Also just ran my first test battle of some lv3s vs a CR 10. It went better for them than I expected.
That said I didn't run the dragon fully optimally either. (Went into land which let the barb go toe-to-toe with it.) But I also didn't run the PCs optimally either. (couple were not contributing for a couple turns due to positioning.) Though the PC rogues did get two crits which is a good boost at lv3.
And of course the breath weapon is a big "No." that can easily drop a PC from full health to 0 in an instant. I'll probably run another simulation or two to see if I need to adjust that down. But I was pleasantly surprised to see that what I already made can be handled. I was like, "Okay, dragon with lots of health and high damage. Are they screwed?" And the answer is no!
Coool!
