A Wolf and Kipo sort of dynamic in a fantasy world, but with a soldier and a princess from warring kingdoms. The soldier got captured and taken to the castle for questioning where the curious princess visited her, offering fruit and things for stories of the other kingdom. Then comes the day when the soldier's army plans to bring the castle down. The soldier insists they escape, but the princess only lets her out if she promises to be her personal knight. The princess knows all of the secret ins and outs of the palace, and they escape out of one that leads into a nearby abandoned guardhouse. They make it to the guardhouse just in time before the castle's walls are brought down and the castle collapses. Princess decides to make for the nearest city in disguise (she's enamored with the idea of adventure) and drags the soldier-now-knight with her.
Thoughts?

it looks cool, but is the princess not bothered by her whole life literally crashing around her when the castle collapses?

No she is. She's distraught, but had always seen something like this coming. See, there's a lot of lore for this world including how the decade-long war started, but essentially the queen of one of the kingdoms invited the other monarchs to a dinner or something, and she poisoned the wine. It was her intent to kill both her husband and the king of the other kingdom and his wife, but the other queen refused to drink, preferring to keep her wits about her. Both kings died, but the evil queen cursed the other: Her firstborn would see her kingdom fall before she even came of age. The princess has been preparing for something like this for a long time, at least mentally.

Random opinion, anyone else feel weird when fantasy books have like pictures as their covers not drawings? I mean I understand why world war book would have a picture on the front of it or anything historical, but it never fits fantasy books vibes or just looks ugly

Yeah a photo would seem off to me too. Much more used to artistic covers. Any examples you have in mind specifically?

Australian world maps are upside down, making Australia at the top. I'm dead serious.
1. My history has one of those
2. That’s the Attack on Titan world

If memory serves China also used to put South on top.
It also reminds me of a map I saw a missionary group using at a conference for college-age Catholics. It also used a different type of projection and part of the reason they had it was that idea of reframing things. Because not only was it "upside down" it also got the land area of Africa more accurately, showing just how big it actually is. (Something that gets missed in various projections.)
This idea is okay and feels like the foundation for a great story or even a D&D campaign. I love the dynamic between the soldier and the princess, especially with the mix of personal conflict and political intrigue. The princess's backstory adds a lot of depth, showing her resilience and adventurous spirit.
I'm curious about how their relationship would develop over time. Does the soldier remain bound by duty, or could real trust and friendship (or even more) grow between them? And how does the princess deal with the destruction of her kingdom while balancing her desire for adventure with the responsibility of rebuilding?
Okay idea
