Calm down people! It's a TV show. Whether or not you agree with the premise or creation method is important, but not so much so as it is worth losing friends over. Everybody in this thread likes and/or loves Tolkien. Do we have to drive a pitiful line between us over some content created by some mega-studio with mega-dollars? Of course not.
The TV show has its goods and its bads, for everyone. Who's to say though that one person's good or bad is prevalent over another's? Even if the TV series is the most sorely lacking, wasteful, tedious experience in Tolkien History, its a TV show, not the end of the world. Can we please be kind to one another? None of us mean to hurt each other, but if we keep our indiscrete ways of throwing shame and shade we shall all be lost.
Yeah, you’re right. I should make you a mod lol.
A minecraft mod with Tolkien monsters in it? Dear gods no. I would try to play it in hardcore and get squished flat.
First look at Celebrimbor, the elf who forged the Three Elven rings.
Since you're completely ignoring Yamana's awesome post and therefore disagreeing with it, and continuing to post stuff you know will just cause another fight, I'm not even gonna bother saying anything and let a very popular film critic and general all-round cool dude say it for me: https://youtu.be/9QJbAbe2yyo
Just watch that, it summarizes a fair amount of my say.
Actually you know what, I’m gonna do something I’ve never done before and straight up ban any discussion or posting of anything to do with RoP. It only leads to massive arguments, and I don’t see anyone except Pallghost liking any of the articles and stuff that’s being posted. We can all read articles, we all follow the news, there’s no need to post it on here.
I’m only doing this because of the clear message sent by Caerwyn by completely ignoring and actively going against Yamana’s awesome post that we all stop arguing about this by posting more RoP stuff we all know will simply spark another argument. As this whole thing was primarily between me and Caerwyn with occasional interjections from Yamana and Pallghost, I don’t see how it’s really contributing anything.
Tell me how “And maybe then you could have a real discussion on your thread for once - folks talking about what they want to see in the show, what they personally like or do not like about the aesthetics, etc. - instead of you going off on anyone who brings it up, simply because the hive mind told you to.” all you like. My decision is final.

I'm still confused as to what I supposedly posted, but I think you have a bunch of good points Lego.

You’re preaching to the choir lol, I don’t even remember what I had for lunch.
I am so confused. If you're meaning the message I think you're meaning, I thought it was off-topic and I was going to be getting a warning from the mods any moment now. Well I'm glad it helped!
Also, back on topic, what do you think of the Magic the Gathering: Lord of the Rings set that's coming next year?

Your most recent one lol. The one about all this arguing over a show we can’t control is pointless and it’s just not worth it. Also we go off topic so frequently on here I’m surprised the mods haven’t shut us down yet lol.

I'm definitely excited! I was a little apprehensive, but then they made forgotten realms and battle for Baulder's gate very well in my opinion, so I'm just really excited now. I wonder if it'll cause issues in some countries though, because lord of the rings is still under copyright under UK laws.

It’s still under copyright everywhere, but Hasbro acquired the rights to produce content based on the books (which is why Wizards has been very clear thus far that it’s a product based on the books themselves - they do not have rights to the film content or depictions; LotR copyright is a mess). There will not be any legal issues with the product - Hasbro has notoriously good copyright attorneys.
Personally, I’m torn on the set. I’ll end up buying all the precons and might buy the full set itself, but I am not overly thrilled with Universes Beyond as a concept - LotR at least feels like MTG, but all the other UB products decidedly have not.
It will be interesting to see what book-only concepts get adapted into the game. I am hopeful to see Bombadil and the barrow-wights, and figure they’ll throw a fair number of other references specifically designed to make book readers smile. The art should also be delightful - that spoiled so far has had a bright and colourful feel that really feels on brand for the franchise, and is a nice deviation from Magic’s tend toward realism.
I am also curious to see just how far Wizards/Hasbro’s license goes - Hasbro has been making noises about adding “Universe Beyond” like products to D&D, so it’s not inconceivable that a d20 system LotR product is on the horizon.
So…. LotR. What’s everyone think of WOTC potentially doing a LotR D&D system?
Love it!
Personally I am rather excited for the possibility - though I expect we are a few years or more off. Hasbro has indicated they would release products based on their own intellectual property first (GI Joe, Transformers, MLP all discussed as possibilities for d20 treatment), and, though the Magic set indicated Hasbro/Wizards can obtain the LotR book gaming rights, that doesn’t mean they have those rights presently for products beyond just Magic.
It will also be interesting to see if they use the D&D brand on such “Universes Beyond” products. I expect they will just be something like “MLP/Transformers/LotR Tabletop Game” rather than explicitly say they are D&D, since, unlike Magic where you need the existing product to function, they could (and likely will be intended to) operate independent of D&D rules.

Rn all three of those games (GI Joe, Transformers, My Little Pony) are put out as RPGs by Renegade Game Studios, who also make the fifth edition of Vampire: the Masquerade. I remember My Little Pony from when I was a kid, but I only know a little about GI Joe and next to nothing about Transformers except that they’re robots who change into cars.

Interesting - I had missed that and the last thing I had heard was an investor brief sometime last year indicating they wanted to release all of those through Wizards and the D&D system.
Though I suppose the change does not surprise me too much - Hasbro has been leaning on Wizards to develop a lot of its own products - including some new IP - recently. I suspect the fact that Hasbro’s current CEO is also a former leader at Wizards is playing a part in that decision to keep Wizards a bit autonomous from other Hasbro IP, allowing them to focus on their own content or more profitable third-party arrangements (like Magic’s Street Fighter/League of Legends/Walking Dead/Warhammer/LotR products).
