The purpose of this thread is to spread a little bit of fun in the form of a competition! Your task: Create an item of homebrew (see below) that is totally original and makes us go "wow"! The end products will be rated by members of the community, and the victors will create the next Finest Brew contest! The previous contest (linked here) was judged by Thauraeln_The_Bold. The first one (linked here) was judged by Yamana_Eajii. Both contained a multitude of spectacular entries, so I suggest you check them out if you haven't already. Now, onto the important stuff
Timeframe:
Contest entries must be submitted before midnight September 21st. Voting will start September 22nd and will end October 2nd.
Contest categories:
In each Finest Brew contest, there are three categories. These are so that people with skill in creating, say, monsters, don't end up stuck having to make dungeons. Each category is judged separately, and the winners of each category will then be pitted against each other to determine the overall winner. There can only be one entrance per category per account, so we suggest you

Here is my submission for the Player Option category, which I think at least somewhat fits into the energy absorbing/siphoning theme. It is still a work in progress, but wanted to get what I had out and aim to finish it by the time voting commences
Sorcerous Origins: Primordial Spirit
Primordial Spirit
Your power draws upon descendance from one of the four great elder elementals.

Elemental Origin
When you select this sorcerous origin option at 1st level, choose which Elder Elemental you draw your power from. The chosen elemental grants a benefit outlined below. Each option also has a damage type associated with it, which is shown in parentheses.
Primordial Spells
Also at 1st level, you learn two additional spells when you reach certain levels in this class, shown in the Primordial Spells table. Each of these spells count as a sorcerer spell for you, but it doesn’t count against the number of sorcerer spells you know. One spell you learn at each level depends on which Elder Elemental you chose in the Elemental Origin feature

Energy Font
You are able to redirect and focus elemental energies, reducing the damage they do to you and adding to your pool of arcane power. Starting at 6th level, when you take acid, cold, fire, lightning, or thunder damage you can use your reaction to reduce the damage you would take by 1d10+your charisma modifier+your sorcerer level. If the damage is reduced to 0, you regain one sorcery point. You can use this feature a number of times equal to your Charisma modifier and regain all uses following a long rest.
Starting at 18th level, whenever you use this feature you always regain one sorcery point and can regain a second sorcery point by reducing the damage you would take to 0.
Planar Channeling
Also at 6th level, your connection to the elemental planes allows you to siphon some of its power to strengthen your spellcasting. Whenever you use the Ready action to cast a sorcerer spell of 1st level or higher which deals the damage type associated with your origin, that spell is treated as being cast one level higher than the slot expended (to a maximum of 9th level).
A spell cannot be upcast this way to a level which exceeds the maximum level of spell slot available to you. For example, when you get this feature at 6th level, you could use it to upcast a 1st level spell to 2nd or 3rd level (if using a 2nd level spell slot), but you could not use it to upcast the spell to 4th level (even if a 3rd level spell slot was expended).
Elemental Form
At 14th level, you can use your action to expend 2 sorcery points to transform your body into an elemental form for 1 minute. For the duration, you gain the following benefits:
This feature ends early if you are incapacitated. You can choose to end it early using your action
Primordial Supremacy
Your connection to your elemental ancestry fully matures. At 18th level, once per turn you can apply a metamagic option you know to a spell which deals the damage type associated with your elemental origin without expending sorcery points.
Additionally, when a creature that you can see within 60 feet of you casts a spell, you can use your reaction to expend sorcery points to apply one of your known metamagic options to that spell. When you do so, you can choose to force the original caster to make a saving throw using its spellcasting ability against your spell save DC. On a failed save, you take control of the spell and are treated as its caster. You can select a different target for the spell within its range. You cannot use this feature to target a spell which deals force, necrotic, psychic, or radiant damage.

Just had a funny idea for a magic item and gonna throw it in here as my submission for the DM category

For this part, I'd actually recommend doing Tremorsense instead of blindsight because it does exactly what you want it to do, plus allows the player to potentially feel things underground.

As for the contest itself, I'm going to change things up a bit and use one of my homebrew spells for my player option this time;

That was the idea, but the issue is that as far as I know tremorsense is a monster-only sight. IIRC it is not referenced in the PHB, so it would be hard for a player to find details about what it means. On the other hand, blindsight is referenced in the players handbook and is used with special limitations for the Blind Fighting fighting style. To use tremorsense I would have to name it and exactly define it for the player using the subclass because a player would not see "tremorsense" and be able to figure out what that is using the PHB.
A player with only this subclass and the PHB can say "Oh, I have blindsight + some limitations" and look up blindsight in the PHB and know exactly what the entire scope of the ability is without me having to also type the specific benefits of blindsight into the subclass feature.
I do think adding the ability to see creatures underground would be a good addition

I just doubled checked because I swore it was in the PHB and I found the different sense in chapter 8 and yeah... it's not there. Confused on why It's not, but it isn't.

