I know people at Gen Con who wanted the early PHB release have it by now!
Anyone see something on line where someone is showing it off or reviewing it?
The best thing I found was this YT video by the Dungeon Dudes that breaks down the new PHB, but I skipped through and it doesn’t look like there’s any visuals.
EDIT: shows off the book with a big blurry block covering most of the pages 😕. Hasbro told him he had to cover 75% of the pages after he made the video because they were worried people would take screen shots of the video and stitch together the book….
Yeah I started reading the comments section and saw other people saying they were asked the same thing.
I suppose I have to understand that there are people who have software out there that can probably stitch together the entire players handbook, who are going to take advantage of putting together some crummy version of the 2024 PHB to play using the updated rules for free…. But couldn’t this have been avoided by telling people in ADVANCE? This poor guy made an entire video and then right before he released it Hasbro put new stipulations on what could be shown.
People are already pissed off them, they don’t need further reasons to draw out more public ire.

They only received the new restrictions yesterday, 2 days after the original NDA lifted by which point creators had already posted their videos.
This wasn't a case of Sly Flourish going through the entire book for people to stitch together, his review didn’t even cover the classes or almost any of the spells. He focused on the plain rules, which make up less than 10% of the book, most of which are unchanged from the already available Basic Rules and the Creative Commons.

1: They gave the phb to like 100 YouTubers told em wait till august 1st to talk about it
2: Won't release the srd with phb 2024 rules till febuary 12th 2025
3: Have a huge as heck water mark that covers 2 pages on all 348 pages with the YouTubers name to make sure they don't just upload rules on the net
4: Release the phb at Gen Con only 3000 copies at an event with 75 mill and you have to sign up for permission to get in line.
5: And now videos are being reported for 'revealing the rules too soon'
So how this helping make ppl wanna play new rules?
2: Won't release the srd with phb 2024 rules till febuary 12th 2025
Makes sense because things from the monsters manual and DMG will be part of the SRD, so they cant release it till its all out.
3: Have a huge as heck water mark that covers 2 pages on all 348 pages with the YouTubers name to make sure they don't just upload rules on the net
This is common when sending out confidental documents, hell even alot of companies watermark PDFs they sell
4: Release the phb at Gen Con only 3000 copies at an event with 75 mill and you have to sign up for permission to get in line.
well it was called a LIMITED release, and there was only about 70K there not Million. As for the ticket to be able to buy it at GenCon, having an event ticket to do it is so much better, all big exclusives release events should do it this way. It helps with crowd control in the venders hall, and lets you know right away in the morning if you have to go wait in a line or not.
5: And now videos are being reported for 'revealing the rules too soon'
We do not know any details of what is going on and why the videos were flagged.

I got confused for a minute because 75 milllion is 10 million more than the entire population of the UK, never realised GenCon was so popular
WotC approached the creators unsolicited in hopes of them showcasing their new book. PDF receivers signed an NDA and got instructions of what not to show, while physical book receivers just got the book with the only guidance given to wait until August 1st to "post material from inside the book" which many took to mean actually being able to show the physical book. They gave no other guidance or restrictions until Saturday, 2 days after the videos were already posted. Hasbro's D&D Creator Team Relations had emailed them with new rules stating they weren't able to show more than 75% of the page on a two-page spread.
In Sly Flourish's case, given every other publisher he previously worked with has been more than happy for him to preview their books, that's exactly what he did complying with WotC's original instructions. Fair use exists for criticism and review, and the flip through of very limited sections of this book (both quantitatively in terms of pages and qualitatively by avoiding the key character creation options entirely), was fair. If WotC didn't want more than 75% of any given page shown then they should've said so in advance, not change their minds days after the fact.
EDIT: Good news for some of the creators who had their videos striked, WotC are now releasing their copyright claim.

Judging by that edit this sounds like yet another case of WOTC's left hand not knowing what the right hand is doing, their legal department clamped down on copyright with what their marketing department thought would be a good way to drum up attention

It's possible that they put the PHB into YouTube's automated scanner, because they assumed that somebody would post a video of nothing but every page in the PHB, in as high a resolution as possible, which is an entirely reasonable assumption.
And then, because YT's scanner is aggressive as all hell, it flagged a lot more than that, and now they're fixing it.
Is that necessarily how it happened? No, but the timing makes it pretty likely IMO. The cycle's too short for public outcry to be making them change their policy, especially since GenCon just ended.

Also probably why you shouldn't get rid of your experienced marketing professionals only just a couple of months before your biggest product launch in a decade. I suppose we can be thankful legal didn't jump straight to the Pinkertons this time around.

Jorphdan had a company rep look into it, he suspects it was a miscommunication between departments at Hasbro.

He's not the only one that's had to redact their video, it looks like WotC's Lawyers are going after those flipping through the book.

Making people want what they can’t have? Haha jk. I think it is the result of people not getting organized. Just my guess anyway.
