Hey all, so I'm trying to make a spell that uses both a bonus action and action in one turn, i.e., the bonus action spell triggers the second spell cast using the action.
The idea behind this is to 'mark' a certain target ally and then the second spell will damage a targeted enemy, and the damage dealt to the enemy will heal the marked ally. https://vlc****
Is there a way i can make a single spell that uses both the bonus action and action? My solution thus far is to have made two separate spells and in the description of the first state that it triggers the second, and in the description of the second stating that it cannot be cast alone. The only other way I can think of this is to make a single spell that just states in the description it also uses the action on a turn? I don't know if there is a less finicky and weird way of configuring this or making this if anyone can help? 0.o
Like my response to the same question on reddit, you need to set the activation time to Special. That way the person knows to look at the description text to see the details about what is going on. It is not possible to make something an Action and a Bonus Action using dndbeyond other than it just being in the description text.
There already is a spell that functions similarly: wither and bloom That spell is only one action to cast for both the damaging and healing effect. There is really no need for a spell that is split through action economy like you have it. I am not saying it is a bad idea, just very unconventional. If it is to limit the spells power you could tone down the potency or increase the ressource cost in spell level

Olloray Dim - Limbo's Pit
Gunther Korroden - Nightmares in the Mist
There are already spells that require a bonus action to cast and an action to activate: branding smite, dragon’s breath, etc. just make it like those.
