It happened during a Halloween game (and in my game there's an event called "The Hollowing" where the twin moons eclipse and the veil between life and death is at it's weakest and this wreaks havoc with magical energy)... was a very fun session.
Now, however, the players are leery of drinking anything offered to them by strangers, if it's not in a tavern...
Just remembered I did in fact make some drugs for a previous campaign. Looks like I was trying to make one for every letter of the English alphabet. (Why did I make two for G? Who knows!) There are notes about pricing because it was relevant for the campaign at the time. Feel free to fill in the gaps.

If that campaign had grungs in it, you probably made two g's because of their presence.
Although that effect must have been from a previously unknown color of grung...

The spider girl is featured in several different anime, lol. As is usual with such things, she's either really sweet or insufferably evil, lol.
i think my favorite is the more "modern" tellings of her that tie them to the Courtesan Houses and their descendant Hanamichi -- she will be a refined and beautiful woman who will lure men by being available, and then once they are in the strange, out of the way place, they will never emerge again, but always they are said to "die with a smile".

I don't think there were any grungs. I don't know why there was grung venom.
My guess is because you thought it'd be funny if there were a frog drug that makes you hop.

I'd need to dig up my notes - but one of the Monks got a warning that was something like:
Drink from her venom And be bound forever, to her web of lies. One taste of the lips, where her venom drips Bound to the web, where your soul dies.
They'd got the warning a session or two before she actually appeared. And she appeared as a welcoming woman - because the Path of Enlightenment is this incredible endurance test where magic is negated. So she was one of the house along the way her offered Cherry Blossom tea (which was actually her venom which makes people susceptible to her suggestions - essentially the Command spell). The Bard in the group drank the tea and failed her Con save - and found herself attacking the party when the others refused to drink the tea.
The party defeated the Jorogumo Yokai, and after a long (restless night) in the Jorogumo Yokai's home (their nightmares were fueled endlessly of spiders bursting out of their chest, so they did not get the benefits of an actual long rest and had to expend hit dice) - the bard recovered and the party continued up the Path of Enlightenment.
In my game (which has two monks - a first in my time DMing! Never had anyone play a monk - then two players each decide to do Monks!) So that's had me looking at lore ...

My dad played against a monster that may have been based off this back in college. He was a thief who was investigating disappearances and murders and whatever and the party had split up, leaving him with the goofy horrific disguised NPC spider-lady. Needles to say, that character went gonesies.
He just reviewed the wiki page and not everything matches up, but my guess is that the DM from ages ago was at least inspired by this. And honestly... I now wanna sneak a Jorogumo into something I run.

You should do it. There's some incredible images to pull from in Google Images.
QotD: For the Dungeon Masters - have there been specific monsters you've created that come from existing legends and lore? For the players - are there monsters you and your party encountered that were monsters the DM made? What were they (both DM and players!)?
What non-fantasy genre inspirations have you used in creating your Characters / Adventures / Worlds?

The Maltese Falcon, by Dashiell Hammet, also makes for an absolute banger of an adventure.

For the drug thing, catnip is very addictive to Tabaxi. I had an adventure planned based around a Tabaxi bar that dealt catnip illegally.
My dad played against a monster that may have been based off this back in college. He was a thief who was investigating disappearances and murders and whatever and the party had split up, leaving him with the goofy horrific disguised NPC spider-lady. Needles to say, that character went gonesies.

BoringBard's long and tedious posts somehow manage to enrapture audiences. How? Because he used Charm Person, the #1 bard spell!
