They’re a level 1 wizard and fighter. I don’t exactly know how dangerous I want it to be, for I merely wish to know how difficult it is. It’s located in a forest where the goblins surprise attack the players.
Surprise attack is going to turn it against the heroes.
Are you DMing Lost Mines of Phandalen?
Yeah
Yeah - you're going to have to modify that whole encounter and all the encounters therein.
Ok. More work for me. Yayyyy….
Yeah because...
there's a whole cave full of goblins... there's a bugbear who has a wolf who has advantage when a companion is within 5 feet - which would be the bugbear... there's the brigands...
Definitely would be beyond lethal. Either that or start them at Level 3, to give them a better chance. An edge over a lot of the fights - but the numbers will be against them.
That’s a good solution. Either that or give them each a sidekick.
If I'm remembering right, they're motivated to waste as little time as possible because there's a captive somewhere in the caves. So they're not going to be able to pick through with extreme caution, luring out one guy at a time or whatever. So, yeah, rebalancing is recommended here. I'm sure there's a good rule of thumb for scaling down 1st level encounters for a half-sized party. But I have no idea what it is.
Question: Y'all going to see the D&D movie? Are you going with your D&D group? And do you know how to get the special d20 popcorn bucket and/or the mug? I am, I can't wait, and if you find out, please tell me because I want them lol.
I'll be going to the movie. I almost did the Amazon preview promotion last weekend, but by the time I confirmed who wanted to go, it was one of those theaters where you had to pre-select seats and the only way my party could be accommodated would have been the third row or closer, and we're back of house folks. The movie theater I usually go to is cheaper than the bigger chain multiplexes anyway, and better popcorn and soda options. So I'll be catching it Friday night with my daughters and maybe some of my regular party members.
Oh, if you're at all connected with your FLGS, check their social media, apparently there's another preview this Saturday, the 25th, and my FLGS is giving away 6 pairs of tickets, though you have to @the store over Facebook or Instagram, so not my bag this time around. Other stores may have different rules.

I am very interested in seeing it, and rather pissy that I missed out on the Prime preview, but as I deeply dislike the theaters in my area, I shall be skipping it as I have all but exactly two movies in the last five years. I drove to Phoenix for Black Panther and Wonder Woman, lol
also, I spend a fortune on streaming apps, so imma waiting on that.

Question of the Day: Dungeons or Dragons? Choose one and tell us why.
With the right magic and construction anything can be a dungeon… So that dragon that eats a party member could be hiding a portal to a demiplane in its mouth, thus, dungeons in dragons. So tell me, is this in favor of dungeons or dragons?
Question of the Day: Dungeons or Dragons? Choose one and tell us why.
Dungeon. Dragons usually have to try a lot harder to get people to go into their stomach, whereas dungeons don't even have to ask.

Dungeons.
Dragons are just one monster, and Dungeons can have lots of cool baddies and some puzzles. Besides, DrakenBrine is right that you can put Tiamat and 300 Ancient Dragons a couple of these creatures inside dungeons.

I would rather be a dragon than a dungeon because (normally) dungeons aren't alive.
I'd rather be a dragon than a keep Yes I would If I only could I surely would

A dungeon that is a dragon, or vice versa.... It'd be a fantastic voyage :)
My friend wrote a one-shot like this. We started off fighting a mechanical dragon, and when we got swallowed, we had to work our way through the dungeon of its architecture to get out. So innovative.
That’s a good solution. Either that or give them each a sidekick.

I want to see it but so tempted to wait until it shows up on Netflix or something or buy it. Movies are $$$ at the theatre.

Looks like what you want is AMC theaters:

As for going to see it - unfortunately, my wife has a health condition that makes going out to large social areas, a risk to her health.
So I will probably be waiting until it comes to a streaming service.
