita
alla sua bellezza
ad ogni sua ferita
ogni sua carezza!
I sing to life and to its tragic beauty
To pain and to strife, but all that dances through me
The rise and the fall, I've lived through it all!
Angry Robot does sound kinda fun…
”Exterminate!” (Enters rage.)
Could make it like the Iron Giant. "I am not a sword", but then their programming gets triggered...

Goblin Wizard sounds fun to me.
I've played a Warforged Bear Totem Barb...yeah DM's tend to hate you when you do that. But no, it's a fun mix.
They're all good options. Might I suggest, since there are six of them...roll a d6 to choose?
Sounds about right lol.

Please do not contact or message me.
I will also do the above with google image search, just a generic search for "D&D character" or something and scroll around.
But from that list, the lizardfolk gets my wheels turning the most. Could be a real unique spin on the artificer.
