Ceris clocks Chase, and raises an eyebrow at the minor that probably shouldn't be in a tavern unsupervised.

Chase glances over at him. "Is something wrong?"

He shrugs. "Probably not. Just not used to seeing kids alone in places like... well, this," he says, gesturing vaguely at the tavern.

"It's not like I'm drinking or anything, if that's what you're worried about. I really just don't have anywhere else to go."

He visibly relaxes, then gets stressed again. "Oh good... wait, what? Do you not have guardians, or even friends that you could live with?"

"Nope. Not really."

"Oh. Sorry, that's... quite unfortunate. What brought you here, rather than somewhere a bit safer?"

He shrugs. "Luck. As soon as I could get off the streets, I did."

"I suppose that's fair. Do you have a job in the area, or- sorry, I'm being weird. Let's start over." He holds out his hand. "Ceris Davet. I spent some time on the streets myself, so I'm always a little worried when I spot a kid alone."

Chase shakes his hand, a little warily. "I'm Chase."

"Pleasure to meet you, Chase." He casually flicks his hand, and his outfit subtly alters itself to look a little nicer- less wrinkly, a bit cleaner, and the shirt gets tucked in.

"Magic?"

He smiles slightly. "Good eye. A bit, yes. Nothing major, though."

"I've always been perceptive. I had to be."

He nods his head. "That makes sense. Gotta use everything available to you, no?"

"If I didn't, I would probably be dead."

"Fair. Always on edge, if I were to guess. Gods know I never got to take a break."

Chase almost laughs. "I don't think I really ever slept until I came here."

Ceris smiles easily. "Yeah... it took me almost a year before I finally entered REM."

Soldaer is sitting at the bar, drink his usual: Feywine.

Shade is walking throughout the crowd, enjoying the occasional pat on the head or scratch behind the ears.

(1. Can he sense unusual things?)

2. Avery grabs a mug, singing with a bunch of other people

Soldaer can feel something, unattural, outside the tavern towards the back

A chill goes down Soldaer's spine, but he seems more curious and cautious than anything. Shade, come with me. He says telepathically so as to not disturb the other patrons. Shade comes bounding over, and they exit the tavern to investigate.

Investigation/religion check

*alright. Investigation: 27*

Its eerily quiet, like all the life outside the tavern has been silenced. The only noises coming from anywhere other than back inside, is the sound of metal against metal behind the tavern

Soldaer looks over at Shade. Be ready for anything, he says, drawing his weapons, but keeping the light from his rapier off. He and Shade then walk cautiously around back behind the tavern.

If they try and go stealthly, make a stealth check. If not: They see someone attacking a metal creature with a warpick. They seem to be doing a basic training, but something seems off about them

*For stealth check, Soldaer cast Pass Without Trace using his innate magic, so an additional +10 to both of them. Stealth: 33 for Soldaer, and 36 for Shade.*

*Yep, that passes their max possible*

The person doesn't notice them as they continue beating the automaton

Soldaer and Shade approach the person cautiously, observing them for any signs of instability.

They seem like a normal human besides the unnatural purple glow coming from their eyes, which reflect in the robot's bronze carapace.

Soldaer finally breaks the silence. "You seem rather intent on beating the crap out of the automaton."
