Welcome to the Wild's Edge Tavern, a tavern set on the road in the wilds between Southern Mirkwood and the Misty Mountains (before Lothlorien). Here, we roleplay and have fun, all in Middle Earth! This is similar to the Tales of Adventurers' Tavern, but in Middle Earth. Read the rules, introduce a character, and have fun! If you like the Lord of the Rings/The Hobbit/Tolkien in general and want to just talk about it, check out the Lord of the Rings/The Hobbit/Anything Tolkien Club! This is set in the Third Age, shortly before the events of the Hobbit (but after Smaug has taken the Lonely Mountain). Anyone can start and DM their own plot, though there is a maximum of three plots in the tavern at once. Link to the LotR club Discord: https://discord.gg/g7HpHmGj
The tavern was built by an elf, dwarf, hobbit, and a human during the Long Winter of the year 2758 of the Third Age. They created it to be a place where all four races could feel welcome. The main room is divided into three sections. The main section is for the humans, and is a standard tavern affair. The hobbit area is next to the humans, with lots of comfy armchairs, pipe racks, and all the bits and bobs that make a place feel like home for a hobbit. A short flight of stairs leads down into a lower section of the room, for the dwarves. The tables, bar and chairs are smaller and made of stone, and there is a big fireplace on the southern wall. Above all this is a large open balcony for the elves, with furniture made from uncarved branches, living trees rising out of the floor (magic), and lamps hanging from the ceiling, emitting a pale, distant light like the stars. In the center of all of these, there is a big neutral space where everyone can mingle. Each area also has a staircase (just a door for the elves) that leads up to corresponding bedrooms for each race on the second floor. There is a bartender of corresponding race for each section, who is played by a moderator.
We are using composite lore for this, which means both the movies and books count as Middle Earth canon (Since the events of both haven't occurred yet, I doubt there will be any problems).
The Elven bartender is Megilhir, a half Noldor, half Sindar elf who was a member of Earendil's crew, fought in the War of Wrath and was present at the defeat of Morgoth. He slew several of the great winged dragons that emerged from the gates of Angband to battle the Valar in the War of Wrath. He went to Valinor after Morgoth's defeat, but returned to Middle Earth alongside the Istari to aid Galadriel, the keeper of Nenya, in her fight against Sauron. He infrequently leaves the tavern to aid the White Council in their endeavors. He is a member of the White Council, and is related to Thranduil, king of the elves of Mirkwood and Galadriel, Lady of Lorien. Is played by legolasgreenleaf333.
The Dwarven bartender is Vestri, a Blacklocks dwarf from the Orocarni. He decided to travel west to see the veterans of the war of the dwarves and orcs, and see West of West (Valinor), the home of Mahal (Aule) the creator of the dwarves. He got as far as Rhovanion before breaking his left leg. Found the tavern, and took over from the old dwarf bartender. Is played by pallghost.
The human bartender is Drake Athaër, a large gruff human male. A former rider of Rohan, he wears large battle armor and hates dwarves. He broke his shin and could no longer be a rider so he searched for work. The slightly mad human bartender hired him but a year later the bartender went mad after thinking of the necromancer so often. He went seeking the necromancer himself, only to be slain by goblins. Drake then became the human bartender, and still is. He admires elves and would love to serve one a beer one day. Is played by Gradiusguy1245
The hobbit bartender is Halfast Bracegirdle Took, a descendant of one of Gerontius Took and Adamanta Chubb's children. Beyond having an old sword and liking to tell stories, he's not that interesting. Is played by Halfastbracegirdle.
RULES:
1. Only Middle Earth races and subraces are permitted; Dwarves (mountain, hill), Elves (wood, high), Halflings Hobbits (lightfoot, stout), Humans.
2. Permitted (Middle Earth) Classes: Barbarian, Fighter, Ranger, Rogue. Only Elves can play Druids, Sorcerers, and Wizards. (Monks are very rare, and in fact do not seem to come up in Tolkien canon. However, it is possible that some individuals might master unarmed fighting. Way of the Open Hand monks only, please. Element-bending does not existing in Middle Earth.)
3. Your character MUST be a Middle Earth character (their backstory, place of origin, etc must be Middle Earth).
4. You can't playing existing (canon) Middle Earth characters (i.e Bilbo, Thorin, etc), though you can play little-known characters that have no real story relevance (such as Hilifons Took, Bilbo's uncle who was sent on a adventure by Gandalf and never returned).
5. No non-Middle Earth homebrew.
6. Maximum level is 11 (Middle Earth has a low power level)
7. If you want to run an encounter, PM me (legolasgreenleaf333) the details and I'll let you know if it works.
8. You can't kill a character without the player of said character's consent (I'll think up a plausible in-game reason for this if it comes up. Random Gandalf Intervention sounds good).
9. You can only have three characters active/involved in the tavern at once.
10. You can do things that would affect future Tolkien canon (i.e reclaim the Lonely Mountain, destroy Dol Guldur, etc), but you have to PM me (legolasgreenleaf333) for permission.
11. Anyone can write and DM their own plot to do with the tavern, though there is a maximum of three plots at once.
Current Plots/Encounters: The Angmar plot (is currently only in beginning stages). DMed by Yamana_Eajii, with contributions from pallghost and legolasgreenleaf333. The Battle of Helm's Deep recreation (is just an isolated encounter, not a plot). Currently getting players, should begin soon. DMed by Gradiusguy1245. If you want to join, just shout it out and a mod will add you to the PM.
Use asterisks for OOC, italics for telepathy (which is typically only possessed by elf lords or Istari) and have fun!
Halfast Took, a hobbit who appears to be in his fifties, is smoking a pipe and cleaning glasses.
An exotically dressed human comes it. He looks like he has seen better days, and his armor and clothing would probably look noble, if they were clean. They go over to the bar and order some water

"Welcome to the Wild's Edge! And watch the ceiling. Most of the tall folk don't visit my corner of this place. What's your name?" He smiles.
Megilhir is sitting behind the bar, looking mysterious and elfy *Best intro I can think of, LOL*
Vestri walks over
"What are you thinking about this time?"
“I recently met with Gandalf the Grey. He has suspicions about the Necromancer in the south of Mirkwood. Living so close to Dol Guldur is risky. It is no wonder we have not seen many customers these past years.”

Outside the tavern, a rather disheveled, beaten, and to be honest just plain lichen-covered and ugly human in torn green robes sits, hands cupped, as if to ask for money for food. It would take anyone a fair time to notice the Gondor heraldry on their leather armour, or the scars under her left eye, or the fact that she's alive at all. She looks like the earth has gasped up a corpse, and she murmurs to herself in a strange language and accent that men might recognize as half-orcish, half-numenorian.
*I can only stay on a tad, and while my character is strange, they fit the rules. They're like a beaten up ranger, who's been through Radagast's neck of the woods.*
