An extremely mediocre show Amazon created that basically was all bad exposition and a fair bit of wooden acting. It also cast minorities, which caused some people to revile the show as “not Tolkien’s vision” long, long before the show was released. It was kind of sad to watch - the Tolkien family was actively trying to say how much they thought the show was in-line with Tolkien’s vision and writing - but racist YouTubers and their racist and/or foolish viewers who denied the fact racist review bombing existed decided to trust racism more than Tolkien’s kin.
Now, once the show was released, it turns out Tolkien’s writing gene did not really get passed down, and his descendants’ opinions did not really match the poorly-paced reality of the final product. But that is a real observation based on real evidence - not the wild speculation based on racism (either their own, or their failure to get their sources) which infected some people before the show dropped. And, of course, even after the show, you would still see some folks raising legitimate complaints… but also being weirdly specific in calling out a black actor for not “looking the part” (while not making similar comments about any of the white actors).
All told, it was/is a mess for reasons other than racism - and has become yet another cornerstone of the racist belief that race-swapping is the problem, not bad writing. Tolkien would have hated that a show based on his works (which, plot differences aside, I think he would have been curious to see) became such a rallying cry for the people he detested most.
Beyond that explanation of what the show is, I do not think it needs anymore discussion. It has a nasty habit of triggering some people, for whatever reason.
honestly, I will say, and I'm not racist trust me, but it would have been a bit cooler if different regions had different skin tones, cause honestly it just adds a layer of it being more realistic but on a more important note, Galadriel was super dumb. Galadriel wouldn't have been so stupid and stubborn and have made some really stupid decisions and like leave one of the elves behind. it was so stupid how she acted. plus in the beginning scenes, kids were being mean to her, whereas in Valinor in the beginning, there was no sin basically. it was paradise. the entire show is just trash tbh

Yeah, it’s clear that cause cars don’t exist it’s physically impossible that so many far different cultures could have even met and mingled to the degree the show shows, they should have had each part of the world have different skin tones cause THATS HOW IT WORKS IN MEDIEVAL TIMES but that would require a basic human intelligence and/or giving the slightest of shits, neither of which the showrunners have clearly.
The Valinor thing: Also yeah that’s just an example of how the writers clearly only read the Wikipedia summary of the Silmarillion and forgot about 2 thirds of it.

The more you look, the more obvious it becomes how little the showrunners care and how completely inept they are. They kept Ar-Pharazon’s name the same for ****’s sake: the AR parts means KING you complete morons AND HE’S NOT THE KING IN YOUR SHITTY “ADAPTATION” SO HE SHOULDNT BE NAMED KING forget the language, they didn’t even bother to learn the names I give up completely

Um. This is wrong. They only call him Pharazôn in the actual show’s dialogue. There are enough real issues with the show that you don’t really need to go making up new ones.
I liked it... But the original books are better, and Galadriel was a stubborn idiot.

Which, of course, is perfectly fine! I have my issues with the show - but there were also elements I rather liked. For me, I found the negatives outweighed the positives, but I would never begrudge someone for coming to a different conclusion.
After all, I do not think Tolkien would be super fond of people telling others their opinions were wrong!

My bad, in my defence they still called him Ar-Pharazon in at least a few interviews/articles and my brain has erased half the show in an effort to keep me from losing what little sanity I do have.
Let’s talk about something that’s not RoP cause I don’t want this to devolve into debates we’ve already had about a hundred times already. How about War of the Rohirrim, any thoughts on it?

I think there is a fair bit of reason to be skeptical about it. The writing team’s collective resume could best be described as sparse. Warner Bros fast tracked its development, which can often mean cut corners. It is the studio’s first experiment with hand drawn animation, which often results in a messy final appearance. There are some good signs - Miranda Otto reprising her role as Éowyn to narrate will bring her gravitas to the project, and Brian Cox, who is cast as the lead, is having a well-deserved moment in the spotlight presently.
All that said, most of the reasons I am skeptical stem from the fairly untested elements behind the project. There is no real evidence of competence; but also no real evidence of incompetence from these untested folks. Just being new does not mean you do not know what you are doing - it just means you have not had a chance to show your skill in either direction. So, while I have some skepticism and will not ne approaching this with optimism, I will reserve final judgment until it actually comes out. After all, writing off something before anyone has even seen it would be pretty silly.
I’m in the skeptical team too, it feels like a kind of experiment by WB. It could be good, but it also might not be. I am confident that unless it’s amazing, most people will never hear of it and it’ll just be this little oddity that super fans know of.

WB has finally announced the new LotR movies! Peter Jackson, Philippa Boyens, and Fran Walsh (if you don’t know who they are I can’t help you) will be making them so we can guarantee they will be at least Hobbut quality (and hopefully better) and after RoP those movies are actually looking better then ever. The first movie is gonna be the Hunt for Gollum, directed by Andy Serkis (who will presumably be reprising his iconic role). The PJ movies will presumably follow them.
Personally I’m super excited cause with PJ you’re guaranteed a stacked cast, amazing CGI and visuals, and (if WB don’t interfere and force changes like they did in the Hobbit) and a great story. Not to mention, these are the ACTUAL LotR franchise, so everything will be as we all know and love in terms of production. So at least the elves will look like elves and not 60 year old grandpas with shit haircuts, even if the movies suck.
Look, the Rings of Power season 2 trailer just dropped! I’m gonna try to be optimistic for once so here goes.
The good: Look, in all seriousness, at least they’re following the basic outline of the lore now. Like, Sauron becoming Annatar and Numenor getting taken over by Ar-Pharazon and saying **** the Valar are things that actually happened. I’m sure the acting will still be shit, the writing will be dumb as **** and all the details will be changed virtually beyond recognition but at least they’re following the basic events of the 2nd Age!
The bad: Lmao Sauron just changed his haircut and that’s enough for everyone to not recognize him apparently. The actor they hired to play Annatar was so bad they fired him so apparently they just threw a wig on Halbrand and said **** it.
