Interesting. I do wonder how your views will shift over time. Don't recall how I categorized things back in middle school, but know that as time goes on and you meet more people you start blurring the various lines more and more until categorizing doesn't make sense unless in in a specific matter.

Depends on your area. I went to both a private school and public schools. Both were good. But, to be fair, I remember taking a look at the top high school districts in my state and the one I went to was towards the top. So it was a positive experience in my case.
As for the food, mass-produced food is never going to be as good as home cooking. I remember in high school that they'd have orange chicken and fried rice bowls available sometimes. And when I saw the price had been reduced by a dollar from the previous year I was excited, only to really not like the recipe change they'd made. (Went from my favorite thing to get to my least favorite option.) They also had the cheap option where you could get ramen for a dollar. (Useful if you forgot your lunch or something and could get a quick loan from a friend.)
