Val and the man carry the wildebeest back to the camp- which only takes about 10 minutes to do. Val's camp is fairly simple, as the less heavy stuff their tribe has to carry while travelling, the better: A plain fire pit, reduced to charcoal, in the center, surrounded by natural rock piles where some items are placed to keep them away from the insects. Resting up on the largest pile- which isn't very tall, but rather very wide- is an assortment of what us modern humans would compare to sleeping bags made of animal hide: Meant to provide the warmth, if not the safety, of resting in a cave.
One of the first things that the man notices is how small Val's camp is. There are some other people doing various tasks such as tying stone tools to sticks or finding firewood, but there's only about half as many people as there would be in, say, Hirla's camp.

Char has been collecting lots of wood and other materials that can be stored for the White Times, and has also been working on food preservation, trying out different tactics through trial and error and from watching the various neighboring tribes and people on what are the best methods while they can afford to risking ruining some food on the tests conducted. He writes down all the knowledge he gathers from these tests on his stone keeper collection, having taken up the sire name Stone-Keeper now. It's a self given name but he thinks it's appropriate for his job in the tribe.
He has also taken it upon himself to try out different berries, minerals, and other items to perfect Hirla's paints for her projects, keeping stone notes on what materials makes what shades of colors.
When he is not in the caves doing that, he is out hunting and spending time with the dinosaurs the tribe has collected. He is a busy body.
