Thoruk is noticeably becoming very wary of, well, everyone. He still has the Dequackenator drawn, and starts rooting around in his small bag on his hip. Eventually he pulls out what clealy seems to be a small cardboard box covered in macaroni and painted in purple and gold, with some sort of mouthpiece sticking out of it.
He thrusts it at the Siren and says "Blow into this."
The device is a Duck Detector (Thoruk made it himself). It is an empty bag of holding with a duck whistle stuck into it - blow into the duck whistle, and if the noise echoes then you're not a duck. Ducks quacks don't echo!
Is the Dequackenator magic? If not, you notice that there are small bits of rust appearing on the blade... When you speak, nothing happens... not even an echo. The siren looks at the box, clearly confused. However, you did just pull her out of the water, so she takes it and blows on it...there is no echo, rather, there is a loud ear piercing screech. This frightens her into dropping the duck whistle, and she grabs her head as if in pain.
(hi everyone i forgot to go on for a while sorry) adran wakes up from the daze he has been in sins we were confused about the boats and the rust and shouts " i zone out for five seconds! what's going on!

"Well there is a Siren trying to kill us, and if you are in the flat area of the lake it will charm you every time you speak, Thoruk just pulled the siren out of the water and now it looks like an elf."
Oh right i don't think you can hear Kay right now, unless your boat isn't in the flat spot either.
Can Kay tell if there is anything unusual about this siren? She would probably know a bit about them.

Oh! Sorry, I missed that when I was getting caught up.
You would know stories of sirens leaving the water and taking the form of fair maidens to lure sailors to their deaths. Most of the stories you know only involve the siren (avian or aquatic) using a luring song to draw in their prey without needing to hide their true forms. You know that sirens usually do not attack alone, yet this siren seems to be the only one inhabiting these waters. In addition, sirens usually congregate in an area that poses a threat to boats, such as large rocks protruding from the water, which they try to convince sailors to run into. You have never heard of strangely flat water, or a place that threatens to charm anyone who breaks the silence. You also find it odd that the siren has not attacked anyone in the boat yet, and she allowed herself to be pulled out of the water where she is strongest. Of course, this could be because she was caught by surprise, and now that she is in the boat, she could be waiting for the opportune time to leap back into the water and resume her attack.

Yeah, Adran cannot hear you. Though, if he is looking at you he will easily be able to tell that you are trying to talk to him, and you are close enough that he should be able to hear you.
Also, the red boat is nearing the edge of the flat zone.

The Dequackenator was magic, though I never learnt its full potential (sob story coming up). My first DM gave it to Thoruk, and said it did extra damage against dragons, but that there was more which I would "Find out in due course". Sadly, he passed away. His partner told me some time later that the sword was going t ocontain the soul of a Kobold, but that was all she knew.
Anyway, let's pick the tone back up!
Oh, so I make no noise at all? Or I don't echo?
Thoruk is confused by the Screech. He holds the box up to his hear and gives it a shake, and some macaroni falls off, which he picks back up and stuffs into his pocket. Then he picks up the oars again and starts rowing across the flat spot, giving the scary screech lady a suspicious look all the way. He is also very concerned that nothing is echoing - he feels almost naked without his usual checks for Ducks.
Can Kay tell if there is anything unusual about this siren? She would probably know a bit about them.

No worries.
Kay is very confused at this siren's strange behavior. (Was she able to hear the screeching or see the siren's reaction to it?)

Okay, no rust then.
You do make noise, just no echo. Poor word choice on my part, sorry.
When you put the oars back into the water, the water feels strangely thick, as if it doesn't want to be disturbed. It is't long before the oars get stuck. Looking down at the water, you realize that there are large pieces of kelp wrapping around your oars and threatening to drag them downwards. If you choose not to let go, give me a strength check. (There is another set of oars in the boat, since you are the only one rowing.)
The siren looks up at you with concern, her hands still covering her ears. She opens her mouth as if to speak, but stops herself. Then she looks down at the water, fear washing over her face.
Can Kay tell if there is anything unusual about this siren? She would probably know a bit about them.

Keep in mind I'm in the UK so my time zone's GMT.
Definitely not an undead.
Krogar has his head in his hands, praying to all the gods of the dwarves that he can be delivered from such idiocy as Thoruk.
I am an Arachpriest, Cat Cultist, Sauce Monk, Angel of Death, and First Spinjitzu Master.
I play Thirteen the necromancer elf, Timber the tabaxi child, and more at the tavern. Hope you like yams!
Oh yeah, don't forget to be kind and loving and stuff. Not on during weekends.
Angelino looks around confessed. He’s unsure whether talking is allowed now or if he’s still not supposed to… “can I talk now..?”
Oh, Thoruk has had some interactions with the Dwarven Pantheon - see This post in the "stupidest things you've ever done" thread!
Long story short, they probably sympathise with you a lot.

*Wel, it's an urban myth that ducks quacks don't echo. So, naturally, Thoruk uses it to detect those mythical beasts; Ducks!*

Kay will tie one end of her rope to the back of the green boat then try to toss the other end to the red boat.
Is there a door we are heading too? Where are we going?
I think there was a door on the opposite side of the lake.
Only spilt the party if you see something shiny.
