“We live in a world where pain is normal. Accepted by everyone in life. But I? I do not. And if I must cause pain to make the feeling the rarest thing in the universe? Where the mere concept is only known to scholars? So be it.”
What villain vibes do y’all get from this?
It’s making me think of the ones who walk away from Omelas. It’s a short story about a utopian paradise, Omelas, which is kept the way it is, utterly perfect, via the suffering of a single child who does not deserve it. If they were ever freed from their prison in a rundown basement under a random building, the entire city would wither and rot within the hour.
Oh no. There’s a story kind of like that, can’t remember the name, but basically it’s a society where everything is controlled so much that there is no suffering nor creativity nor color cause they make everybody color blind. However they keep all the memories of the past in a single person. If that person ever leaves this society, those memories are spread to every single individual. Not as intense as what you described but reminded me of it.

I think it’s called the Giver?
I remember my brother read it.
Yes! I found it pretty interesting at the time I read it.
Yeah. The blood of Canadians is just mustard gas (Clear sarcasm. The rest was true tho)
Yeah. Everyday I find more reasons to fear people on this website. (jk)
Tho yeah Canadians are terrifying. My dad thinks it's cuz they were not allowed to leave at all ever so they wanted the war to be over as soon as it could be

That’s honestly fair. In a war time way.
Lmao Canada was my first guess too after that comment

Had a random thought. So it's a pretty common concept to have a court-like or overall judge process for what afterlife you go to when you die. But in real courts, you can plead insanity. Where would you go if you pled insanity for the underworld?

I’d assume Avernus or another chaotic plane. Unless we’re talking real world religions, then I’d say reincarnation.

I'm talking mythology/DnD stuff. Assuming that the place where good people go is the equivalent of "not guilty", then wouldn't Avernus be the equivalent of guilty? I can see a chaotic plane tho, wonder what you would have to do to get Mechanus.

I think Mechanus is like a perfectly monotonous life with very few good and bad actions. But circling back, maybe their soul is released into the Astral Sea.

Eh, I feel like Limbo/a chaos plane in general would make more sense.

Along the shore, the cloud waves break
twin suns sink behind the lake.
shadows lengthen
in Carcosa
strange is the night where black stars rise
and strange moons circle through the skies
But stranger still, is lost Carcosa
Songs that the Hyades shall sing
where flap the tatters of the king
shall die unheard in
lost Carcosa
Song of my soul, my voice is dead
Die Thou, unsung, as tears unshed
shall dry and die in
lost Carcosa
Disregard my previous statement. This makes even more sense.

Why thank you! I do think it makes quite a bit of sense to be sent to the endless, dead field of graves and trees that is Carcosa, wandering through until, as the suns set behind Lake Hali, you stumble upon your own grave.
then you are lost, forever, within the twisting, uncharted halls of Carcosa, a promised paradise that is but ruin and death.
fun, right?

I want to say Canada just because of all the memes about it.

Yep I'm Canadian. And the memes are accurate, there are a lot of Canadian war crimes. Just search up CAHWCA, and go on https://www.justice.gc.ca/eng/cj-jp/wc-cdg/inter.html?wbdisable=true. We have an anti [gp]ing war crime act.
