What changes would everyone make to the Blood Hunter to get it up to 2024 spec? I am planning on integrating any new base class features or changes into the subclasses themselves since DDB still wont let us make our own full classes in HB... but I digress... So obviously 1 or 2 weapon masteries, but what else or is that enough?
Maybe moving up the Blood Order features. Like getting one at 6th level instead of 7th. Then you get another feature at 10th, 14th and 17th levels.
Blood Curses - it (unless I missed it) doesn't allow you to change out Curses. This should be a part of its ability. I'm thinking at level up would be a good addition.
Order of the Ghostslayer - Curse Specialist. I think this should be moved to Blood Hunter in general. I also think it should be either 7th level or 10th level. I think 3rd level is a bit too early.
Order of the Profane - updating on Pact Slots. Probably should follow the Warlock's current pact slot progression, save I do think it should still stop at 4th level spells. An argument could be made for 5th level, like Eldritch Knight.
Brand of Castigation - would be better if it was set up differently. Maybe you get 2 uses of it at 11th level and 3 at 17th level.
Also, are they able to get epic boons at level 19? If not, then that would also be a good addition.
Blood Maladicts : add more uses but have only 1 be restored on a short rest -> use the Druid Wildshape / Cleric Channel Divinity scaling.
Add a new combat-focused feature at level 6 or level 9
A damage-boost at level 11
Buff the 20th level feature
Buff many of the blood curses
Unfortunately, lots of those would be hard to do with subclasses. If doing this through subclasses.....
Brand of Sundering
Starting at 11th level, your Brand of Castigation exposes a fragment of your foe’s essence, leaving them vulnerable to your Crimson Rite feature. Whenever you hit a creature with a weapon for which you have an active crimson rite, you roll an additional hemocraft die when determining the extra damage from the rite. In addition, you can expend a use of your Blood Maledict feature to use your Brand of Castigation.
Give that feature to all subclasses, and allow all subclasses to use their Blood Maledict charges for their Brand of Castigation.
Curse Specialist
Starting at 3rd level, you learn to master blood curses. You gain an additional use of your Blood Maledict feature. In addition, your blood curses can target any creature, whether it has blood or not.
Give that feature to all the subclasses as well.
Add this feature as well:
Hunter's Resilience
Starting at 7th level, when you fail a saving throw against a fey, fiend, or undead, you can roll your hemocraft die and add the value rolled to your save potentially turning the failure into a success. When you use this feature you take necrotic damage equal to twice the value rolled on your hemocraft die, this damage cannot be reduced in any way. Once you've used this feature you cannot use it again until you finish a short or long rest
Subclass specific fixes:
Order of the Ghostslayer:
Add (to replace Curse Specialist since all subclasses get that now):
Esoteric Curses
At 3rd level, you learn one additional Blood Curse, you can change this Blood Curse for another for which you meet the requirements whenever you finish a long rest.
Add (to replace Brand of Sundering since all subclasses get that now):
Soul Binding
At 11th level, when a creature is under the effect of your Brand of Castigation it loses all benefits from any feature that allows it to move through objects (such as Incorporeal Movement) and cannot travel to another plane of existence. In addition, if it willingly moves more than 30 ft from you it must make a Wisdom saving throw against your hemocraft DC, on a failure its speed is reduced to 0 until the start of your next turn.
Order of the Lycan
Add this to their Hybrid Transformation feature:
Predatory Strikes. You can apply your Crimson Rite feature to your unarmed strikes, which you treat as one weapon. You can use Dexterity instead of Strength for the attack and damage rolls of your unarmed strikes, which deal 1d6 bludgeoning or slashing damage (your choice). This damage increases to 1d8 at 11th level. When you hit a creature with one of these unarmed strikes you can cause one of the following, you choose when you hit:
Hamstring: The target's movement speed is reduced by 10 ft until the start of your next turn.
Throw: You push the target 10 ft away from you
Hunger: You gain advantage on the next unarmed strike you make against the same target before the end of your next turn.
And change:
Lycan Regeneration. At the start of each of your turns when you have at least 1 hit point but fewer hit points than half your hit point maximum, you gain hit points equal to 1 + your Constitution modifier (minimum of 1) + one roll of your hemocraft die. If you are in hybrid form, you gain these hit points before you must make the saving throw for your bloodlust.
Profane soul:
Mystic Frenzy
Starting at 7th level, when you use your action to cast a cantrip, you can immediately make one weapon attack as a bonus action. When you take the Attack action, you can replace one of your attacks with casting a cantrip that requires 1 action.
Revealed Arcana (same change for Unsealed Arcana)
At 7th level, your patron grants you the use of a distinctive spell based on your pact. You cast this spell using any pact magic spell slot, and can’t do so again until you finish a long restonce without expending a spellslot once you have done so you can't cast it this way again until you finish a long rest. In addition, you can cast it with any spell slots you have.
Order of the Mutant
Increase the number of mutagens you can create by 1 for the whole table.
Make Strange Metabolism 1/short rest rather than 1/long rest.
These are great ideas! If only we could HB these in DDB :/
You can HB all of these. I was going to do it for you, but HBing Weapon Mastery is incredibly boring since you have to manually add every single weapon as a mastery option.
Can you not add the feat for weapon mastery that has all that baked in?
I think you have to do that at the individual character level, I don't think it's possible to add a feat to a HB subclass. But yes that would be the easiest way to do it... hm.. I could just have the feature say to do that like I did for a different HB...
Ironically the one I changed the most : mutant won't let me share it just yet because of similarities to the original. I'll hopefully get it up tomorrow. Profane Soul I probably won't do, because it will be really hard to change it enough to get it past the censors without breaking it.
I ended up changing a bunch of the mutagens to make it a bit more balanced, and I renamed most of them because it was my personal pet peeve that I could hardly tell what the different mutagens did based on their name.
Hey Agilemind. I attempted to get Rite of the Dawn to work, but it didn't seem to work at all. Can you have a look at that on Order of the Ghostslayer?
Hey Agilemind. I attempted to get Rite of the Dawn to work, but it didn't seem to work at all. Can you have a look at that on Order of the Ghostslayer?
I had a look and the original works identically to my revised version. There just isn't mechanical support for it, you have to track it yourself just as you would any of the other rites.
All of these are taking me to an error page (404 Page not Found)?
The mods blocked all my 2024 subclasses for improper naming convention, I fixed them and resubmitted them for approval but they haven't gotten back to me yet.

Looks great, I fully support this… Agile, are you up for making these using the homebrew editor?
Amazing Agilemind :) Just wanted to say that.

I tried profane soul but the spellcasting is completely impossible at our level of access to the HB system.

Agile, your efforts are really appreciated
