You can pray to God in any tongue, no matter how ridiculous. He'll be listening. I personally always pray in Pig Latin. "Ymay Atherfay oowhay inay eavenhay..."
I will note though that respectful language is important when praying to the divine creator of the universe.
This is true. I wouldn't actually pray like that. What I'm saying is that if you are a 13 year old boy who thinks in words like "cap" and "rizz," those words are legitimate words of language and God isn't going to be insulted.
Also, while I give all my respect to God, I think the creator of blobfish and your intestines can take a joke.
Hoverboard as in one of those rolly things or a genuine hoverboard a la Back to the Future?
Since if it's the latter I need to get one! :D
A genuine hoverboard powered by prayer and holy water. They're pretty hard to come by.
Instead of motor noises you hear angelic singing.
Exactly.
No actually my pastor is an old nerd with sleeve tattoos. He is also one of the best DMs I know. (See, this is a Dnd discussion!)
Nice.
Also, since you reminded me of the whole "D&D is satanic" panic I'm remembering a video someone showed me once. (wish I knew the title so I could share it too) Basic premise is that it starts out with the "D&D will steal your children's souls! Let's go into the belly of the beast and show you what it's about."
That's then followed by having the nerdiest sounding guys going over a ridiculous scenario. DM: You're in the dungeon. It's dark and you can't see. Guy 1: I cast Magic Missile! DM: What? What are you even casting it at? Guy 1: I attack the darkness! Guy 2: I attack the darkness too!
And of course other things like the mother needing to come down to do laundry and things.
I've seen stuff like that. That's pretty funny. I know folks who still think Dnd is satanic which is ironic when they are big fans of Harry Potter.
The interesting thing is Utah is famous for how religious it is but has the most dnd players of any US state.
Have the Mormons ever been against D&D? Or were they fine it with?

I'm not sure. I'll have to ask my Mormon friends. However Mormons are pretty different from Christians.

And on the topic of Harry Potter, one of the interesting videos I've seen was a priest discussing the question of whether or not Harry was sinning by using magic. Was kind of interesting since he went into various things around the topic. (Plus it's fun to ask silly questions now and then.)
Short answer was "No. His magic is a gift from God. So it's fine."
Interesting. I would draw a completely different conclusion and say yes it would be a sin for him to practice magic, and I would still read the book with a clean conscience. God specifically prohibits us from using witchcraft and sorcery so anytime anyone practices it it would be a sin. However the author is not a real Christian or writing with a Christian worldview so I would still read the book with the idea in mind that this is fantasy magic, not real world magic.

If you're curious, the video is this one. (At least I think it is, the guy looks familiar as does a quick glance.)
He does address the the point you make. But also points out that with the rules being different in the Potterverse, witchcraft/sorcerery as practice by Harry Potter isn't dependent on recourse to demons. Hence the reason it's fine.

God has prohibited witchcraft many times in the bible, but this is because it is blasphemy and ignores the power of God, and also because it's worshipping the Devil, who is actively opposing God. Harry Potter wasn't sinning because of this, and magic was a real thing in that world making it the same as using other technology such as a phone. However, any spells used to attack is a sin.

That is a very good point. However, not all magic is done in worship to the devil and it is still sinful. It does require the influence of demons, but humans can be deceived into thinking they are doing something innocent or pure like white magic.

So are you saying magic isn't a thing in this world? I think your point is fair given that this is completely hypothetical, but I think that magic can be practiced in this world without the intention to worship the devil.
This is a very complicated debate and I don't think I really have the time to go down it because I'm researching Proboscis Monkeys at the same time for a college project.

Let me rephrase this. Not all magic is evil but the teachings of the bible state that it's sinful to claim superhuman power that isn't from the Lord. While the Lord is merciful and compassionate to all, he cannot allow disrespect because it interferes with the plan of salvation and our divine potential. All power comes from the lord, and claiming to have God's power without getting it from God is a sin.
However, not to offend anyone religious, but the Harry Potter Universe has no God, and magic has always been a thing of man there.

Do you believe this applies to the real world? I believe all magic is evil, especially in the real world. Are you saying that there is good magic that can be practiced, because I believe that is completely false.
I am simply saying that in the Bible, all divine power and miracles, which were thought of during that time as "magic", come from God. All divine power comes from the lord. The traditional fantasy idea of magic does not exist in the real world, but I testify that Priesthood power does exist on the earth today, and it comes from the Lord. All design demands a designer, and the traditional idea of magic is both designless and by definition opposes the laws of physics. There is still room for the powers of God, who created life (something that could never exist without him), and God, although understanding and compassionate to all, needs proper respect. It's sinful to claim "magic" power that isn't from God for this reason, especially because we are on this earth today to prove ourselves to him.

Haha, that priesthood power bit is very controversial actually. I do think miracles can still happen, minus the priesthood bit. I wouldn't ever call the miracles that God performs in the Bible magic and I think there was a clear distinction in the minds of the people back then as well. Magic is the forbidden practice of mystic crafts in direct offense to God, while God is the maker and controller of the universe, he is not bound by the same laws as we are. Magic is breaking a law, while God is not bound by the law so he cannot break it. A person with a driver's license doesn't have to have a licensed driver in the car with them unlike a kid with a learner's permit. If a kid with a learner's permit drives on their own they are breaking a law, but if someone with a license drives on their own they aren't breaking any laws. I probably over explained myself there.

I agree that I wouldn't call God's power "magic". I'm noting the fact that many mythologies have existed that do believe in magic at that time.
If you don't mind me asking, what religion do you associate with, if any? I'm a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. And feel free to ask question because people think a lot of strange things about what we believe lol.
