FotR. TT is great but has to many bad bits (Eowyn's actress really sucks at her role, elves at Helm's Deep is nope), and same with RotK.
Yeah. I mean, they're all great but many aspects of RotK loose their subtlety. TT and FotR are pretty close in my mind, but I haven't seen either in a while. Between the books my favourite would probably be RotK, but it's been years since I read any of them.

I also don’t like how Aragorn and Gandalf’s roles are swapped in RotK. Gandalf is often despairing and worried about the quest while Aragorn is the one who encourages everyone and makes all the big decisions. In the books it’s vice versa, and the change just doesn’t make any sense even in the movies. The scene where they’re planning the attack on the Black Gate features a bit of Gandalf and Aragorn talking and all the lines are verbatim from the book. Except Aragorn is saying Gandalf’s lines and Gandalf is saying Aragorn’s.

New(ish) Tolkien work set for release November 10, 2022. Rather than being an edited version of an unfinished manuscript (like the Silmarillion and all other posthumous Tolkien novels), The Fall of NĂşmenor is a collection of J.R.R. Tolkien's existing writings on the Second Age, compiled by Tolkien scholar Brian Sibley (who adapted LotR for the BBC radio show and did work with Jackson on the LotR films, among other writings on Tolkien) with some guidance from Christopher Tolkien prior to Christopher's death. The book is going to tell the story of the Second Age chronologically and in a single volume for the first time, with Sibley providing scholarly commentary and introductions on the chosen exerts.
In addition to collecting the diaspora of Second Age information into a single volume and adding new scholarly commentary, the work is going to feature eleven new paintings by the illustrious Tolkien illustrator Alan Lee (ten inside the novel and the cover image), as well as dozens of Lee's pencil sketches.
Should be an interesting read, even if none of J.R.R. Tolkien's material is new--the illustrations alone are probably worth the cost of the collection and new scholarly insights into the Legendarium--especially from such a respected source--are always a delight.

Having shattered all our previous records of being slow, I figure we need a boost in some way. Ideas are welcome.
