There’s one detail that might have been the first one that I ever noticed in Tolkien’s work. It was that the first chapter of The Hobbit is an unexpected party. And the first chapter of Lord of The Rings is a long expected party. I don’t know why I loved this so much. But it made me feel like Tolkien loved his work more than ever before. Thoughts on small, heart warming details like this?

That’s a great point!
Building on this, I also always appreciated the symmetry between Many Meetings, the first chapter of the second book in Fellowship, and Many Partings, the fourth to last chapter in the second book of Return of the King. Both chapters revolve around old friends in Rivendell, one where they are being reunited, one where they are parting after their long journeys.
Random information related to Tolkien: Faramir and Denethor both hear Boromir's horn about three hours after it is actually blown. Also, if the horn were nonmagical and the sound was actually loud enough for them to hear 220ish miles away, the sound would be loud enough to cause the lungs and ears of anyone nearby to rupture. Instead, though, Sam and Frodo can't here it from the river, so it probably wasn't very loud.

I respect science, but dear gods lower the gore!
Or maybe physics works differently in Middle-earth? Such as that a sound can be soft enough to not be heard from a nearby river but at the same time loud enough to be heard 220 miles away. Like one of those Zen puzzles (“What is the sound of one hand clapping?”).
Ahoy this is Gradius on JD's computer. if you need proof then that is what you will get. Anyway, does anybody else think Thorin should have walked away in the movies? he just stood there while azog floated under him, he's a little stupid. LotR LotR LotR LotR

Slow… Can anyone think of a Silmarillion hero with a happy ending? Elrond and Elros came in too late to count.
I’m stuck, but that may be just cause I’m tired so my brain isn’t working properly.
