"I... I lost it. I didn't get a choice." Astara looks down.
"Now, now..." Savathun gently places a single finger on Astara's chin and lifts her head up so they can make eye contact. It's subtle and gentle, and her motherly tone only adds to her comforting presence- which is ironic considering Savathun's frightful appearance. "Do not hope for something better, Astara. Hope will not get you anywhere. Hope has never gotten me anywhere. I put my faith in my power and my power can always be increased. You are weaker now. Mortal, evy sen. But you have potential to move worlds as I do. It is what you do with that potential. Power must be earned. Not given."
"I don't need power. That isn't what I cared about. If I could get it back, I would, but... that's not what I want."
"Hm, everything needs some sort of means to survive. Existence is the constant struggle to exist. But, you're ideals intrigue me. What do you want?"
"To belong. To have a purpose. And don't say surviving is a purpose. It's not."
Savathun pauses for a moment or two to think, deeply, about those simple statements. It made her heart wench and stir as she pondered about her own worm, the Sword Logic, and how much of a curse it was a blessing. However, Savathun could not argue with the Logic. She was given her worm when her religion is to earn everything. So, she is bound to continually prove she deserves to exist by taking the lives of others and growing in power as the worm feeds upon her tribute. There had to be a way to avoid being consumed by the source of her own power while still maintaining it...but how? And most importantly, how was she going to keep these means secreted away from her own gods.
"I'd beg to differ. You survive for what? To be comfortable? To be loved? You dare to live every day so you can survive to experience the next. Do not be clouded by the false hope of comfort." She didn't mean to sound snappy, but her mind was whirling faster than a black hole spins on it's infinite axis. "I'm...sorry, Astara. But there's something I need to figure out." Savathun looks down, ashamed and disappointed.
"And what do you need to figure out? How to feel emotions?"
"Ouch." Savathun chuckles again, her mood lifting a bit. "If I tell you, will you listen? And I mean really listen?"
Astara thinks for a moment. "I'll try."
Savathun bows her head gratefully and then outstretches her hand. As soon as her palm faces upward, a writhing pale worm the size of a small dog appears in her clutches.
"This was a gift for my people. It made us immortal. It gave us power if we fed it. But it came at a cost...We had to continue to indulge into our desires. I had to continue to be cunning and use my cunning like a literal serrated knife to obliterate my enemies. If I stopped, then my worm would eat my soul and I would cease to exist. I have to kill to feed the worm, which feeds my power, which increases my worm's hunger for more death. Even if I wanted to stop killing, I couldn't. Or I would be doomed to be destroyed forever. I have to live on. For my siblings. For my people. Without me...I'm afraid we would never find a true and final shape."
Her gaze on the worm was mixed with immense sorrow and yet a deep wonder. "I love my siblings so dearly. And the feeling is mutual. We war with each other to sharpen ourselves so we may feed our worms without the risk of death. We must prove, constantly, that we deserve to continue on by proving that others deserve to die. My brother created a tithe so that everyone gets enough tribute to feed their worms...but...I noticed that if we did end up killing everything, then how would we feed our worms? Well, we would just continue to sharpen ourselves by killing each other, for when either of us die, we simply assimilate inside our Ascendant Realm until we are strong enough to return to continue fighting and killing."
"That is our goal, Astara. To kill everything until there is nothing left to kill, or die trying. Either way, it proves the Sword Logic. Tragic, isn't it?" Savathun's gaze shifts back over to Astara. Read in between the lines. I cannot risk telling you my true intentions without specific entities intervening. I know how clever you are. You remind me of a younger version of myself.

"We were young and naïve." Savathun states simply. "We were tired of falling prey to everything on Fundament, so relished at the opportunity to become the apex predators of the universe. You see, our gods told us that we do not need to dominate every creature we come across, though it is preferable that we do, but we are able to outmatch everything else by sheer will power. If we have gathered enough paracausal energy for our worms- more so that we would eclipse entire civilizations with our might -then that would be our Final Shape. A paradise where we rule the weak. It's establishing that much paracausal energy and sustaining it that's troubling me. We need to feed our worms. Somehow, our worms are supposedly going to stop wanting tribute...but I am already one hundred and two and my worm is still hungry."

Savathun looks down, ashamed and disappointed.
"That's terrible. How... how could you do that?"
"They won't ever be satisfied, will they?"
Savathun stays silent and refuses to react in anyway.
Then, after a long pause, she speaks again, "I am planning on tampering with time. Maybe if I slow time down, the worms will think that any small tribute made- small enough as ripping a tree apart or destroying a rock -is big enough to feed it and sustain it. This way I can...continue to...investigate, yes investigate! That's the word..."

Something...colorful tugs at the back of Eris' mind.
Come and see...
Can't, sorry.
The bright thoughts leave Eris alone. Instead, they tug on the Elf's mind.
Come and see...
See what?
There's a brief vision of a stark white moon of sorts, then disappears.
Come...and see...
Y'know, you're sounding more suspicious than helpful right now.
I am not the enemy. Come, and I promise no harm will be brought unto you. See what I have to offer, then you may part and I will hold no grudge over your decision.
How the hells am I even so supposed to come if I don't know where to go?
"I... Dont understand why a name would hurt them..."
"It wouldn't hurt them. But if other people heard it, and they knew my family..."
".... Then what?"
"I would bring shame to my family. Again."
"Again? How did you do it the first time?"
"Not once. I... I always mess up. Do something wrong. They always act like it's fine, but I know they're disappointed."
".... Are you disappointed before they are?"
"What do you mean?"
"I mean... Does it matter if theyre disappointed, as long as you werent disappointed first? And failure is a good thing... Failure is improvement and getting better"
"It's not just me failing. Everyone knows about it. Our family has a long history, and when I mess up, everyone knows..."
"So? They know you improve, because thats all failing ever does. Why do they all care so much?'
"I don't know if you'll understand this, but we're a noble family. We have more power and wealth than most people, and we're responsible for ensuring that the ordinary citizens are happy and safe. I'm the heir to that legacy, and I'm nothing but a failure."
"..... Youre right... I dont really understand.... How exactly do you fail?"
"I mess up. I say the wrong thing, or trip over my dress, or spill my drink."
".... Thats all so minor... Its just clumsiness, not like it hurts anyone... Well, except tripping.. That may hurt you a bit.."
