The ancient archive of Vel Doran was recently uncovered; you were sent into it to try to uncover and translate its manuscripts. An avalanche promptly covered the entrance, and your camp was out there. The erudites of the Diamond Mind that dropped you also told you they’d be back here in two months. Not much else to do but take a seat and start reading…
Among these (surprisingly intact) manuscripts you will find countless dungeons and dragons 5th edition homebrew, from spells to dungeon master tools. These are created by myself, and can be used by all.
Inspired by Wizards of the Coast’s Unearthed Arcana and Yamana_Eaji’sMystic Experimentation Notes and HomebrewMindFlayer’sCandlekeep’s Secret Scrolls (go check them out, the content there is super good!), I have decided to create a post by post UA-type D&D homebrew thread, showing off some of my stuff!
I do not yet have a survey, but am planning on having one.
My posts will usually consist of a piece of new homebrew that I’ve created (post the creation of this thread) and one or two pieces of older homebrew (previous the creation of this thread).
Those are great! I am glad you’ve decided to make this, your stuff is great.

This isn't actually a signature, just something I copy and paste onto the bottom of all my posts. Or is it? Yep, it is. Or is it..? I’m a hobbit, and the master cranial imploder of the "Oops, I Accidently Destroyed Someone's Brain" cult. Extended sig. I'm actually in Limbo, it says I'm in Mechanus because that's where I get my WiFi from. Please don't tell the modrons, they're still angry from the 'Spawning Stone' fiasco. No connection to Dragonslayer8 other than knowing them in real life.
I like the elemental ranger, but the vortex option at 15 seems way too good. Requiring concentration and only targeting one thing are major limitations of banishment that prevent it from being too crazy powerful. As a DM, when a major creature is banished the primary goal of the remaining enemies typically switches to disrupting the concentration of the banisher.
I get the logic that requiring a STR save is generally less effective than CHA, but it's not enough. I'd require concentration at the least. Even then, it's applying a single target 4th level spell to a huge area and its repeatable prof. bonus times a day. Assuming you can get 3-5 creatures in your 40-foot cone, it's the equivalent of 5-6 uses of a level 6-8 spell slot per day.
If you look at the level 15 abilities of other Ranger subclasses, none of them are game-changers on this level. In fact they are almost universally defensive abilities.

It only works on creatures native to the elemental plane
This is a really cool idea, and a spell I've actually used. However, 1d8 damage is kind of high for all the secondary effect... Maybe only 1d6?
The Dragon:
The last ability to way op (CR 16 dragon for free??) but other than that it's an amazing subclass. I'd limit it to just half warlock level, no plus proficiency.
Song of the Seasons:
SO COOL!!! A++ work! Autumn is fairly powerful, but should be balanced.

My reasoning for Haunting Whisper dealing more damage than it otherwise would is that you have to be within 5 feet of the target in order to use it.
You only get CR 16 at 20th level. at the level it’s gained, you get CR 12. (I should, however, include a clause that restricts legendary actions, resistance, and lairs.)
It's still quite potent, if you consider this is free and the damage can't carry over. Also, it's a 9th level (17+) at 14th level - that's like giving a 1st-level character a bomb and waiting for an explosion. It doesn't quite match the CR range. However, a flying speed and fire breath effect would be cool.

As in when you take damage, it doesn't subtract from your base HP (the creature you become's HP is added to your base HP)

I think you misread Wild Shape. Wild Shape doesn’t subtract from your base HP.