Yeah, its weird. I am tempted just to define tremorsense because it does make more sense, but I like having things tied to what is available to the player and want to streamline it to not be too wordy

Life Bond
4th-level necromancy
Casting Time: 1 action
Range: 120 feet
Components: V, S, M (a vial of blood)
Duration: Concentration, 1 minute
You bond your soul to that of another creature. As an action, you may force one creature within range to make a Charisma saving throw against your spell save DC. A creature can choose to fail this save.
On a failed save, you and the target are intrinsically bonded. You can speak telepathically with the target as long as you are both on the same plain of existence as if you shared a common language. Neither you nor the target can make further weapon or spell attacks against each other, and neither of you can willingly move more than 120 feet away from each other.
In addition, as a bonus action on each of your turns while the spell is active, you can force the target to repeat their Charisma saving throw, taking 4d10 necrotic damage on a failure, or ending the spell on themselves on a success. If the creature failed its save, you then gain a number of hit points equal to half the damage the creature took.
At Higher Levels. When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 5th-level or higher, the necrotic damage dealt by the spell increases by 1d10 per spell slot level after 4th. Also, when cast from a spell slot of 7th-level or higher, the spell's duration becomes 10 minutes. If cast from a spell slot of 9th-level, the spell doesn't require concentration for that casting.
Classes: Cleric, Warlock
Player Option. Vampiric enough? It's very quickly done, but hopefully it should be better for upcasting than most spells (When you get to 9th level, people will rather cast wish than fireball, even though both are great options - this spell tries to stand up to higher level spells).

I'm going try to make something for all three categories, but here's my submission for the DM one.
Higher Invisibility. The emotion giant is invisible, even to creatures with truesight or see invisibility. However, it is visible to creatures that are charmed or frightened.
Psionic Giant. Each time the emotion giant is subjected to the charmed condition, the frightened condition, or an enchantment spell, its size increases by 1. Its dimensions double, its current hit points and hit point maximum increase by half, and its Soul Twister attack does an additional 1d6 damage. This change lasts until the emotion giant takes psychic damage.
Multiattack. The emotion giant makes two soul twister attacks.
Soul Twister. Melee Spell Attack: +7 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 14 (3d6 + 4) psychic damage, and the target must make a DC 15 Charisma saving throw. On a failed save, roll a d4 and consult the table below.
Description
An emotion giant is a strand of chaotic whimsy originating from the Feywild. Though it's invisible to most creatures, to those who can see it, it appears as an intangible specter that flickers between different hues.
All stars fade. Some stars forever fall.

The due date is so soon! Here’s my inspirational thing.
Ethereal Detachment
The Ethereal Plane is the realm of the soul, and the Material is the realm of the physical, and the universe (and your physical body) would like it to remain that way. For each hour that a creature with a soul remains on the Ethereal Plane, that creature must make a Wisdom saving throw, the DC being equal to 10 + the number of hours that creature has been on the Ethereal Plane. On a failed save, that creature gains one level of spiritual detachment, as shown in the Spiritual Detachment. When they do, they must roll on the Spiritual Detachment Side Effects table, and gain the side effect rolled for the amount of time shown by their level of spiritual detachment on the Spiritual Detachment table. While a side effect is active, a creature needn’t make the save and the number of hours it has been in the Ethereal Plane stays at the number it was until the effect ends.

Ethereal Extractor
Rod, artifact (requires attunement)
This black obsidian rod can send bouts of energy out into the Ethereal Plane, withdrawing deposits of a magical substance known as Aetherium.
As an action, a creature attuned to the Ethereal Extractor can cause the rod to enlarge, becoming a 5-foot diameter, 20-foot long cylinder, or to shrink back down into a 5-inch diameter, 50-inch long rod. Small feet erupt from the side of the rod to stabilize it, and a dashboard with levers and buttons flips up to be used.
If the Ethereal Extractor would expand into a space occupied by a wall, creature, or similar obstruction, the action is not spent and the Ethereal Extractor is not enlarged.
As an action while the Ethereal Extractor is enlarged, a creature can press one of the buttons or pull the level on its control dash. The buttons and lever have the following effects:
When the beam is shut down, a 500 pound, 5-foot cube of Aetherium appears in an unoccupied square within 15 feet of the Ethereal Extractor.
The Ethereal Extractor shrinks into rod form after 10 minutes if it has not been used. The Ethereal Extractor can only be enlarged once per dawn.
Aetherium
Aetherium is an extremely light, metal-like substance found only in the Border Ethereal. It is commonly used for enchanting Airships or vehicles, as it is extremely hard despite its weight. Aetherium is roughly 1/4th of the weight of the same amount of aluminium.
There is one prominent problem with Aetherium: it degrades rapidly outside of the Ethereal Plane. Once Aetherium enters a plane other than the Ethereal, it explodes in a violent, shrapnel-filled array of blue sparks within 1d6 rounds unless the Aetherium is returned to the Ethereal Plane or heated to a temperature of 500 degrees Fahrenheit or more. Effects such as dragon fire or a forge can heat Aetherium up fast enough to prevent an explosion.
Should the Aetherium explode, each creature and object within 30 feet of the Aetherium must make a Dexterity saving throw (DC 20), taking 6d8 fire damage and 2d10 slashing damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one. Creatures within 31-60 feet of the Aetherium must also make this save against the effect, though they have advantage on the save.
Aetherium is extremely easy to alloy and use, and is worth 5 gp per cubic inch of material.

Why does it have a multiattack that only gives it one attack? It can already make one attack with the attack action, so allowing it to do the same thing (with a few restrictions because there’s a difference between making an attack and taking the attack action) is just redundant. Also, if it’s from the Feywild it should probably be a Fey. I do like it though, it’s just a bit odd.
This isn't actually a signature, just something I copy and paste onto the bottom of all my posts. Or is it? Yep, it is. Or is it..?
