Does anybody know any discord servers dedicated to old school dnd such as the basic to expert sets or the becmi Basic sets. Looking for a discord server that hosts games as I really wanna scratch that old school dnd itch. Any information would be appreciated.

I'm referring to the d&d basic sets, i.e. B/X (basic to expert set) or the becmi basic boxes (basic, expert, companion, master, immortal), published in 1983.

You can find all the 1e AD&D sourcebooks as pdfs, I know many players would like to try the original game out. I advise AD&D because it is THE direct ancestor of modern D&D.
I don't support pirating D&D sourcebooks, ESPECIALLY modern ones, but I think with the really old stuff it is a bit more acceptable.
I thought he was talking about pre AD&D like the red box set, but I'm not so sure with "Companion, Master & Immortal".
As for me, AD&D all the way!! Elves, Humans, Dwarves, Half-Elves and Half-Orcs (none of this crazy Dragonborn stuff). Bards are in the appendix. Roll a new character just after you finish drawing a good picture of your current character. The good ol' days, when we erased through the paper tracking HP. ... when wandering monsters might TPK.

He was talking about D&D, but TSR supported D&D 1e and AD&D 1e simultaneously and then supported D&D 2e and AD&D 2e simultaneously until the mid-late ‘90s:
I'm sure some in this discussion remember the differences, but 1E and AD&D definitely have some differences. Hello Elves! Hey Druids! But most of the time, I remember the AD&D rules better... I wouldn't say it was streamlined, but it was more organized than 1E.
D&D 1e and 2e Elves, Dwarves, and Halflings were classes. It wasn’t until AD&D that they started the race+class system.
I could be wrong but I believe in the original books, class and race were separate. It was the Basic Set (red box) that turned the 3 demi-human races into classes.

NOOOOO the red box had races as classes. AD&D introduced race +class.

If you’re gonna go AD&D, I would personally recommend AD&D2e.

I started in 2e and then quickly moved to AD&D2e. I’m a “slightly younger old schooler.”

he is talking about D&D not AD&D. My first game was on Basic. Man I should read the rules again, though I doubt I remember the differences.

well gees, it costs $10 to confirm
https://www.drivethrurpg.com/product/28306/ODD-Dungeons--Dragons-Original-Edition-0e
price should be discounted since they were too lazy to even put the book in the right page order.
